where might I find one of this elite LD players without trading two NADs?
-
Don't know if I mentioned that I freed up some WireWorld Solstice 7 RCA
that I'm using on the LDP instead of cheapO RCAs. Digging it. -
I got mine on eBay after passing through two others.
I owned the non Elite version of this one for over a decade. The DVL-919
Then I found a DVL-700 and bought it,but immediately after I made the purchase I found an Elite DVL-90. Then I sent the 700 back and got a refund. I had a funny feeling that I got the wrong one and did some research. Then I realized it was the Elite DVL-91 that was the last one they made and not the 90. So once I found this one I sold the 90.
I had to be patient, because I wanted one with the new Pioneer logo and one that was manufactured in 2000. I also didn't want one that had a bidding war going on,but was in good condition with the box and remote. -
Thanks buddy. I was on the 91 trail for a few years but gave up. This info
brings it back. I got rid of most of my LD's but kept about 40...
I'm tempted to start modding this one but I won't tell anybody what
I do. -
Waaaaay back in 1999 when I bought my DVL-919 I REALLY wanted a DVL-91. Problem was it quite literally cost twice as much as the 919. Once I got this baby home finally a decade and a half later and hooked it up,I IMMEDIATLY saw why.
I had completely forgotten the model numbers in the ensuing decade and a half, which is why I ended up buying a DVL-90. Once I got it home and saw the faceplate and realized it was the Elite version of the DVL-700 (*two models before the 919*)I had to start trying to remember which one it was that I really wanted and thought that I was buying. As soon as I started seeing the 91's pop up on eBay and saw that the faceplate was the same as the 919,but with the fancy wooden side panels,I began scheming on how to get one. That is also when I began noticing some of the DVL-91's up for sale had the old Pioneer logo and some had the new one. Since my 919 had the new logo,I HAD TO get a 91 with the new logo. That also meant looking at the build dates on the back of the units. My 919 was built in 1999,so realized I needed to find a 91 that was built that year or later after paying close attention to the build dates versus which logo the units up for sale had on them. So I came to the conclusion that I needed to get one built in its last year of production, which was 2000 (*also the last year they produced Laserdiscs in the USA. 2001 was the last year in Japan, where this format was far more popular*)
So after doing my homework and waiting patiently, I got exactly what I wanted on eBay and as you can see am VERY HAPPY with it. -
@rednedtugent
Check out lddb.com
You can find just about any Laserdisc you ever wanted there. Most are being sold by someone on that site kinda like Videogon or Audiogon.
I finally found the last of the only 9 titles om Laser that had a Dolby EX 6.1 soundtrack there. However it is also one of the last Lasers to come out in 2001 amd the sellers want an effing mint for the copies they are selling! !
Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Sixth Day. The lowest asking price is 1500 or best offer!!!

Wow! Thanks HA!!
"Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Sixth Day. The lowest asking price is 1500 or best offer!!!"
I did pick up a Kate Bush LD (which I had last seen when it came out)
and Mike Oldfield 'Tubular Bells II.'
Listening to Klaus Schulze 'Dune" CD
LD -> WW RCA cable -> Denon 4520ci (pure direct) -> Emo xsp-1 (HT bypass)
-> amp -> Polk 703's and it sounds good to me.

BTW,
if you have any titles you are on the lookout for... -
There were other good Elite LD players in the late 90's, but I know for a fact that my CLD-99 was one those made towards the end. While I use it for CD's (and it does sound great), the ability to play CD quality FLAC files via USB with new AVRs sounds just about as good (and is a lot more convenient once you have the files).Yamaha RX-A2050 AVR (5.0.2); LG OLED77C2 4K TV(4) Polk Monitor 10B's w/SoniCaps, Mills, and RDO-194 tweets (R/L F/R)(2) Polk RC80i (Top Middle)Polk CS300 center channelAnalog: B&O TX2 Turntable, Nakamichi Cassette Deck 1Digital: Pioneer CLD-99 Elite LD, Panasonic DMP-UB900 UHD Blu-RayBedroom: Arylic Up2Stream AMPv3 driving Polk Monitor 4's w/peerless tweets

Just the Sixth day. That's the only one I'm on the lookout for.

The CLD-99 was a TANK
I also had gotten used to streaming files to my preamp and my Oppo over my network. It's more convenient like you say. However I have rediscovered the joys of getting off of my tuckas and actually popping the CD into the transport, because it just sounds better! -
A newer LD player is on my list of wants.....HT/2Channel: Emotiva MMC-1, Adcom GFA-555II, Polk SDA 3.1's, Teac TN-300 TT, Polk Center and Sub.

Truth be told, I had to have the transport replaced on my "tank" (good thing Elite players had longer warranties) way back when. I think they had a bad batch of spindle motors at one point (the repair guy said he'd seen a few).

I had the transport replaced in my DVL-919 (*see previous comments about my older players*) and then sold it on eBay when I decided to change course. They had the thing for an entire year and changed the transport and then the wiring harness. The skipping problem that brought it to the shop kept coming back. So after all of that I decided to get another player and wound up going through two before I landed the one you see in the pic I posted.

Hey @rednedtugent
Is that you selling a Carver C-4000t preamp on eBay? -
Remember CD3's???
It'll play'em -
Remember 5" CD-Video's (*not to be confused with the Video CD which was a totally different format that essentially never happened in America. Likely because it SUCKED*)
Anyway Yep it'll play'em! -
-
12" Laserdiscs encoded with Dolby Digital EX 6.1?

12" Laserdiscs encoded with DTS 5.1?
