    That said, I think there's identically one 12SN7 here... or maybe there are more, and I just haven't stumbled across them lately.

    Did a quick check on the TV7 Data table for the settings. Well, what do you know? Identical except the filament voltage!
    So it would be an easy way to measure Gm by running a 12SN7 with only 6.3 filament volts applied to it! :smile:

    I found this interesting and handy tube guide! RCA receiving tube manual (last version) RC-30, circa 1975. Originals are hard to come by, and there is a scanned version both in PDF or hardcopy for sale.

    It has a tube substitution section. Starting on page 650.

    That is as it should be -- it is the exact same tube except for the filament voltage/current.

    The RC-30 is good (I have the Antique Electronic Supply reprint from the '90s) -- but it has little info on some of the classic tubes that were and are popular for hifi.
    But, have no fear, I've got your vacuum tube manual resource site right here.

    Actually, I'll bet it has that faint, subtle yet piquant bouquet of heated transformer insulation that is oh-so-familiar to oh-so-many of us who dabble in vintage vacuum tube electronics.

    So I checked them, and they test very good! Here are the results

    Tube1 - T1=2250, T2=2350
    Tube2 - T1=2150, T2=2125

    Minimum value is 1250 Gm

    No shorts either. And pretty well balanced! Not a bad deal IMO for such a good price!

    T1 = 1375, with a minimum of 1000
    T2 = 6875, with a minimum of 5000

    Again, test results show that this is a good tube, not super strong, but decent enough. 5 more 6DN7's to follow!

    Yep! As I did too back in the day. Not sure what exactly happened to it, IIRC it suffered through an F4 Phantom strike and was obliterated! :smile:

    They have some pretty nice diecast versions out there today. Mine is 1/43 scale.

    That is a nice tube caddy. I've never seen one with metal insides.
    I have one of my father's old RCA caddys (caddies?) but it's, unfortunately, not in great
    shape. It is full of tubes, but most of them are late-era TV tubes, and are probably not even really worth the space they take up. There do have some sentimental value, though.

    My Dad had one, and a bunch of other Heathkit stuff, including a DIY tube tester, as he liked to dabble. I wonder if my brother has it? The sentimental value IMO makes it priceless.
