I'm looking forward to seeing what the Bronco has to offer. I am currently awaiting a new 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon that I ordered from the factory back in May. It is in transit and due to be delivered to the dealership this week. I hope the Bronco doesn't make me regret my purchase. I've owned several Jeeps over the years, and have never been disappointed.

I'm hoping the best for the Bronco. Competition is good for both companies.

The new Bronco has some interesting features.

If you kill someone, it self-drives to Brentwood.

Ford, hurry up and reveal before this backfires, because I see the new Bronco family as:
    The Bronco Jeep
    The Bronco Landover, and
    The Bronco Old Nissan Pathfinder

A direct and major challenge to the Jeep Wrangler next year with tons of factory options for off road adventuring. A V-6 with 310 hp and 400 lb-ft as an option and a manual transmission with the turbo 4 cylinder from the Ranger. Maybe Toyota will feel compelled to jump back into this market too with an FJ Cruiser type of vehicle. More people are probably going to be eager to get out in the wild more for a while.

NBC was lucky that they caught that vintage film of the Germans rear ending the Pinto during WWII.
    Most fortunate indeed.

...and Jeep just announced today they've dropped a 6.4 liter Hemi into a factory Wrangler concept vehicle. Touche!

My 2 cents from many years of real off road experience. A straight 6 with impressive torque wins the day as most of the time one is basically crawling. High horsepower engines can get you into trouble quickly. In addition, a 5 point racing harness and a good roll bar are must haves.

Heh -- my Bronco had nothing but its tinfoil roof... but I was young and stupid :) Fortunately, natural selection was kind, in my case. :|

I assume that modern Federal regs require at least a modicum of occupant protection for rollovers on the modern morph.

I did have the 302 in mine -- but the truck (and it was a truck, albeit a little one) was geared for terrain, not freeways.

This is insightful simply due to the fact that I thought Jesse only knew about which wax was best for bat wings and which type of wood was best for hanging rafters.

I think the new Bronco looks fantastic and has a very impressive spec sheet. It appears to be extremely capable. My main concern are with those turbo charged engines. While they can turn out the impressive torque they typically need higher rpm to get there. I suspect this led to the 95/1 ratio of the crawl gear which ford was boasting about as a feature, was really a necessity to get the torque to the ground at a crawling pace.

With the engines consistently turning higher rpm to create that torque when off-road I wonder if overheating of the engines/reliability will be an issue. Also curious how well those inter coolers perform when covered in dirt and grime and little air flow.

Super cool machine, but I don’t think I’ll be giving up my 4Runner just yet.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

I think simple, rugged and durable are the watchwords for off road hardware.
There is such a thing as too much technology.

But I am sure 99.7%* of all of them sold will be doin' grocery store and lacrosse (or whatever sport is still popular whenever there are kid sports again) runs and little else.

Well, of course. Same goes for Land Rovers and G-Wagens, just to name two of the most capable rigs for going off-road that, at least here in the USA, almost never do.

Our arborist collects Land Rovers. Real ones. And he uses 'em, too -- but only in the summertime.

PS Subaru offers that canned mud stuff as a dealer-available accessory. Shoulda gotten some for my Crosstrek; I have to settle for road dust.

I like the style. I always liked the Ford 4.9/300 straight 6 in some of my trucks. It was a stump puller.

I believe most of the ford ecoboost motors actually make max torque at or even under 3000 rpm...they spoil up very quickly. Turbocharged engines have come a long way but I do hear your concerns about possibly longevity.

I guess only time will tell.
