running a YELLOW light  If theres anyt cops here can you explain this to me? Also could you explain why it takes 3 cop cars to pull me over? Or even why when I went for my registration they thought I was going for a weapon!!!

here I'm venting just to let you all know... I was driving home (30 mins ago from 2nd shift work. its pitch black out at 11 PM theres no cars on the raod and I'm on a major highway 113. The light turned yellow, I'm 75 feet away (most likly) And I dont think I can stop in time so I gun it. Then all of a suden I see flashing lights. I get puled over. But there not getting out! Then 2 other cops show up 15 mins latter!!!! And now they all get out at once blinding me with there lights! Now granted I'm thinking wtf?:!?!? One asks me if I am armed, I say no, he asks for my lisence I give it to him. He asks for my titel, I say"hold on its betwen my seat" Which I thought it was. But my mother put it in my glove box. So then I reach for the glove box and as I open it up he yells stop! Tells me to get out of the car and put my hands on the hood. Then they searched my car! wtf... They found nothing and I got a warning for running a YELLOW light!

All that for a fing warning...

I just had to get that off my chest.. its been a long day.....

You know, when they ask to search your car, you can tell them no.

Anyways, thats total BS. Sorry to hear about THE MAN breathing down your neck. Sounds like they were bored as ****. I would have asked for their badge number and filed a complaint for pulling you over for something not illegal.

Maybe they were breaking in a rookie.

Let me guess. You've got deep tinted windows, a Boeing wing, and a **** pipe on some mid-90's import. I'll bet you had a ballcap on backwards too. If you talked to the cops, like you talk audio here, no wonder they 'contained' you for a bit.

I wonder how much the ticket WOULD have been? I'm guessing around $180? Sound familair? Karma. Plain and simple. You should have thanked them for protecting and serving, and wished them a nice night.

Shelby, you can tell them no, and then they can bring the dog out, and get probable cause (if it arises). If you don't have anything to hide, and haven't done anything wrong - deal with it, and let them do their job. It has NOTHING to do with 'the man'.

Where were you stopped? Do they ride single cop or double cop?
If single, they usually call for backup while they run you license plate.
Yellow light means slow down get ready to stop.
If you gun it,they can at their discretion give you a summons.
btw,i'm not a cop i'm an emt. I just work around them.

No, I drive a 99 dodge avenger ES, blue steal colored. No music/no hat/no aditude/even had my seatbelt on! I was properly dressed and sat up straight! Oh, no loud mufler... Edit: my windows have a factoryt tint 3% Defult that is in the glass. And yea I have a wing, also from the factory that blends nicly into the car...

There was 2 in each car. all of them got out. And I was extreamly nervuse... Even tho I guned it to get threw the light in time I wasnt SPEEDing. So what gives? I was simply making shure I got threw in time. He asked me how long I have been driving and I told him 6 months. He said that wasnt long enough for me to jude red light timings... And here I thought I did all right!

It was too late for me to stop, and if I didnt pick up speed I would of ran a red light... what else was there to do?

    Here, NOT A RICER!

I've been pulled over for a yellow before, just told me to slow down. I wasn't sure how I was speeding because I thought that I didn't have time to stop.

Sometimes the cop knows what you did better than you did...and sometimes they don't. I got a warning so I didn't care as much. But I do stop more at yellows more often.

My next question is where are you located?
Certain states/municipalities have different statutes in regards to car stops.
Also, certain areas have police depts that are stricter than others.
then you have certain type of cops who take their resposibilities too literally.

Belive me, I flew by at midnight doing 120 and they didnt even bother me :p But these guys seamed way tooo serious! They acted like I was one of americas most wanted... Its not like theres alot of gangs in sudertown or anything.. While its not as hick like as my home town red hill its still not modern city or anything and they dont got the crime and violance... They just seamed realy on the edge lkike they were on meth or something. Seriously freaked me out.

Well, Do i tell you how to do your job? Do i act like i know how an engineer works, and tell him how to do his job? No. You have no idea if an ATL was just sent out over the air, and your vehicle matched the description in an armed robbery or even a possible homicide. Your vehicle may have been matching the description, therefore the back-up was called.

I can tell you from personal experience, if someone reaches for the glove box without me asking them to, I will error on the side of caution, (Yell and tell them to put their hands on the wheel) and if I am wrong, simply explain why i reacted the way i did. I'd rather hurt someone's feelings with being Authoritative than get shot.

