My brother and I got this type of Mini-Bike one year from Sears. We had a blast! No helmet, no front brake, the rear pedal brake literally scrubbed the rear tire tread in order to stop! And we survived! What fun!
Had one of those too, but mine was a bunch of parts that had to be put together. Only rode it a few times before the engine seized from lack of oil.The Gear... A lot of memories in this thread! Had many of the toys mentioned (Evil Kenevil motorcycle, helicopter on the tether, slot cars, matchboxes, MOUSE TRAP - although I don't think we ever really played it as a game).
Summers when all the cares were gone. Riding our BMX bikes for miles with a bat and glove to the little league field. Stopping along the way to buy a baseball. Playing until sunset.

Any of you remember Kenner's Girder And Panel Building Sets?..My folks got me one of those back in the late 50's I think..Played with that thing for hours at a time..Wish I had a pic of that thing to share with yas..It had an ungodly amount of pieces...Toys back in those days more often than not were very educational weren't they?..Sparked imagination...

That's the baby!..I also had one that you could build bridges with...also I think Mattel had a three foot high white rocket that you attached up to a garden hose..The final stage you put caps in it so when it came down it popped..They claimed it could go 300 feet..don't know if it went that high..but remember it going out of sight..That thing was cool too... -

Also, the Sensation Corp. was in town. They made great lawn mowers and in the mid 60's they added mini-bikes. Many of the kids had them. It was a great time growing up. Kids today don't know what real fun is. Sensation mini-bikes in the link.

This pic reminds me of when choppers were all the rage. We would literally cut other forks up and pound them on to our existing fork. And, occasionally, the extensions would come loose!

I had friends and neighborhood kids who did that. I had that cool shwinn 5-speed chopper and didn't have to do that. I rode one and talk about BAD handling!!! Look at the picture. That's about how those guys looked every 50 ft. One foot on the ground.

I delivered a thousand Washington Post newspapers with that bike. nestled between the high rise handlebars. I had to make a couple of trips. Sundays were a M**(*^&*%R, but I was making money. Gawd, I hated delivering newspapers. I would do that occasionally for a friend when he went on vacation, sick, etc. Up at 5 AM and dragging a wagon around the neighborhood. HAHAHA We had a party line in the house I grew up in until about 1975. In the mid-80s, my parents lived near the lake and one of the camps on the shore shared a party line with them. Luckily those people were only around for a few months during the summer.
