Following the untimely demise of the “other” thread, this thread can help keep anyone with an interest up to date on what the situation is as it develops.

Try and keep your politics out of the discussion (in accordance with Club Polk guidance - and they own the forum).

Some information from the previous discussion:
  • The Tracker From John Hopkins University of global infections. This is frequently behind the current situation from other credible local sources, frequently even a day late (sometimes longer), but it still seems to be the most complete source of data that is updated at least daily.
  • The U.S. Center for Disease Control & Prevention Home Page. Updated at noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • W.H.O. Response Home Page, with daily updates.
Also, the effect according to age and contributing factors etc.
wave2be0q5lq.jpeg

At the moment, three countries have enacted a strict quarantine outside of China. They are Italy, France and Spain.
  • The number of cases outside of China tripled within a week from last Friday, March 6.
  • The number of cases outside of China will exceed those in China within 24 hours (as of today, March 14).
  • More than 75% of cases detected have recovered in China. 25% of those detected in Iran have recovered.
  • No other country exceeds a recovery rate of 10%.
  • The epicenter is currently Europe, especially Italy and Spain, but also France and Germany.

Isn't that obvious Bud. Same can be said for any virus. You can't test 365 million people , so naturally some will go undetected.

Now here's the good news. If indeed this virus is more widespread than anyone thinks, and the death toll is the same, kinda reduces that percentage and places this virus in pus sy cat territory in comparison to others.

I also read that if you have had this virus once, you can still get it again, and again...

Yes. I have seen that a few times. I guess it will be like the flu where you need to get a shot every year. Of course since we don’t have any shots for it yet that is all speculation.

What was the previous big scare that an anti-virus was rushed through that proved to wind up being terribly harmful?

Thursday, the company announced that starting Monday, it would give new customers “60 days of complimentary Internet Essentials service, which is normally available to all qualified low-income households for $9.95/month,” according to a press release.
Also, we are increasing Internet speeds for the Internet Essentials service from 15/2 Mbps to 25/3 Mbps for all new and existing customers, which will be the speed of the service going forward. In this way, we will ensure that Internet Essentials customers will be able to use their Internet service for all their increased needs as a result of this health crisis.

I do believe, due to the high risk of this thread getting shut down, which IMO is invaluable as we discuss CV, we need to take care. I will do the same.

Because people are so polarized that you can't have an opinion that differs from their world view. They get all pissed when you challenge their religion. How's that for political?

Well....I didn't mean to upset anyone on implying Breitbart is a politically agenda driven source of information.
FWIW....anyone with Netflix should watch "Pandemic" IMO. It came out over before the current crisis and is a pretty straight documentary on pathogens, viruses, and the such. It does paint some pretty scenarios we should all be prepared for. I would be curious what others think of this mini series.
