It would also be interesting to add home values to that graph. Does anyone really want their home return to its value of 2000?

Absolutely - and why wouldn’t I want it to return to its “value” of 2000? Now I’m being taxed on 4x (inflated) value, and I’m having to insure 4x (inflated) value.

Here’s some basic economic insight for you - Barring some significant improvement/expansion, the value of my home (and everyone else’s) hasn’t changed in the past 24 years. What has changed is the relative value of our currency. Just because inflation has gone crazy the past few years, that doesn’t mean my home is worth more. Further, if I sell it and reap the “profit”, I will be purchasing another home at a similarly inflated “value”. Indeed the only way to realize my “profit” would be to sell my home and not acquire another.

You’re not entirely wrong @daddyjt, but people don’t always think that through.

    Overall, though:
    1. My home value has increased far faster than inflation, or my salary (when I still had one). It’s like a second 401(k) in reality. If I were to sell it, I could still buy something fabulous in Colorado (or elsewhere) with the proceeds.
    2. As mentioned previously, California limits property tax increases for existing owners so that they can’t outpace income, so our taxes are actually less of a burden in proportion to our income than they were 25 years ago.

Tony Beets of Gold Rush fame said it first...Drill baby drill. ;)

Although he was referring to finding where "gold specks" were most concentrated on a plot of land.

Tony was/is an awesome gold miner!

Those that are in outstanding financial positions in Cali do well.

    Apologies…..

I have no complaints on our gas price here in Laramie, WY.
We are at $2.79 at our lowest price for regular.
