I have one and can see why this was considered to be THE BEST AC-3 RF Demodulator made.
See previous posts about the differences heard between my Blu-ray player and my DVL-91 with this unit. -

@xjghost
Post a pic of the front and rear of the jacket so I can have a better idea of what you're dealing with. -
Since you said video hits (plural) I will assume it's not a 5" CDV.
Next question is is it an 8" or 12" disc?
Jaoan used the NTSC system like America, so it may just be a defective disc. -
Oh and then there is the issue of whether or not it has digital sound and if not do you have your analog outs hooked up?

12" LD http://www.ebay.com/itm/HUEY-LEWIS-HUEY-LEWIS-AND-THE-NEWS-VIDEO-HITS-TOLW3048-OBI-LD-EA7148-/371605057537?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&nma=true&si=SjkXt77dQ1RJImTJlWJUbB2M87U%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc I'll have to check on the analog outs. The I checked my player operation with the Cheap Trick and Dire Straights LD's and they both worked fine. I'm hoping to upgrade at some point to a DVL - 90 or 91.HT/2Channel: Emotiva MMC-1, Adcom GFA-555II, Polk SDA 3.1's, Teac TN-300 TT, Polk Center and Sub.

I can't see whether or not it has digital sound from my phone. I'll have to take another look when I get home from the computer. I did however see the CX encoding label. CX is an analog noise reduction system developed by CBS. It was widely used on the analog soundtracks on Laserdiscs and briefly on other media. Although I cannot recall which,because this was a long time ago in a galaxy far,far away. It never really caught on beyond Laserdiscs though. Audiophiles said it flattened the soundstage on audio recordings.
ANYWAY the disc definitely does have analog audio and that could be what your issue is. Check the jacket for a DIGITAL SOUND label and if it ain't there.
There you have it! -
Remind me again which player you currently have?
BTW just so ya know the DVL-90 is based on the DVL-700 and the DVL-91 is based on either the DVL-909 or DVL-919. Not sure which as both players looked identical and I never knew what the difference was. The 919 was the last one. The 700 was the first one (*of the DVD/Laserdisc combi players*) and the 909 was in between the two. -
@xjghost
That disc does not have digital sound.It's analog only.
