Eight of the only nine titles released on Laserdisc in 6.1 channel Dolby Digital EX
The last one is Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Sixth Day. Which was one of the last titles to be released on Laserdisc in 2001. It was a Japan only release, which is why it is so hard to find (*and so ridiculously expensive when you can*) Ironically I found out about it the very day I FINALLY got my greasy grabbers on End of Days.
I had been under the mistaken impression that there were only eight titles in Dolby EX only to discover quite by accident on lddb.com after two years of searching high and low and successfully procuring the eight that there actually were nine -
Remembering why I have been such a fan of this label for decades.
The bass drum WHACKS on this disc could easily blow your woofers with lesser amps or loudspeakers. Telarc became well known for finally marrying excellent performances with world class digital sound quality bar none (*two things that had been largely mutually exclusive until they came along and consistently married them*) They used no compression, limiting or equalization. I just heard this disc for the first time again like I have NEVER heard it before!!
This Pioneer Elite DVL-91/Meridian 509 combo effing ROCKS! -
WOW
This one is up for sale on eBay now for a LOT of money

A lot of the telarc discs mention how they are recorded.
The care in recording and equipment help explain why they
sound so good to me...
Sadly they use monster cable.honestaquarian wrote: »

Oy there juss ain't no pleezing yew is there????
-
To be honest, I have no experience with monster pro cables.
No offense. And I don't want another cable fire storm. If
someone finds their sweet spot with a coat hanger or a
10,000 dollar cable I'm good with it. Peace. -
I'm really glad you posted those LD titles HA. Got something to look for now
-
BTW, if I find that elusive title, it is yours.
-
Well good luck hunting
As I said it took me two solid years of hunting to get all of them. he Austin Powers and Star wars were the easiest. They're everywhere on eBay and lddb.com,however the others not so much depending on the day or week.
Expensive too!
http://www.lddb.com/list.php?format=ld&list=ex
This is the list of 6.1 titles.Click on each and you can see if anyone has one for sale there. -
Thanks
However when you look at what it is going for on lddb.com you will forgive my skepticism -
I just did.
You doubt the king of dollar media? -
@rednedtugent IF you can find the sixth day and give it to me I will be ETERNALLY GREATFUL (*dead*)
-
Another Telarc CD that I've had for a good thirty years(*you can tell by the water stains on the back*)
Tracks 7 and 13 make for good SDA demo material -
Anyone remember what used to the Ubiquitous Pierre Verany test CD's that EVERYONE used to use to test anything that played CD's?(*including Laserdisc Players*)
No those aren't scratches
They are sections that test a CD player's data interpolation capabilities with damaged or scratched CD's. They purposefully left out increasingly larger sections of information to see which track would trip up the player. -
-
Thks has some admittedly pretty cheasy disco tracks, but it makes for great SDA demo music! -

I guess LDPs have gone the way of really great cassette players.
There are some hard core fans but why? I plugged in my
player a while back and it was like watching VHS!
My thoughts are that LD's are not nearly the resolution of BD's, but there are titles available on LD's that have not and most likely will never come out on DVD or BD. That's why I still have mine.
BTW, I have a Pioneer LD-S2, which IMO is the best LD player ever made. This player will outlast any other optical movie disc player on the planet, IMO.
Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

I didn't. I don't do AC-3 much through the LD player. Usually just stereo, so I didn't see the need.
