    Congratulations on your latest acquisition!

    AFAIK, you don’t need to run a full complement of Popes in all 8 or even 6 of the positions

    If you’re using XLR out of the Cary, just put the premium tubes in position #3 & 6

    If you’re using RCA, premium tubes go in position #1, 2, 4 and 5


    I don’t have cans yet, so I relegate EH tubes to #7 & 8

    Right now I am using xlr and have the tubes as you suggested. I also have other gear so I will fill all 6 sockets. I don't use the headphone section. Thank you

    So a little drama on the Cary. I'm getting no output from the right channel on Aux1 and Aux3, both RCA connections. Did the typical troubleshooting, swapped cables, components, even swapped the tubes on the unbalanced circuits, to no avail.

    Aux2 works, which is also an RCA connection, which is weird to me, but that IMO ruled out bad tubes. The XLR outputs work fine.

    Cary provided a quick response to my email sent yesterday, unfortunately no other suggestions were offered, other than sending it in for service.

    So I'm thinking about getting the repairs done, and bundle it with the ultimate upgrade since it will already be there.

    Since I connected the Cambridge to the Northstar DAC, I really only need 1 RCA connection. And I can play with the XLR's as well. So it functions for now, but I'm leaning toward just sending it in. Get everything checked, fixed, upgraded, better than new.

    All I can say it is good to have a back up! :smile:

    Anything I miss? Any help, advice, or other troubleshooting suggestions are most welcome!

    Are you saying XLR's in aux 1&3 work but not RCA's?

    Aux1 and Aux3 are RCA only. Aux2, which is also RCA, works fine. Both XLR1 and XLR2 are fine. From the web:

    Thanks Dog! Lot's of rave reviews on that upgrade. The rep from Cary stated that they have done over 1500 upgrades to date. And my turn around time would be about a week! Thinking, thinking, dang I think too much! :smile:
