The EV Hate Thread

At this point, I'm going to drive the wheels off the Camry. Being retired, that will
take a while. The true cost of ev driving is yet to be revealed. Let's face it. Current
battery production is about as dirty as it gets. Go Google the strip mining in the
Congo. I'm pretty sure the "recycling" side of batteries is just as bad.

^ That’s the plane.
They actually completed the runway for that nuke plane, largest runway I’ve ever seen.
Never heard of Plowshare….
Interesting read. -

They look like the first successful reactors in Idaho. At first they could only power a few light bulbs. The Gear... Yep, they were the two prototypes.
The one on the left is the original iteration with the one on the right being the 2nd scaled down version.
They had a ways to go to get em down to workable size for the aircraft.
Reckon someone finally asked the question, should we even do this? -
Another neighbor couldn't afford the battery. Becoming the norm I suppose.

The best part, is the VW doesn't come with a $20K battery bill...Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists. -
Not much sympathy for the Tesla owner, sadly. If he can’t afford the battery, he couldn’t afford the car either when he bought it.
Okay, I drive a 30 year old truck with 215K miles and an 18 year old car with 160K miles, both owned from new, so maybe I’m a bit extreme in my frugality sometimes. 🤣
I suppose the EV industry is going to have to figure out affordable battery replacements. Maybe offer 0% interest loans or something similar so that impacted owners don’t have to just give up on the car completely. 🤷♂️
I did consider a pre-owned i3 as a local runaround car. Mostly because it was such a blast to drive and so cheap to run. My independent specialist BMW & Mercedes-Benz mechanic informed me that the battery was 8K (much smaller than a Tesla), and came with 4 cells at 2K each, so that it wasn’t always necessary to replace the whole battery. The batteries are warranted for 8 years, or 10 years in California for some models (like REx). There are mileage limitations for the warranty, however.Alea jacta est! -
I don't think EV's will be cheap to run in the near future when the road tax kicks in, and all our power bills go up.

Not frugal, smart. We'd still be driving our 07 Rav 4 had the frame not rusted out and deemed unsafe to drive. Our current vehicles a 2017 and 2018, I plan on passing them down to the kids then buying used again. -
Speaking of rust....this has to be a world record....11 days ??

Must be Chinese stainless steel.....
-
Years ago the company I worked for paved a driveway for the guy that invented a coating for stainless steel. It was a long driveway that went up the side of the mountain he owned to his mansion on the top. Just the driveway alone cost more than my home. His mansion at the top of the mountain was complete with a bowling alley in the basement, geo-thermal heating, overlooking a lake etc. Evidently there's some serious money to be made in the stainless steel coating industry.
-
There are different grades of stainless steel with 304 and 316 being the more common. 304 is the most common and more rust resistant. 316 is more corrosion resistant, which is why it is referred to as marine grade. However, none are rust proof.Political Correctness'.........defined

316 is what we use for "plumbing" of various kinds in my line of work.
Stainless steel has lots of foibles. "Rouging" is a common problem. Acid solutions (even mildly acidic ones) containing chloride ions (e.g., salts such as NaCl, KCl, etc.) can be tough on (even) 316 stainless.

The Cybertruck as a design would be questionable even if it wasn’t an EV.
This is probably the first new EV launch in years where I haven’t seen one on local streets within days or weeks, including the Lucid Air, whereas I’ve already spotted the equally questionable Ineos Grenadier.Alea jacta est! -
I think Tesla's x and y don't even look like SUVs more like hump back cars and shouldn't be considered such.
-
The original most successful SUV is probably the Lexus RX which isn’t really much better than a Model X or Model Y in terms of blobiness.
Depends on what one expects from a “Sport Utility Vehicle”. It basically means a raised station wagon that isn’t body on frame. Most don’t have any off road capability other than higher clearance than a station wagon (and higher gas consumption too).
Of course, the current Toyota RAV4 is one of the most successful SUV’s, and it’s clearly a beast of an off road animal. Just look at that front grille design! So yeah… there’s that… 🤦♂️
Alea jacta est! -
The Grand-daddy of the original SUV is the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, which gave way to Jeep Grand Cherokee, considered to be the father of the current SUV trend. The Grand Cherokee is also the most successful SUV brand of all time. The Gear...
