Well my boxes were trashed, but the 705 were in perfect condition, with the exception of on of the rubber boots falling off of a 5x7. I just got them plugged in, and the mess cleaned up....got to take a quick rr break and grab a brew, then i am all set

You got me all worked up. Can't wait to hear your reaction..

  • That's the first thing I noticed too...they are punchy. A little smoother than the rti's and sound much more natural...I'm sure with a little break-in they will do even better.

    Same as Paul, here!

Yeah guys, I noticed the same as you, right out of the box. And, they get even better within a matter of hours.

One of the qualities that jumped out at me was the balance across the listening range. For as much as I love the 703's, they sound a little bottom plump compared to the 705's. The 705's took a little getting used to - not long at all - but the refinement was apparent.

I went from the LSi15's to the 705's. I loved the 15's, but what immediately jumped out to me about the 705's was how coherent the speaker was top to bottom. Just a full-sounding beauty.

  • These are definitely changing as each hour passes....opening up a bit but got a little too rich on the highs. I am going to let them play all night and through the day tomorrow, maybe by the weekend they will be good to go. Their transparency has already been amazing these things just disappear.

    Just curious, getting ideas!

I think the 15's are fantastic, mid and treble wise, but only pretty good bass wise, until the boomy woofer issue is addressed in one way or another.

I have 15's as well. They are stored, not in the same league as the 705's in my experience.....and opinion.

I'm not knocking them, I just like the 705's way more.

Well I had the local UPS hold the speakers for me to pick up, took a half day off and have them at home now.

I was worried about damage when I went to pick them up as the boxes were damaged and had some holes in them. Inside a lot of the styrofoam was broken but didn't find any damage to the speakers.

But as I tried to pull the "sock" off of one it was stuck to the speaker??

Turns out there is a bad spot on the finish, not sure of the cause??

Hard to get a good photo, see below.

    faxevwrs3c1f.png

At some point it was exposed to too much heat causing the finish to soften and allowing the fabric to leave a press mark. When it cooled back down the fabric was stuck to the finish. It's not uncommon and can be repaired by a professional. However, I'm sure Polk will replace it for you.

I did the db840 mod myself so I have experience before and after.

I loved my 15's. It was the first speaker that made me say wow. The sub mod was a definite improvement and a no-brainer for the price. It wasn't mind-blowing, like adding a dedicated sub or anything, but it definitely tightened up the bottom end while still maintaining solid LF response.

The 705's didn't blow me away like the 15's did (granted it was a much smaller incremental step moving from 15's to 705's than Monitor 70's to the 15's), however they kept the character of the top that I loved so much, solidified the bass even more and then everything else in between just filled out so much more.

Well I just got off the phone with Adorama and they are going to replace the speaker. Now the issue is I have to ship it back, they receive it and then ship out the replacement...

I really don't want to wait, but I understand it...

I even told them it wasn't damaged in shipment and appeared to be a defect and they still said they would replace it. Good customer service, just having to wait.... :'(

good news, but too bad no cross-shipping! I'm presuming you did ask?
would there way a way for you to buy a second one and just get a refund on the returned one so you don't lose too much time?

are they covering the return shipping?

I didn't ask about cross shipping, I may call back and try, but I am sure I would have to pay again. I don't mind as long as I get the refund.

They are covering the shipping, already sent me a return shipping label, very fast!!

I can't tell from the pic, are they toed in slightly to your listening position? Actually I think the suggestion is just past your listening position, to a point right behind your head. They should be and it did make a big difference for me for sure.

Congrats by the way - beautiful setup.

First of all that's a sweet room...but large
Your sweet spot is 7'-9' from those speakers, slight toe-in (you'll have to play)
    Move speakers up 6"

I have done plenty of shows.
Set-ups in my home...I have a large room like yours where I set up my Dynaudio C4's because I needed a large speaker for the space after other failed to do the room justice

14' back is to far and when you have chance move into the spots around 8'-9' and you'll see what I'm talking about. Align the tweeters just a few inches outside your ears like Mrbuhl mentioned
