Germany is the team to beat imho. If you can beat them, you'll be the next champ. Brazil doesn't have the tools to go all the way, and the USA is hanging by a thread.

Now.....wtf was up with that bite on the shoulder of the Italian player ? Dude should have been kicked out for that as this wasn't his first offense. Biting another player ? Who does that....aside from Mike Tyson ?

    That many ? Really ?

Takes the mentality of a 1st grader to result to biting an opponent. I guess childish behavior in professional sports is nothing new anyway.

The thing about Suarez, aka "The Biter", is he wasn't involved in a fight when he bit the Italian, there was no scuffle. The victim had his back to him and was walking away - The Biter snuck up behind him. Then he acted like he almost had his teeth knocked out from the defensive elbow thrown when replay clearly showed that the elbow barely grazed his face. Too bad it didn't make a solid connection!

Wonder if people he bites turn into Uruguayans

    Wow!
    Respect to the Netherlands!
What a game in coming from behind to beat Mexico in pretty much the last 10 mins of the game.

    Tough loss by El Tri.

    Outstanding game.

Another thing that made Suarez stand out from the rest of the biters was that he already bit 3 players, one in Holland when he played for Ajax Amsterdam, one in England as a Liverpool player, and now one in Brazil in the freaking World Cup!

It was definitely a tough loss by Mexico (El Tri) but they have no one to blame but themselves. The refs should not have awarded a penalty shot but the game never should have come down to that. Mexico lost the game because they got too conservative/defensive after they scored and, from that point on, they played not to lose rather than to win. You could see it coming. It was one Netherlands corner kick after another in the last 25 minutes of the game and it was just a matter of time before Netherlands scored.
But it is a shame that the ref decided the game rather than letting it go an extra 30 minutes and/or penalty kicks.

I really wanted to see Mexico play Costa Rica and possibly the US later on but that won't happen.

Mexico just can't seem to get past the round of 16. This is the 5th straight loss in the round of 16 for Mexico in the World Cup.

I am really looking forward to the US/Belgium game tomorrow. I hope the US can pull it off and set up a possible showdown with Argentina!

Certainly a tough way to go out.

And yes,Mexico became their own worse enemy after they scored the first goal.
The penalty call towards the end of regulation really blew my mind.

Apparently Arjen Robben has a reputation for diving in the penalty box.
Most players would have done the same.

This is where the response of the ref is really crucial.
Too bad the dive was not seen for what it was

The goalie for Algeria is having himself quite a day. Both goalies have played extremely well, the guy from Germany has some stones for sure coming way out onto the field so many times. Beyond that, Algeria looks clearly outmatched by Germany, this game should not be this close...

It's this close because Germany didn't play well at all. Algeria got plenty of chances during the first half, and Germany played too slowly until the extra time. Andre Schurle, one of Germany's replacement, helped change the pace a bit.
German soccer is famous for their discipline, and they were quite out of it when letting the opponent score within seconds after they scored their own. All in all it's a bad game for them.

After seeing the round of 16 matches so far and how difficult it has been for everybody, I'm hoping Argentina to go through... I think it is clear by now that all the teams that made it to this round could have advanced to quarter finals! If Argentina pulls it off tomorrow, I don't see a reason why they couldn't go all the way. ( I'll keep my fingers crossed )

I would be shocked if Argentina does not see of Switzerland.

Anyways i am looking forward to the US V Belgium.
Personally i think the US has already exceeded expectation.

Anything less than getting out of the group stage, would have been seen as a failure somewhat.
Getting out of the Group of Death was HUGE!

    Now we want MORE!!!!

The Belgians are considered the dark horse of this tournament with an outside chance of winning it all.
I would not be surprised if they derail the US train any more than i would be surprised if the US pulls off an upset.

My one and only hope is that the actions of the ref does not influence the outcome of this game!!
I have seen one too many dubious calls already.

Here is hoping the US surmount this hurdle.

Great game for sure, obviously the outcome sucked for us...

it was a good run for the US, better than most predicted. Howard had a brilliant game, but one guy can only do so much. The US team was pretty clearly outmatched by the Belgium group overall, but they had their chances and it was nice to see them fight to the end and good to see that kid get a goal.

US missed a game winning goal right before the 93 minute before extension. Howard was phenomenal, but you need more talent than just the goalie.

Now is time to concentrate on American Football! Damn I just spelt it futbol. All kidding aside, I grew up playing soccer. The same mentality could be said for Olympics. I am still bummed from Mexico's lost. Ultimately it will take more than a one talent team, such as Brazils Neymar or Argentina's Messi, etc.

One of the best parts is in most part the game was clean excellent sportsmanship and the ref's didn't go crazy most of the game except at the end, looked like they favored the U.S. in the final couple minutes.

Until the over time the US team was very sloppy on their crosses to goal eliminating chances to score the few times they had.

I have been following Football since the off-season began for my Vikings. There has been much to watch this year, from a stadium "collapsing" for the last time, to a coach being fired and all that goes with it. Not saying that this season looks better than last, but I do think they are better off and I think they will at least be fun to watch.

Not to deviate far, but the only thing good for the Vikings the past decade was Adrian Peterson. Followed him since college (hard core Sooners).

This weekend will be interesting. I say France over Germany, Holland over Costa Rica, dont know about Brazil or Argentina. Either way, this will be a great 4th!

If only the us team would have started earlier playing like the last 10 minutes being 2 down...

I think that has been a theme throughout this round, not just for the US.

I still cannot get my head around Argentina's performance... As if we didn't have good players. It's not healthy to watch them play

Personally, I don't think France is all that good. Argentina and Germany are the top teams in this World cup imho. Every team has weaknesses, even the Germans, thing is everyone else has bigger weaknesses which makes the Germans look like super stars. Don't get me wrong either, the Germans are an elite team and well deserving, but competition seems a tad on the scarce side.

As much as I would like to believe you with respect to Argentina, I am afraid they have not played well... (IMO of course) if Belgium has as many chances as they had against the US they will be in trouble. One can only afford to be weak defending if one scores goals consistently and that has not been the case!
