Just out of curiosity did you ever get the AC-3 RF upgrade?
I didn't. I don't do AC-3 much through the LD player. Usually just stereo, so I didn't see the need.
@headrott
Do you watch movies or music videos mostly on your tank.........................I MEAN LD-S2?! -
This was one of the very first Compact Discs to come out when the format was introduced way back in 1982 (*it didn't come to America until 1983*)
VERY dynamic,which is why it was one of the first to show off what the CD and digital audio was capable of. Man those drums STILL have impact when you crank it up!! -

For some reason never explained this movie was available on Laserdisc as a Japan and US release in Dolby Digital EX 6.1 channel. As well as on DVD in DTS-ES 6.1 discreet. However the Dolby Digital DVD was only 5.1 channels ?!?!??
When the movie was originally theatrically released there was so much bass in the surround channels,they had to come up with some kind of new program to send the bass from the surround channels to the subwoofer in order to keep from blowing up the surrounds! Such things are old news nowadays, however right before the turn of the century this was new territory as discreet,digital surround sound was still less than a decade old. -
@rmpolk
If you look closely at the first pic in the other thread you will see behind the right speaker and above the Sunfire there is a heater vent. So my choices for equipment stands was basically made for me.They couldn't be side by side or low boy/wide. -

If memory serves my DVL-91 was going for $1600 new back in 1999 when I ended up buying my DVL-919 for $919 (*and that was a price matched discount*) -

I have to laugh at the guy's description/narrative.
"Dolby Pro-Logic better than AC-3"..."multiple trays...eliminate distortion". Sounds like a salesman who found a (decent) LD player "on the cheap" and just wants to flip it. The thing that makes the S2's so attractive is the thing that worries me: twice as many transports to go bad. Also, I wouldn't buy anything without an AC-3 RF out (I bought an out-board decoder a long time ago since they pulled them from AVR's), but that's just me.

I had a non audiophile friend over yesterday and I decided to use his ears to see if he could also hear a difference between the Oppo BDP-103 and the Pioneer Elite DVL-91/Meridian 519 combo. He heard all of the same things that I did.
Then here's the kicker.
He went into another room (*THIS part was HIS idea*) and asked me to play the same track again and this time don't tell him which player was playing the disc.
HE HEARD A DIFFERENCE!
Make no mistake,I am in no way disparaging the Oppo. This is a KICKA$$ Blu-ray player!!
However the high jitter in HDMI connections is something that the Oppo cannot overcome. Nothing beats it when it comes to flexibility and streaming capabilities though. Anything that my PS3 Slim won't play,the Oppo will play.
However when it comes to Redbook CD's,the Pioneer/Meridian combo and the reclocking circuit in the Meridian is the King of the hill at my address. -
@StantonZ
I'm with you about the Used Car Salesman bit on the LDS2
That tank............................. I mean PLAYER stands on it's own without all of that BS that he is spreading all over the bread -
