Looking for a new washer, dryer, and refrigerator.

All in one would be nice but that's just silly. What brands have yooz had good luck with? Not looking for anything fancy, the washer, dryer has to be stackable and the freezer needs to fit a family of four.

Stay far away from Samsung refrigerators. They were awesome a while ago, and the one we left in our house in Indiana is still going strong 15 years later. Our current one is just 5 years old and ready for the trash heap. The door is rusting out around the ice maker/water dispenser, the plastic used to frame the glass shelves has split and coming apart, and the drawer plastics have all cracked. it is a complete and total POS.The Gear... So far my LG Frig has been great. Its about 5 years old.
As far as a washer.... my old Maytag was a washing champ! that thing washed clothes unlike any others that I grew up with. With the lid open the powerful stroke of the agitator would cause water to splash out.
My new gen Maytag washer and dryer are fine. However, I don't like the high efficiency top load washers so much. I miss my old Maytag.2.2 Office Setup | LG 29UB55 21:9 UltraWide | HP Probook 630 G8 | Dell Latitude | Cabasse Stream Amp 100 | Boston Acoustics VS 240 | AUDIORAX Desk Stands | Mirage Omni S8 sub1 | Mirage Omni S8 Sub2 -
I would suggest stopping by an independent repair shop. Talk to someone who repairs and services daily. I'm on about 5 years with my Whirlpool kitchen but that doesn't necessarily mean they will be good long term appliances.

I concur. Ours is beautiful, but quit making ice in its 2nd year, and developed an interior leak after 3 years. We've had 2 different Samsung technicians look at it, but won't touch it. We have to unplug it and let the ice that forms behind the back panel and under the crispers melt. Otherwise it starts pushing water onto the floor.PS Audio Stellar Gain Cell DAC/Preamp

+1 as they say.
Speed Queen, as best I know, is still the sine qua non.
We have one of those high efficiency top load Whirlpool washers with no agitator. It is a hunk o' junk.
We had a Fisher Paykel (when they were still made in New Zealand or whatever) in MA. That was a nice high efficiency washing machine.

The appliance repairmen that I’ve spoken too have all said the would never have a refrigerator with an ice maker or water dispenser. About 1/3 of their calls involve them.
Washers and driers, about the only thing they said was to look at the cheaper models. The simple ones can usually be repaired at a reasonable price. Those high end models out of warranty can get really expensive. -
Speed Queens are sturdy workhorses but limited bells and whistles. Can't speak for a lot of the others. But in my travels through many homes, a brand many builders try to avoid is GE. I had a six month old fancy GE washer given to me, estate of a friend, about 15 years ago and it was noisy and trouble prone. I tend to have good luck with Whirlpool products. YMMV.

I went with some new Maytag front loaders at the new house, as we had older ones that were built like tanks. Over 3 years, very happy!
We went with all Viking appliances in the new kitchen! Again, we had them at the old house and were very happy. A buddy bought a LG refrigerator two years ago and He’s had four compressors replaced already. Each time, he has to wait weeks for their “ independent contractor” repair people to come and look at it then wait again for parts and the guys to come back. Apparently a wide spread problem with their compressors of late according to repair guys who said never buy a LG refrigerator.
-
Samsung fridges are junk.
The icemaker water lines inside the chassis leak and freeze.
A lot of stuff in the last 7 years is NOT built like before.
New energy and water conservation standards have sucked
All the reliability out of stuff. So choose with care."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
I've actually thought about getting into appliance repair. I hear there can be some good money in it. So much of the current stuff seems not capable of going the distance.2.2 Office Setup | LG 29UB55 21:9 UltraWide | HP Probook 630 G8 | Dell Latitude | Cabasse Stream Amp 100 | Boston Acoustics VS 240 | AUDIORAX Desk Stands | Mirage Omni S8 sub1 | Mirage Omni S8 Sub2

Bought a mid-line Maytag washer and dryer. Washer was a high efficiency style, the kind that barely fills the tank with water. Didn't wash clothes worth a crap, never let the water actually get hot, took FOREVER to fill the basin, and still didn't wash well. It blew the circuit board after three months, warrantied it, sold to friend for a loss. It lasted him a year. Absolute garbage. Opened up my 15yo kenmore, fixed it, still running strong at 20 years. After properly researching what's out there my next washer will be a Speed Queen.
The Maytag dryer has great capacity and works like a dryer. As long as you set it to max dry...the ONLY setting it will actually get the clothes all dry. But that's fine with me.
The local Speed Queen dealer also sells Maytag fridges. He says they are solid, probably one of the better ones. Take that for what it's worth.

GE has the most expensive parts. A friend who owns a parts repair business tries his darnest to find the same part under another brand name for their repairs to save dollars vs the GE brand that it usually twice as much. -
Actually Speed Queen *does* make a stacking W/D set.

You know -- I was just reflecting on this thread (musing, if you will) and I was struck by a thought. Speed Queen sounds like the title of some obscure Deep Purple B-side.

Speed queen for the win here also. Has outperformed and out lasted any other brand I've had.

LG fridges use a linear compressor,, just had ours replaced, unit is 5 years old,,also had coils replaced and waiting on fan and motherboard, fortunately it is covered by our extended warranty,, talked with repair guy about other brands,, when the time comes to replace it,, it won’t be an LG,, they know about the compressor issue, hence the class action lawsuit. My dad bought an upright Kenmore freezer in 1972,, still going strong today
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut) -
Most all Kenmore was made by whirlpool for Sears.
-
What ever you buy, get an extended warranty.
Ours has paid for itself 3 times over with our Whirlpool Gold Reg. upright frig/freezer w/ ice and water disp. 4/door. It's 6 years old now. Had 3 repairs for temp. not cooling enough. Doing ok now but who knows when the next glitch will happen.
The repair shop owner said all new fridges are made cheaply and some NOT tested enough before public offering. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
I have a totally different approach: if it requires an extended warranty to feel safe from unexpected expenditure for repairs, then it isn’t worth buying in the first place.Alea jacta est!
