Exactly - what a coincidence that the old holes for the mid/tweet just happen to be the right size to tune a box with 2x 12” and 1x 6” woofers…

^^^ that sounds like a scene out of a movie, kid showing off new speakers to his friends... watch thisss...

Reminds me of a time my best friend growing up was trying to be a rock star with his dad's acoustic guitar. Not sure what happened, but he went to go strum it like Pete Townsend, and wound up taco'ing the thing. I went weak laughing so hard. I think we just tried to put the two pieces back in the closet against the wall, but that didn't work out very well.

    Yeah, this is sad :(
I never really got to go to a hifi shop before. I've only ever seen whatever the beig9bkx electronics stores have had.
I agree, and I contribute to this problem/principle, unfortunately. And I feel some guilt.

One thing I don't do, though, is go to a store, take up a clerk's time and expertise, and then go home to order online somewhere else to save a few bucks. That amounts to stealing, imho, especially if it's a mom and pop operation.

Apparently they STOPPED doing this in 2024, but I’m amazed that something like this ever got the green light…

Volvo really pissed me off recently with similar nonsense.

First 4 years of Volvo Connected Services is "free", then it's $200 a year. I don't really care as I don't use it, like at all.

What they don't make clear, they buried the cars remote start behind the "Connected Services" paywall.

I let them know exactly what I thought about that, over their customer service chat in the app. They extended me another year of the service "for free".

I ended the chat with, "Talk to you next year, we can do this all over again".

My son in law has a 2020 Toyota Tundra & his remote start stopped working after 1 year. I had a 2020 Tacoma that didn't have remote, key start which I liked. Last year in Aug I bought 2023 (last of 6cyl Tacoma) & it's now over 1 year old & it still works. I did research some & it appears after 1 year it's 8.00 a month. The only thing I can think of is I purchased a 10yr/100,000 Platinum warranty at 2000.00 plus dollars

    Wait a cotton picking minute!
You buy a vehicle that has "features" or a "package" you paid for in the price of said vehicle. NOW one of those features only works after a said amount of time if you buy it again and again? That is a complete pile of horse💩!
    What a SCAM!!

Could you imagine audio companies starting this trend?

Buy a reciever and after a year, the LFE and rear channels stop working until you subscribe to $8 a month to access again.

Buy a streamer and apps only work for a one year period....gotta dish out more dough in order for those apps to be seen again.

That would be a very quick way to lose a customer for life. I know, I wouldn't even buy a product that did something so asinine.

Now, I understand the offering of something like OnStar or XM Radio for one year. That's a seperate company/service. But for a remote start or seat heater? Stupidity redefined right there.

it even gets worse. You start vehicle (4clicks with LOCK button) & as soon as you grab doorhandles it shuts off. Even using remote to unlock door. Theft safety I guess Then you have to start it again. Makes no sense. I don't use the remote start for that reason. Useless.

My favorite part of the chat with Volvo, when I asked if they seriously put a standard feature behind a paywall, the corporate response was:

“Correct, after 4 years remote start is an out of pocket experience”.

I responded with the fact that it’s nothing less than a shameful cash grab. That the only reason to put a standard feature like remote start behind that paywall was because essentially nobody would pay for the useless “connected services” otherwise.

I informed them that if this is the direction of Volvo, this will be my last one.

Then she found an offer “linked to my VIN” for another free year.

Next time I’m in the dealer, I’ll be letting them know that I’m actively dissuading anyone from purchasing a Volvo, until they course correct.
