Hence, why the cops who become dickheads, it is mostly because all of their time is spent dealing with the dickheads they have contact with. (Domestic violence, shoplifting, 911 calls, assault and battery calls) In all honesty, tickets are a VERY small part of the job...

time to chime in. sucks that it took 3 or more cops/cars to pull you over. but everytime they pull someone over in the middle of nowhere or even in the middle of a major city, their lives are on the line. what if you happened to be carrying 2 kilos of cocaine? you might be inclined to pop a cop because he didn't give you props in oaktown (dr. evil) and then speed away. they deal with this all the time. i know i deserve 28 times the amount of tickets i've gotten. i'm sure you are the same. be thankful you got off scott free. yes, it was overkill, but you left with no fine whatsoever.

added: and i HAVE gotten a ticket for something i did NOT do. but i don't hate cops. it's almost human nature to experience an "us against them" feeling when you see them on the road. they have the upper hand and the authority. who knows if your experience was with dickheads. but again, count your stars because you were driving a bit over the limit if you did not have time to stop. sorry it happened.

Thank you! If you can't stop within 75 ft of a red light you need to check your brakes. I see people run orange lights ALL the time cause they don't want to sit at a red light.

You got busted gunning it to beat it before it turned red. Tough luck. Next time STOP!!!

I dont trust cops. We MUST have them, but we need GOOD cops ONLY!!!
Growing up in Los Angeles I saw way too much police abuse. It got so bad (in the mid 70's) that after multiple community meetings with the Firestone Sherrif's Department reps (with no results), it took a late night drive by on the Sherrif's Station to make the point that beating people for fun would no longer be tolerated. Once the concerned parents let off a few clips, a new station was assigned to our area which only resulted in "less" abuse. Since then, I judge ALL cops on an individual basis. Not all are bad, but in MY experience 7/10 have been ****.

    Think think... Law Enforcement Officer!

Man, I was in Intel *way* too long. It took me a while to get that one.

I got pulled over by Officer DicKWithEars one day with my wife and two little kiddies (then 7 and 2) in the car. We taught the kids that cops are to be respected and trusted, so when when this officer comes up hiding behind his sunglasses and acting like BillyBobBad@$$ it took some heavy explaining to the children about some people - even policemen - have bad days.

It looks like Josh's pullover was a PITA and he got through it without a lot of problems. Good on ya Josh.

You are more than welcome to your opinion but I'd ask you to (A) put yourself in THIER shoes for awhile and (B) imagine if there were NO police.

You know what aggravates me, people pissing and moaning about the police this, the police that.......let YOUR car get broken into and see if the first thought isn't along the line of 'if the damn police would do something about these hoodlums...'

Certain areas are worse than others. I just think any job dealing with the public should be held by someone who can competently handle ALL of its trappings. Even though I understand the "cops have a tough job" arguement, I strongly disagree with it being an excuse for abuse of power. If your an LEO, treat people with dignity until its time "not to". If you cant do that, get another effin job. As the saying goes, you knew the job was dangerous when you took it.

yes. some folk, when handed a position of power, tend to abuse it. remember what the soldiers did at the prison camp with the iraqi/afghani? prisoners? hell, for that matter, remember hitler? remember saddam? i'm not saying that cops in power are synonymous with those aforementioned, but power does tend to go to one's head. this is a time-proven standing issue with power and humanity. i just don't like that these new generation kids see authority and feel anarchy in their veins. law and order must not be frowned upon. it needs to be perceived as a crucial necessity to civilization. am i preaching? or am i rambling?

However, this was not a matter of a cop abusing his power, he was doing his job by pulling over someone who thinks that an orange light means SPEED UP not slow down.

They took appropriate action considering it was late at night & Josh was reaching into a glove compartment for God knows what. They have to look out for themselves too! I'm sure plenty have gotten themselves shot when a gun was pulled from the compartment instead of registration.

true frizzy, but he claims that he was pulled over for 15 minutes, waiting, until more officers showed. maybe he did not describe clearly enough. that's not abuse, it's called watching their backs. but still, a bit of overkill for a yellow light runner.

You make a couple good points cfrizz. If you run a light and get caught, dont whine. Their reaction after the stop is questionable, but reaching for the glove box without asking first is bad idea. In SoCal, that can get you blasted. Not saying its right, but its true. I guess I would like to see the good cops start ratting out the bad ones. IMO, the only way law enforcement will change for the better will be from the inside out. The "code of silence" breeds criminals within every department that has it.

Ask a cop why they pull people over for running yellow lights. Its not for the fun of writing a traffic ticket. Its because that is a big part of how they bust people for illegal firearms and drugs, by pulling them over first for a lame traffic violation.

I would have Tazered Josh when he went for the glove box! :D

You deserved to be pulled over for that one, it happens. You didn't get a ticket, so you're lucky, and I don't think you deserved one. They have disgression on stuff like that.

Depending on where exactly it happened, I'd say that cops have better things to worry about than people speeding through yellow lights. Cops being speed jockeys is a waste of tax payer dollars. I realize they're often told to do it so that's why.

