Joni Mitchell, "Blue" - 180 gm LP, Reprise 74842
I didn't know what I was missing all these years! This is one really great album. The vinyl is dead quiet.
I too love it. It's one of the two most upliftingly depressing albums in recording history....

As for me... from the latest BMG brown box....

Lester & Chester - Les Paul and Chet Atkins

    g81005cxuox.jpg

The material may be seriously dated, but the playing is seriously serious. Recording seems to be a collection of raw studio cuts of two friends having a good time. It's complete with the two gabbing and on a track or two "working out an intro".
    More later,
    Tour...

    Booker T. & the M.G.'s - McLemore Avenue
    1970, Stax STS-2027, R2R

Fun covers of (now) well-known Beatles tunes like only the Muscle Shoals crew could do. T's keyboards and Cropper's guitar work are strong and steady as usual and handle the material easily.

Kicking back on the office rig.

Tori Amos - American Doll Posse

Paul Simon - Concert in the Park

    143441.jpg

A simply outstanding recording and an even better performance by over 15 artists on stage in Central Park for a free concert in 1991. If you only own one Paul Simon piece of music this is the one.

Simon is accompanied by an astounding band that brings together New York studio vets, South African musicians and a Brazilian percussion group, and the result is an elegant, panoramic, cross-cultural sound. Simon's older material is reinterpreted and successfully redefined in the process.

Traffic, "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys;" Island Records 90026-1 Awesome music, 36 years later even without the black afghan hash.:D

Jethro Tull, "Benefit;" Horribly compressed and not one of Tull's best efforts.

A 3 lp Simply Vinyl set of their best stuff, including live versions. Great sound quality, very quiet and a good transfer, IMO. I always use "Aqua Boogie" as one of the songs I'll play for people who haven't heard SDA's.

Darla, it’s typical Tori Amos with the same type of piano sound and the same cadence in her voice. It’s a bit less spastic than some of her other releases. Some have said the production is a bit stripped down and sparse, I would agree (a good thing). It’s certainly a bit more upbeat and aggressive than her last release “The Bee Keeper”. In the grand scheme of Tori, you can’t mistake it for being her but at the same time it’s a bit gentler than earlier angst driven stuff.

If you are a casual fan or hardcore fan I recommend it. A solid 3.5 out of 5 IMO.

Pink Floyd, "Animals;" LP Columbia JC 34474

It's amazing how on a lesser rig or the radio, the dogs sound like dogs. On a better rig you realize the dogs sounds are instruments and electronically done.

    Another great SDA showcase.

just opened a sealed pressing of The Lonesome Jubilee by John Mellencamp

Ooooo I never had this on CD... but a friend gave me this sealed vinyl and i'm digging it hard. Wow.. this has got to be his at least 2nd or 3rd top album. It really rocks and captures him at the height of his career.

    most excellent recording.

vinyl lovers, get yourself a sealed copy and sit back and rock out and enjoy.

Listening again and this is quite a piece of work. Not everyones cup of tea, but certainly a bunch of artsy musicians.

Varied sound quality also. Some sound like a studio production and others sound like a basement production, but I guess that is the artsy cool thing to do.
