@WLDock I need 4 inches of clearance so the SVS and Parts Express stuff wont work.
Given the industrial finish I am going with a am thinking wooden furniture legs will likely work best, like what I posted above. They are not super expensive, will work with the design (since they will have duratex on them as well) and provide enough height.
I just have to wait to see what kind of spacing I have once the kit comes in as there is not a measurement I know of for the spacing between the port and the corners of the enclosure."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Looks like you have about a 3" square at each corner. Should open up options in terms of a larger square diameter at the top for added stability. Like this one:

I agree.... I also got a guy who knows a how to craft some stuff.. both (cough, ryan, cough) and another guy in Cali who might be able to help me make some on the cheap as well."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." I'm slow like a tortoise at things like this but...
Enclosure FlatPack is sitting at work and will be taken home tonight. I purchased some TiteBond and glue brushes (thanks @f1nut ) to help me put things together.
I need to get to Harbor Freight to get some other supplies as well. My final parts list is below (thanks @ZLTFUL & @F1Nut):
2 x 1 In x 15 Ft. Ratcheting Band Clamp
4 x 24 in. Quick Release Bar Clamp
1 x 2" thick Eggcrate foam mattress pad - surprisingly Amazon is like 1/2 what Walmart is on these....
1 x Duratex
Thats it, the rest has all been purchased and is sitting at my house waiting and waiting and waiting...
I plan to build the enclosure slowly and anywhere I can seal joints with locktite after they are glued together and dried. I figure I've got 2 extra bottles of it with nothing else to use it on, so why not make sure this baby is airtight. I want to do this once and be done lol....
Once I get to actual assembly stuff I will post some pictures...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Can't wait to see this monster....

Can't wait to see this monster....
I cant wait to DIAL this monster in!
I may have to send the wife shopping for shoes with the kido or something lol....
My goal is a noise complaint hehehe.....

That Titebond glue is fantastic. I used it on my recent build.

Why the egg crate foam Enders?

Dunno it was recommended by the guys in AVSForum with this build
See quote (link here)For ported sub lining can be helpful but other then the back wall its debatable how much differeance it makes. I line mine cuz the bed topper from walmart is cheap and its another way to ensure the cab has no leaks. If the foam cost was over 50$ I probably wouldnt use it.
Interesting back and forth from the same guy (below) about downfiring in different rooms, may have to test my setup both ways before I finalize the design with the legs added. He used REW so I may ask him to post some graphs...
I also may just try to find a nice piece of wood to test a bottom plate so it not directly onto the carpet...After a whole day of testing my down firing martycube I have come to the conclusion that it is not the best arrangement for this driver and box.
When down firing the effective tune is lowered which would normally be a good thing but it also caused a loss of output between 20-40hz which is the meat of your fun movie bass. When this very same box was flipped so the driver was facing straight up the response was much better and matched the model. This was tested with a calibrated umik1 with rew. Tested on two different carpets in two different rooms. The results might change depending on how high the driver is raised off the ground but I didn't test that. My recommendation would be to run the ports out of a different side if you plan to use the down firing setup.
As a side note. Subjectively I like the sound better without all of the foam lining the walls of the cab. Rew showed no meaningful difference but to me the bass sounded crisper with only the back wall lined. I can't prove it but my ears like it.
So my cube is now up firing with only the back wall lined. I took a day off work and spent 8 hours testing. I had to dump the rew measurements three times because I used all of the available graph spots.
SEE POST 423 FOR UPDATEDon't get me wrong, it sounds good down firing. But it sounds better firing up. I'm suggesting moving the ports to a side not firing directly into the floor. I'm sure the driver is fine facing down. Almost all down firing designs by commercial manufacturers have the port facing either the front or back. It appears the area under the box is adding to the effective length of the ports. I am enjoying this sub, but I need to add a grill of some kind now. The legs should help form a good frame for whatever I come up with.Moved the cube into my basement and the results were quite different. The arrangement of the sub didn't make hardy any difference at all. So, I'm not sure what kind of conclusion can be made by my tests. The only other difference besides the room is the avr used.
Down firing may work just fine.
I would like to try to duplicate my results in the living room, but moving this thing up and down stairs by myself is not easy. Coming down wasn't too bad, but going back up sucks.Upstairs is 3/4" shag carpet on a wood floor. Basement is a tight flat carpet on cement floor.
The nearfield measurement in the basement with the mic placed right under the cube was the flattest response I've ever generated. It was almost a perfect match to the model from 15-80hz with no ripple or bumps at all. It was also alot louder than the mic placed 10 feet away.
Has anyone ever considered placing the sub firing directly into the back of their head? The frequency response would be perfect.

May I suggest eye protection and a corset? Keep the blood vessels intact and the internal organs in the right place when that thing goes off
I'm sure I'll hear some sort of insane thump over the horizon.. -
Just scrolled back to the pic of the Dew can next to it..WOW!

Is this done yet? I feel like I've been waiting forever.

Liked Cody's comment.
@codyc1ark I gave him an open invitation to come up so we can assemble it but he keeps whining about sand in his vajayjay and stuff."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

OK, back to the original topic, I may have found someone closer to help me get it together so I dont have to buy a bunch of clamps and whatnot for this. As a side benefit he's got some leftover 4x4 Roxul panels from his HT he may be willing to donate (and help me build out some quick frames for).
Sorry Ryan, I appreciate the offer but, the drive out to you is a hard sell to my wife lol..... Plus then I'd be close to Cody...... and that just killed it for me :grimacing: .
I am trying to hammer some stuff down and see if its possible to get that to happen.
Otherwise I will be stopping at Harbor Freight and snagging 6 24" clamps give or take."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
So bumping this thread.....
A buddy of mine in Evansville (who was going to help me fab the enclosure originally) and I have been talking for a couple weeks and we got tomorrow on the calendar for coming down and getting my enclosure built.
He's got access to lots of clamps and anything else we would need.
And he's also built me 4 sound panels to take back with me to Indy to cover with whatever fabric I want. Yeah, he's cool like that.
Tomorrow in addition to putting together the enclosure, I'm walking him through how to rip movies to a external Hard drive you can access through the WD Live TV.
For those of you interested here is a link to what I am talking about. As far as ease of use, couldn't get easier and my wife and family love it as its easy to see what movies we have, the movie skips the previews and any special features, and I only have the highest codec loaded.
Overall for those of you who have gone digital, if your collection isnt INSANE with blu-rays, this is a cool setup and cost you all of 200 bucks for the lot. If your collection is massive maybe rip JUST the movies you watch lots to a hard drive, and leave the rest in your library. Or copy Ryan (like I will eventually) and build a dedicated media server .
Anyway looking forward to a early wake-up tomorrow to go hang out with my buddy for most of the day, get my enclosure built, talk audio and see his awesome DIY speakers that were awesome to watch build."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Just got back. Will post some pics later tonight. Enclosure is all together at his place with weights on the baffle and lots of clamps on it.
We will get the finish done later along with the bottom base. We got the binding post holes routed and everything figured out."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Here are some pics in no particular order. I focused more on hanging out with Chris and building than taking pictures, so apologies for a not fully step by step pictures.

I read, or should I say, browsed the pictures in Chris' build thread. That guy has some talent! I hope you learned a thing or two while being in his presence
Keep us posted.Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -

Chris just sent these to me....
He said he's got the holes, corners and joints all filled. Furniture nuts are inserted into the baffle. He's thinking about putting the round-over on all the edges tonight.
We are still thinking about how to make a nice base.
