Well good sir, you are entitled to your opinion. Should you be interested in some recommendations on the better side of rap, let me know.

There's a plain difference between the Jurasic 5's and Nelly's in the music industry.

I'm sorry but Gift of Gab, Lyrics Born, Blackalicious, Eyedea and Abilities have all been around and can be considered artist.

all these "rappers" are just in it for marketing and money. but the ones that don't sellout (IE the ones i mentioned above) should be considered artists.

Art is a very funny thing to discuss because everyone has a strong viewpoint.

I listen to everything from Bob Dylan to Tupac so obviously my opinion is going to be very different than that of MacLeod's...

    good night!

Ive nothing against rap really Ive actually been known to listen to a rap song once or twice but I take exception when theyre called musicians or artists.

Now R & B on the other hand I would consider music even tho the music is once agains electronically processed and sampled, at least there is somebody singing which takes talent (unless youre Ashlee Simpson).

It takes talent to write lyrics, make beats, and as far as flossing your riches goes. That is the persons business. It is entertainment, and it sells millions and millions of records nationwide, and also makes for good dancing at clubs and parties. Not to mention the money that is made by the artist. It is more likely based on your culture or background, where you grew up and the things that you encounter in life to be able to fully grasp the concept of Flossin' your riches. Kids look up to a lot of these positive role model type rappers. Rap/Hip-Hop was a positive outlet for a whole lot of kids that were once in trouble or jailed. That is the main reason that the rappers talk about what they have now, because some of them come from nothing. I am not a jealous person, and I am happy to see a poor person make it rich. If you see a kid and he looks at Nelly or Ludacris, he would turn to rapping to get paid, and therfore this would possibly be a positive outlet to keep them out of trouble moreso than make them sell "crack" or do something stupid of that sort. All rappers are not positive, and those guys should not be exposed to kids ears. I will admit that there are some a$$holes that call themselves artists, that I would never expose my kids to.

The sampling makes for a old school/new school twist. That is how the artists corner the market: get the old heads and the young people listening to a song with old school beats and put lyrics to it. It is genius if you ask me. I will admit that some of the artists screw up the song if they don't do it right.

Every man can call it how he sees it, but that doesn't make him right or wrong. Heck, I would not play Heavy Metal through my system, but I will not critisize it or anyone who likes it. I just don't understand it, therefore it gets no play by me. I could say it is stupid to trash your guitar and amps after a performance, but if your fans like it, hell tear it up! Music is a personal preference and to each his own.

Just my two cents. Carry on gents.

mainstream rap is just getting played out... they need something new or to bring someone new into the game... it's pathetic when John Cena sells more than someone like a Tech N9ne or any other underground rapper in the first week.

In retrospect, I will take back my claim that they are not artists.

As mentioned above art is very subjective and I am the LEAST artistic person in the world so I should be the last one to criticize someone artistic abilities. ;)

This one is a Top 10 pick in my blues collection. Features "White Boy Lost in the Blues" w/John Mayall, a humbling cover of Randy Newman's "Sail Away", and the haunting blues of "Jesus Gonna' Make It Alright" -- every cut a blues treasure.

Nearly 40 years of vinyl in the vault has been unsealed. I may never spin a CD again! :D

Bob Dylan/The Band - Before the Flood

Dylan's vocals sound like someone has him by the nads -- but, easily overlooked for Robbie's excellent guitar work and solid backing on this live, double recording.

Hamilton Loomis - All Fired Up and Live

Thanks to Tour2ma I have a copy and gave it a good listen last night and today. This artist is part of Tour's signature and he has been promoting him on this forum.

Because of that, I feel a mini review is in order.

Musically, Loomis delivers. Excellent skills and he obviously has a very good Texas blues, rock, funk pedigree. He has a decent voice that works ok with this genre. Having said that...he needs to let someone else help with the lyrics (he has writing credit for them all). Listening to any one song individually and the lyrics are fine.

The problem is that EVERY song is about:

    - She loved me good
    - She loved me bad
    - I just found love
    - I just lost love
    - I've got no love
    - She's my new love
    - She's leaving me
    - I'm gettin' laid
    - I'm not gettin' laid
    - etc....

Just a wee bit one dimensional IMO. I understand that this is THE BLUES...and that he's a guy in his twenties...but please....could we have something about his dog dying, or his boss is a jerk, or his landlord kicking him out, or the weather, or even politics....just something else!

A track came up that was just an instrumental and I found myself really enjoying it for the sheer quality of the music (without the love lyrics).

The kid has a lot of talent and can make really good music. He has started with a formula...but he needs to get beyond that. This is his first CD and possibly his second one has some different themes. Maybe if he teamed up with a good writer...

Anyway, thanks to Tour for this CD. I really enjoyed it a lot. (in spite of my criticism)

I can hear the sinckers now...but that's ok...I think Springfield was a pretty decent rocker...in sprite of the fact that he was a Soap Opera Star and a "Teen Idol".
