I'll be honest and say it's actually pretty rare that I gun it to make a yellow light. I'd rather get caught at a red light. I often times will be wishin' the light turns red as I approach it so I hafta stop. Why? So I get to take off! Hold the brake just a bit and nail the gas...nothing replaces the feeling you get when you break the tires loose!

MrNightly - Got a question for ya. Could I get stopped for barking my tires? I realize it's not the best thing to do, but it's not actually driving dangerously, so I don't see anything wrong with it. Also, what would be a cops view of *trying* to drift around a turn (not drifting...just breaking loose the rear end) and leaving a bunch of smoke behind you?George Grand wrote: »

Well, in the State of Kansas (Johnson County) you would get stopped for squeeling tires. it's a "Display of speed" and finable. Personally, I could care less, unless i want inside the car for possible dope. But many cops would love to ticket you for it. As for "Drifting" or "Sliding" around corner, you could be stopped for either careless driving, or again, displaying speed. Either way, probably not the best idea. Unless you know you are alone or the cop is like me!

Bummer. Guess it makes sense, though. Displaying speed, lol. I'm afraid I don't have a lot of that, but it sure is fun to take advantage of that light rear-end. I can't imagine what my driving record would be like if I actually had the kind of car I want. That'd just be scary.
I actually break traction a lot unintentionally. The other day I did a u-turn in the middle of a road and nailed it when I straightened up (like I always do ), and I broke 'em loose for a ways. It's amazing sometimes even just taking off from a light not overly aggressive I'll break the tires loose. And then sometimes I'll want to and hold the brake and they won't break loose. I typed that wrong initially.
Thanks for the info.George Grand wrote: »

I hate people that get a little power and act all stupid about it. I like for people like that to piss me off so i can knock the hell out of them.

no i did'nt, as im not an american or a police person, its just where i come from cops have battons and spray on display not guns, my question is why pull a wepon on a person for running a yellow light? seems a bit extreme -
truth is, in the officers' defenses, none of us know just exactly what they were doing or thinking. all i know is some get me upset, but USUALLY only due to my own actions. my warning to ticket ratio is like 8:1. usually they be cool and give a warning. i smoked out my rear tires big time at a red light once to impress my buddy beside me. guess i shoulda looked behind me, as two cop cars immediately beared down on my **** and pulled me over. they asked me what the hell i was doing. i looked at them and said, "i was showing out for my friend." one officer looked at the other and said, "at least he's honest" and let me go no prob. this was a smokescreen like no other. and no ticket. anyway, who knows what took place besides josh and the officers. perhaps they had a legitimate cause. god bless most of 'em. they are the first ones i'd call if someone broke into my home, that is, if i didn't shoot 'em in the belly first. btw, i am not trigger happy by any means at all. even in self-defense i'm sure taking a life has some serious repurcussions.

Now, I might've missed it, but i didn't see Josh say that they pulled guns on him at all. If they did at all, it was likely after he reached for the glove compartment, which would be cause to draw their weapons, as you never know what someone is going to pull out of there. demi, I can totally understand why there are so many cops out on the road. Look up the statistics. How many ppl get killed by traffic violators vs. murderers?
I live in a college town, cops are really bad here. Our school makes hundreds of thousands of dollars a year (actual statistic, dont remember the exact figure) from issuing parking tickets and the like. Parking tickets range from 25-300, most being 25. Stuff like being parked too long in a 30 min zone or parking the wrong way(the latter got me.) We have kids on bicycles getting pulled over for running stop signs when no cars are coming. Its rediculous. I know its illegal its these guys that piss me off. I'd much rather them be looking for my $400+ bike that got stolen than harassing someone for running a stop sign on a bike when no one is around.
ab, in texas, its called exhibition of acceleration and will most certainly get you a ticket...been there, done that.

Haha, this one time I was with a friend of mine, we were taking a lunch break from work, so we went to a 99 (Restaurant) right near my work. When we pulled into the side street where the driveway for the restaurant was, my buddy randomly decided (on purpose) to take the turn ridiculously wide and drive up on the shoulder, laughing the whole time. We were both crackin up, it was just random shenanigans. Well, we pull into the parking lot,a nd a cop saw the whole thing. Walks up to the door, and asks us "what the hell was that?" My buddy stammers out "uh, there was a pothole. I swerved to avoid it". The cop says " I don't see anyone else driving on the lawn" and my buddy just gave in and was like "Yeah, they're not **** like me." The cop just laughed and said "You got that right" and let us go.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

This is precisely why kids & old people should not be allowed to drive. The dumb young ones are always trying to show off or be cool, and the old ones simply don't have the reflexes, or can't see because they are sitting below the steering wheel!audiobliss wrote:Bummer. Yeah but if you dont let kids drive as kids they will never grow into good experience drivers... agree with you on the old people thing though. They should have reflex tests... Like dodgeball or something hehe.Fiberglass reminds me of peanut brittle, only fiberglass tastes better!

If they LIVE long enough to become good experienced drivers. I've lost count this year as I do every year of the number of dead kids that have wrapped themselves & their buddies around trees, poles, rails, ect. coming home from the prom & just getting ready to graduate! cfrizz- that is way too large of a blanket statement. A lot of kids are irresponsible and immature when it comes to driving, yes. But I was always taught that my being able to drive is a priveledge, not a right. I got my permit a week after I turned 16, had over 100 hours of driving in at the end of my 6month permit period (requirement is 50), got my license on my first try, and have only been in one accident since then which involved sliding on the highway at 45mph in a freak snowstorm. That accident was was right after I got my license, and I have not had another infraction since. I have never been pulled over, in the 3 years I've had my license.
Just want to clarify, that there are some people who can handle the responsibility that comes with driving. It probably also helps that I am still paying a lot of money for my truck, and it's all my money, which makes me want to actually take care of it, and not try to beat it up at every light and turn...Ludicrous gibs! -

I don't try to show off or be cool. I'm just an auto enthusiast and I enjoy doing it. I've never done it to show off, 'cause I don't go cruising, and I don't let anyone ride with me. In fact, over the year and seven months I've had my license, only one person (and only once) has ridden with me besides my parents or anyone their age (old enough ).
I don't do these things in any way that increases the risk of an accident - well, almost never. Let's just say I don't play around on wet roads much anymore. But I try to be very careful and observant, and I consciously try not to do anything that would increase the risk of an accident.
Kids shouldn't drive? I certainly don't agree with that. The highlight of my day is getting to drive to school. And it's letting me become experienced behind the wheel, which is a very important thing. I'll agree that there are a lot of kids who act stupid just to show off that shouldn't be driving, but I guess that's one reason for police: to pull over those kids and scare them into stopping being stupid.
I also view driving as a privilege, and I want very much to improve my driving skills and become a good driver. If you're a big auto enthusiast and love driving, I can only imagine it'd be almost impossible not to intentionally lose traction every now and then. But that doesn't mean you're a bad driver or are a threat to every motorist's safety.George Grand wrote: »

At least it used to be that way until the red light revenue cameras went up. Now the yellow is shortened at those particular lights. Otherwise they get almost no revenue.