Cops shouldn't be employed to be Revenue rakes.

My brother is a cop in the inner city of Milwaukee, so I realize the dangers of the job. Respect the profession immensely, but with anything else it's a government agency and you've got to question waste. Cops pulling people over for little things like this when there are bigger things going on is really disappointing.

Glad this cop wasn't one of those.

If the Officer had been having a bad day, Josh would not have got off with a warning. The delay was for him to possibly realize he will get where he is going faster if he is not being pulled over. I assure you this was the intent, also, he ran some stuff on Josh which came back as okie dokie no trip to the pokie. It is not unusual for officers to hook up as a show of support when they are available. They did what they were trained to do and that is it. It had its affect on him and everyone who read the thread and posted and griped and supported and its all good.

Our enemies have faces, the problem is they are so diverse you never know, it was handled as a traffic stop not a felony stop. Bad officers are disdained, punished, fired and jailed, it happens. Deep inside I believe all law abiding citizens know the value of the LEO, when these folks get stopped and find the encounter strange it causes them anxiety, fear, anger. Most LEO's dont live past 60 or so ever wonder why?

FWIW, I always try to be respectful and nice. It's hard sometimes. I know they (the officers) have a tough job to do and you can't be lazy and must follow the guidelines so they will remain safe and unharmed.....but. The last time I got pulled over was for no reason whatsoever and it really burned me up, but I was respectful and saved my complaining for the judge.

I work in a College town so right there I know cops have to deal with more BS and therefore can be be a little overzelous pulling people over. I'm 39 but I look like I'm 25 so I suppose she could have mistaken me for a college "punk"...anyways. I pulled out of Subway after lunch, used my blinker and stayed in my lane. This was just as she was passing by (on a 4-lane highway) she was actually ahead of me and in another lane. She started slowing down so I did too, not that I was speeding but I slowed to about 5 mph under the limit and she whips in behind me and follows for about a 1/4 mile to the next light. I stop and turn right( using my blinker) to go back to work, she follows. I go about 2 blocks and turn into the drive that goes to the parking lot and she is still following me. I turn into the work parking lot and she follows and as I park she pulls perpendicular to the back of my car and then turns on her lights, WTF!!!....of course everyone at work has there noses pressed against the windows watching. She gets out and touches my license plate sticker (which is current) and says that my plates come back expired. I look at her and say well as you can see the sticker is current so I don't know what to tell you. She asks is this plate for this car? I reply, when you called it in did it come back as being registered to this car? She said yes, I said well I don't know what the problem could be. She asked for my license and registration and then we both discovered my DL had expired with my B-day. So I did get a ticket for that, which IS against the law, but the pull-over was completely bogus. I went to court with a current DL and only had to pay $30 court costs. I still have no idea why she pulled me over....I think her "expired" tag routine was a bunch of crap as she could see while following me it was current and registered to the correct car.

Let's see........Go around all day running random lic plates and see if we can harrass someone. Took up my whole damn lunch hour. She was cute I should have asked for her #, maybe that's why she pulled me over :D

I don't think the cops were wrong, just a little afraid of what could and has happened. You are lucky that you did not get a ticket Josh, but I feel where you are coming from also. I always ask if it is okay for me to make a move before I do so. The cops in Memphis will Light your ****$ up for reaching and making suddend moves. Always say, "It is in the glove box. Do you want me to get it?" Let them know your intentions, and everything will go smooth most of the time. I got pulled over for no reason at all, and when they pull me over, I just cooperate and I am on my way. They always say "are you armed?" I say "yes" while keeping my hands on the wheel. "Where is the weapon?", "strong side hip" (right) Do you have a permit?", I say "yes". This is a typical traffic stop for me, with no problems. You have to be smart and don't do anything stupid when you get pulled over. Some cops are dicks no matter how mannerable you are with them. Next time just be cool and you won't have half the force on your ****$. :D

It sounds like Josh needs a PBA card, or a courtesy shield. Josh, you have no clue what happened after they ran your plate. Your name could have popped a warrant, different guy, same name. The glove compartment thing was stupid, don't volunteer to do anything, just follow their instructions. The search of the car, NO GOOD... Once you were outside the car they can only search anything that is in your lungable area, but then it's your word against theirs, unless they were looking for a car that matched yours, and the guy just robbed a liquor store or something.. and if you said no, they would have taken you in for something else, then impounded your car, then inventoried it anyway... Here in NYC there are two cops in the RMP's and one allways has his gun out just in case you run into an idiot on a car stop. On a good note, these cops know who you are now and will probably leave you alone, not if you blow by them at 120 mph. PM me, and when I get the new 2006 get outta jail free cards i'll send you one... KIRK

some times cops can over react, i got a $150 fine for my car being too noisy, its only 96db, i would hardly call that loud, any how i think we're all guilty of speeding up for yellows, lets be honest here. Its just american cops have guns and they like to pull them out, whether it be for their own safety or not.
