I understand what you're saying Tony, but you're showing the finish on a $20,000 speaker.

You have to decide, for the $$ set aside for finish, what's better; really cheap wood finish or a really nice vinyl? Really nice Vinyl finishes have come a long way the last few years.

Besides, what I've seen from friends and family in the target age group, they will (or do) love the looks of the signature series.

Just look at the Andrew Jones speakers, they are seriously lacking in the looks department, but if they sound good for the $$, people will scoop them up FAST.

If Polk can produce something that sounds as good, or better, in a better looking package it could be a big seller.

I said, not to that extent because of the price differences in targeted audience, but simply showing design and color options. The on going questions relate to cabinets and colors....just an example. A happy medium obviously within Polks budgets is the goal.

They are looking for idea's, which we can provide our own likes and dislikes, then they will figure out their own designs and what is feasible on their budgets to hopefully address some of our concerns. If they put out a speaker that looked like those Legacy's at Polk prices.....they couldn't make them fast enough. We both know that's not happening though. lol

See....when you can please both men and women....you have a winner. ;)

Small bookies are often not in living rooms, big floorstanders are though so looks are more important because just sheer size draws attention to them. When bookies are in living rooms, then looks do come into play also. Nobody wants their 3k buck TV, in a room filled with nice furniture flanked by ugly speakers, no matter how good they sound.

I have always wondered, feasibility aside, why Polk doesn't step out from the crowded field of speaker makers and offer a type of build your own speaker thing.

I read this, and immediately thought of fun analogues...

"I wonder why, feasibility aside, Ford doesn't design an affordable electric pickup truck with amazing torque and HP comparable to a V8 engine."

"I wonder why, feasibility aside, cell phone manufacturers don't let you just order their latest phone model with only the features you want and no extras, with custom styling and easily transferable network compatibility."

Joking aside, I am sure Polk could do that for you, at a price reflective of a process that only attracts a few very high end speaker buffs motivated by nostalgia. I imagine the answer to your question is that for Polk to remain a big successful company they have to concentrate on the market that exists, which in large part goes to Best Buy(.com, or Amazon) to buy speakers alongside their TV.

I think those Aeris speakers are gorgeous too (I have for over a year), but despite that I recently bout LSIM 705s, a 706, and 702 F/Xs, and a good sub for a mere fraction of that cost. Why? Because I thought the LSiMs were good, high end speakers for my purpose and the whole system cost less than a fourth of what the Aeris's would cost for a 2.0 system. Besides, my wife, like many I wager, still wouldn't want a speaker the size of the Aeris in the den at all. 171 lbs a piece is a lot of speaker.

Some of the comments on this thread aren't necessarily commenting on the new speaker line, which doesn't target many forum readers, but rather Polk's direction as a company. I think it makes sense to wait until they bring out a new high end line or an RTiA/LSiM replacement to start posting Magico and Legacy speakers as comparisons. They need to be successful in this part of the market as well.

After all, they have a lot more mouths to feed than a company like Legacy, which can afford to serve only the economically gifted.

The LSIM's is a well designed speaker, won't take that away from them.

Guys, I'm not saying Polk should go down the same path as Legacy, just giving some examples of looks and cabinet finishes. Certainly many other brands can also fit in as examples too.

Point is, offer something that sets you apart from your competitors that will drive that "I gotta have it" factor. If you look around at various big box store brands, speakers all look the same, maybe with small variances.

I'm not up to speed on what's available today in laminate finishes, or costs for the more exotic. We can leave that to the masters at Polk to decide. Was always a fan of Salk's HT3 cabinet and finishes as well.

Not to bad. I am guessing these will be in the same price range as the RTIa line. The woofers appear to be similar to the rti's as well.

I believe it has already been stated by the OP that Polk is working towards a cleaner, good, better, best line-up. The recent T-series took the place of all the previous entry level series, the t, r, and monitor series. These will replace the TSi series. They will next have an RTiA replacement I believe...

So I guess with the LSiM you could say entry, good, better, and best..and these are going to be at the good level.

The grills have magnets built in, which snap onto the silver bolt heads, so they will not mess up the gloss black bezel. The outrigger feet are plastic with no accommodation for spikes. My understanding is if you want to use spikes Polk can provide a different set of outriggers.
