No, it's not showing off if there's not a soul around that I know. It's called having fun and enjoying the vehicle.

You call it being an auto enthusiast, I call it showing off!
I was but a wee lad of 17, had driven from Chicago to Indiana Dunes state park for a late night celestial meeting with one Susie Chevchyk a rather sweet but nasty young thing you dont take to home Mama. Upon departing I was feeling pretty pumped and gunned my OLDS 442 to prove my manhood. Never saw him till the lights and siren, let me go with a warning, sound familiar??
Wonder what ever happened to Susie

regardless of whether or not anyone's around, driving like a d@mn fool on public roads causes accidents (even if its just the d@mn fool driver and a telephone pole or tree).
guess what that does to *MY* insurance premiums???
other than that I don't really mind... let Darwin do his work. The world is better off without them reproducing. -

Hehehehe, that was the name of the car. Four Hundred, Four barrel, Dual Exhaust, one of the 60's muscle cars, had that along with a Pontiac Catalina with a 389, even the family car could get up and run back in the day. Most popular among my little gang were the Chevy Nova with a 427 or Chevelle the 396 SS and some of the Camaro's with 350's and a few 427's there also. AMC also made some hot rods believe or not.

PS--Gas was also a .25 a gallon. maybe .30 for high test and yea, it was loaded with lead. -

I don't buy the "it's ok when no one's around" argument. Why? Because you never *truly* know if there's no one around. You may think you do, but you don't.
I can count the number of times I've been pulled over in my lifetime on one hand, and I'll be 40 next year. I still have yet to ever have a speeding ticket or an accident.
I've had a few warnings, and in two of the cases I *should* have received a ticket. Why didn't I? I put the vehicle in park, turn on hazards, put both hands on the wheel, use "Sir" when addressing an officer, and never make anything that could be contrued as a threatening move. I've never attempted to lie my way out of a ticket. I've said "yes I was going too fast" and I apologize. I'm polite.
Officers just want to go home at the end of their shift, and I believe they appreciate anything *you* can do to make their jobs easier.

Ok, that's just stupid. Let me repeat that, STUPID!. Ok, number one, there's a reason for everything, and, I got pulled over for exceeding the 15 mph limit on this one county park area riding my mountain bike. Now that is scary. But I got away, becuase I was going 17 mph, and I'm not 18 yet.

HELL YES!
I LOVE to race at the track, and I'll admit that racing on public streets is fun too. Back in the late 80's early 90's I probably raced 1000 times on city streets.
Sometimes on the way to and from work, I'll be rollin at about 35, and then some primal urge takes over and I punch it and the tires break loose, the car rocks back and I take off like a rocket, and I LOVE it.
I look at every highway onramp has my personal 1/8 mile drag strip! Hell yeah! Burn them tires! Street racing is good! Burn fossil fuels!
Yippe ki ya mother[bleep]!!!!!!
