THE best AC-3 RF demodulator ever made!
This is the one with the reclocking circuitry built in to lower jitter and it works! -

I have threads w/ hundreds of posts that I do not read.
Why not try that? -
-
so you need some kind a converter to use the optical out right?
The meridian does the trick? -
@rednedtugent
No
Your receiver or processor will have an optical digital input. The Meridian is a Dolby AC-3 RF demodulator. It allows you to be able to decode the Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks on the Laserdisc. Because it has a reclocking circuit,it significantly lowers jitter (*which Laserdiscs are known to have lots of*) to give you cleaner sound and it WORKS!
My discs from 3" to 12" ALL sound better with it in the signal path.
BTW both of the functioning Meridians on eBay have been sold. There is one non functioning unit that is still up for sale and he is asking for too much for it. -
P.S. YES you could use the Meridian to convert the Optical to RCA. However the odds that you don't have an optical in are far less likely than not having an RCA digital input.

This is the non functioning one.

thanks HA and @nightfall!
I thought I read somewhere that the old optical was a diff signal
and needed a convertor. Thanks for the correction.
So the 97 seems to be the player to get... -
@rednedtugent
The CLD-97 doesn't have an AC-3 RF out just so's you know. The thing is a TANK though. If you're looking for something that has an AC-3. RF out then the CLD-99 which is the player that replaced it is the way to go. They used to have kits that you could have installed to upgrade them,but good luck trying to find one of those now. Every so often you can find a CLD-97 up for sale with the mod. I may even have posted a link to one of those auctions. However they are ridiculously expensive and rare. -

@StantonZ
Was it one of the special editions?
They released it letterboxed and pan & scan. The reviewers all said get the pan & scan for some reason. I just couldn't and got the letterbox. -

I believe it was, because I had to "re-buy" it (originally had the non AC-3 version). I'm allergic to pan & scan.
What kills me is how much we used to pay for these things...especially the box sets...and now they're worth like $1.