Regarding the yellow light, it may have been an excuse to identify you. I will make up reasons why i stopped them, if I'm attempted to gain intellegence on a situation. And I can also tell you in KS, there would be plenty of PC for a citation if you did indeed speed up to get through the intersection... The law states that when the light changes to yellow, You must CLEAR the intersection, not accelerate to get through it.

Regardless, most people don't really know what goes on behind the Badge. Please don't judge, unless you know the full story.

He told me that since it was too late I should of just ran the red light instead and not of sped up. WIth the whole camera thing now adays I am more woried about a ticket then getting pulled over. I guess next time I'll just slam on my breaks and fly threw my window... If I dont I'll get a ticket for runing a red light. If I speed up I'm gona get a ticket for speed up threw a yellow light. I see no way to win. I just hope next time I see the light change sooner before I'm at the point of no return. :(

I knew someone that was a heavy hitter. He was always on edge. Kinda jumpy streached out like. Just plain freaky. These guys looked like they were extreamly cafinated and on edge... and that made me hinda nervous. Not really a good thing. I'm used to my home towns frendly cops. The kind you know by name. And they no you in return.

Well, I'll agree with you in this instance. There doesn't seem to be a good reason for stopping you for running a yellow light, though MrNightly brought up some good points. The cop's advice about just running the red light....that's just stupid.

But aside from that, if you're doing 120 and only been driving for 6 months, I'd want cops to stop you at every intersection if I lived near you. No offense, but that's just stupid.

120 is ignorant. You may think you are cool... until your being cut out of your vehicle that's so convienantly wrapped around a tree.

Don't say it won't happen... because it will. Cars are not toys and your car isn't made to go 120 MPH.

You told them between the seat... and you went for the glove box... haha **** brilliant.

Hey, you got a warning. So basically, all that happened is you got scared and wasted a half hour of time. You don't speed up through yellow lights without expecting to get pulled over - those things are timed that if you're going the speed limit and see a yellow light, you're either going to make it through before it turns red OR have time to stop.

Not tryin to lecture, but just consider yourself lucky. I've gotten a ticket for not wearing a seat belt as a PASSENGER. When I was in high school we got pulled over in my cousin's van, which had Grateful Dead stickers on it, and they searched the car for an hour. When we asked why, they said "the Grateful Dead stickers were indicitive of drugs and alcohol." Or like Nightly said, your car may have been matching some other description - seems the most likely scenario considering the backup. Of course, they also could have seen when they ran the plates that the car belonged to a 15-year old and wanted to scare him into not gunning it through yellow lights anymore.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

some cops are **** idiots that abuse their power. Some are really nice. Sounds like you got stopped by the first one. I've been pulled over my fair share of times. So in my persoanl exp, 2/3rds of the cops out there are just doing their job. The other third are asses that think every person under 25 deserves a ticket (or 2 in some cases). I've had a detective in an unmarked car tailgate me through my entire town(which isnt that big). I'm talking I could only see half of his hood. We exchanged some words, he asked for my parents phone number so he could call them and telling them I was peeling out in our high school parking lot. Which I had done maybe once a month before, but he said I did it that day and the day before(Even though I was driving another car the day before so he had no way of knowing) Anyway, I told him I was 18 and if he had a problem he could deal with me. He threatened to impound my truck, I told him I would report him for harassment and for tailgating me. He let me go without a warning. I got his badge number and his license plate number but after talking it over w/ parents we decided it was a bad idea to report him b/c like I said before, we live in a small town and our police force/judges are all beer/hunting buddies so im sure theyd all be after me...and I would be off to college in a few months anyway. I've gotten a ticket before that I didnt think I committed(speeding) but i found out later my speedo was off. I explained to him where I had my cruise and he said he clocked me at 78, he was really nice about it. I know hes probably heard that story 5 billion times before and I got a ticket. I got it deferred and went on with my life, I dont understand why more cops cant be like him...

Something you younger guys need to realize, getting pulled over, getting tickets, getting "harassed" and all that stuff is part of growing up and 99% of the time you deserved it. You'll get thru it, grow up and hopefully be able to laugh about it. In other words, it's no BFD!!!

We've all got "stories", move on.

I look at it as karma for not getting bagged for speeding past a cop at 120. Which, of course, had you gotten stopped, you'd be walking for quite awhile.

Second, in 20 years of driving, the times that I couldn't slow down and stop in time for a yellow light are FEW and far between and I certainly didn't need to gun it to get through the light. So, IMO, I think your version of the 'facts' might not be as accurate as you think.

Yeah, there are police that are dickheads but they are vastly outnumbered by the dickheads that they pull over.
