I had two LD players and even subscribed to the Laser Disk Newsletter. The LDN had unusual reviews with more of a technical perspective. They would even review some X-rated movies with comments like you can hear the director giving instructions in the back ground if you turn it up. Miss the LDN.
This topic makes me want to get a Elite LD player but I still have a working Pioneer LD-808D hooked up and still in the equipment rack with 30 LDs. I put in a few LDs but the picture was just so so and didn't hold up well to todays picture. Neither do I.

I used to own that LD and it was one of my favorite AC-3 titles. That was one of the last "movie nights" I had for my work friends, and they still talk about how good it sounded (they weren't used to DD5.1 sound).Yamaha RX-A2050 AVR (5.0.2); LG OLED77C2 4K TV(4) Polk Monitor 10B's w/SoniCaps, Mills, and RDO-194 tweets (R/L F/R)(2) Polk RC80i (Top Middle)Polk CS300 center channelAnalog: B&O TX2 Turntable, Nakamichi Cassette Deck 1Digital: Pioneer CLD-99 Elite LD, Panasonic DMP-UB900 UHD Blu-RayBedroom: Arylic Up2Stream AMPv3 driving Polk Monitor 4's w/peerless tweets -

Now that the final three chapters of the Star Wars saga are coming out, I say get it again and this time KEEP IT. They're all over the place on eBay and lddb.com for not a lot of money.
It's NOT DD5.1 just to be clear.
This one and Austin Powers are the easiest to get out of the DD6.1channel Laserdisc titles.

Just out of curiosity did you ever get the AC-3 RF upgrade?
I didn't. I don't do AC-3 much through the LD player. Usually just stereo, so I didn't see the need.
@headrott
Do you watch movies or music videos mostly on your tank.........................I MEAN LD-S2?!
Mostly music videos now on the LD-S2. But I watch some movies (like Star Wars ep. 4-6) on the LD-S2 as well....
Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

You should hear what the remastered versions of the original Star Wars trilogy sound like on Laserdisc in 5.1 Dolby Digital!
Nevermind what Episode I sounds like in 6.1 Dolby EX -

I don't like the added footage used in these episodes. I'll take crappy sound/picture, but a better movie, IMO.
I believe there is one version on LD with the original versions (unaltered) but 5.1 audio isn't there? I don't own them.

MAYBE a Japan only version.
Not entirely sure, because once they were remastered and had the new footage added George Lucas said these would be the LAST versions he would ever release.
I have both the remastered box set in 5.1 and the original box set in Dolby Surround. -

The original version box set.
The remastered versions are the versions that Lucas claimed he would have released IF he had the money and the time way back when.

I don't like the "special editions" either...and I really hate what they did to Episode 4. I don't believe a 5.1 version of the original (unaltered) versions exist; I own the original Dolby Surround version (which isn't bad for matrixed sound).

OMG!!
That reminds me of my Realistic receiver that had been giving me problems and was in and out of the shop. When they FINALLY fixed the problem and I picked it up,it fell off of the roof of my sisters car!! -

I will agree with you about the matrixed surround soundtrack being quite good. However I will have to disagree about the special editions. I think they are just better overall AND the 5.1 surround blows away the matrixed surround on top of that.
So we can respectfully agree to disagree then? -
