Basically what I'm trying to say is that the Rockports are better than the d2 overall especially at full tilt. But I usually play at low volumes and since the bowers highlight certain aspects of the spectrum, I find it more enjoyable at lower volumes.

And since the d3 are better than the d2, it's a no brainer.

    It is definitely.

And I quit. Ain't no more new speaks for this household.

I am glad that I had to take this route and end up back with bowers. It gives me clarity and peace of mind.

It is my sound, right or wrong.

And yes, it'll be a pita to bring these down and the d3 up.

Just one more time...and I'm content and done.

    Peace

No more. I did enough playing around with the Strads and the Aviors. Both superb speakers but I want something a little more my style. Time to be serious and call it a day. I did the best demo I could do, bought them and brought it in.

Time to move the meat and bring in the d3

Finally Jesse hits it on the head. Oy vey. After all these 7 pages posts of getting these giant crates, heaving them upstairs, connecting them to that gigantic Boulder amp your not happy w/ them. With me the only thing w/o hearing them is that they are gloss piano black and besides light white oak are the 2 speaker furniture finishes I don't like. I did hear B&W 802 diamonds connected to McIntosh monos and all mac gear. I know I heard a lot better for less and or 15K I thought there has to be better than those 802s. Maybe it was that English sound ? Are you like me a regretter, never satisfied until either getting punched in the face or wallet gets utterly depleted ?? Vandersteen 3a sigs or Quads probably not expensive enough for you .lol
Also wtf are we doing up on a Sunday morning this early

It's cool that you made a decision and that you were able to put in the time, effort, and research to make an informed decision.

I know that you've had some very respectable gear move through your audio journey.

While I agree with Jesse, it's your journey and no one can tell you how to go about it.

The Rockports are very good. But I like a little more forward soundstage and I get a bit more of that with the bowers. Not to say the Rockports are laid back, because they aren't.

I just prefer a more upfront and more forward stage. It gives me a more intimate experience of a small club. I like being part of the experience rather than watching it.

I had to go through this to learn, there was really no other way. It's not easy but it's the dedication to the craft.

And it's not that I am not happy with the Rockports, it's that there are varying degrees. Don't make it sound like I'm a miserable soul aimlessly buying gear.

And if I paid what I paid, I expect no compromise.

The easy way out was to go from d2 to d3, but I spoke to a few close friends and they basically advised me - buy the Rockports, see what you think, and go from there. If you go d3 after, you can say you did it with a clean conscience and tried as best you could.

    No regrets.

A few have asked, quick comparison.

In my opinion, the Rockport Avior would easily stand toe to toe against any of the new version Wilsons Alexia and lower without trouble.

Again, when I demoed Wilson's although I love the brand and I respect David wilson and his creations, just was not involving enough for me. But that's splitting hairs. I think Rockports and Wilson's are world class.

Honestly, it does nothing wrong except for preference. I have tried to find faults but I can't. Unlike the Strads in which I was able to find some faults in reproduction, the Rockports are just that good. But that said, for my ears, I think I'd have no issue putting a well powered 802d3 right up there.

Infinite money, I'd keep the Aviors. But I don't think I can afford to build and nor would I do it justice as a 2nd system.

They're all very good. I think the Aviors are the best speaker I have owned to date.
