I was horrified, been through that area of Conn. many many times! And my daughter is currently a H.S. student at school (not in Conn). So I did more than flinch when I heard this. What a terrible thing, especially this time of year. I feel for the many many parents. Senseless, just senseless!

From what the radio was saying, the shooter murdered his father, went to the school and did his thing there which included his mother who was a teacher.

It's just amazing that we can't figure these whack-jobs out before it happens. Minority Report where are you?!?!

Absolutely senseless and horrific! From several news feeds I have recently scanned it appears the father is alive and the kids lived with his ex-wife in a separate residence. The summary at this juncture seems to be that the shooter was diagnosed as mentally ill, was under the age to legally own a firearm in CT, killed his mother early in the morning and took guns that were legally owned by her, killed another adult which the news feeds assume to be his girlfriend, then took his mother's car and security badge and was able to enter the school unannounced and gunned down his mother's class of kids. Other than the common thread of most of these killers being heavily into violent video games, how do we stop this "going out in a blaze of glorty" craze?

Really sad, but **** happens. People, including kids of all ages, were, are, and will be killed by accidents, by disease, by guns, by knives, by strangulation, etc. each and every day. There's no way to stop a sick mind but to hope for the less damage to the society.

As a father of three ES students this hit really hard on myself. Here in the dominican republic all schools are locked down while class are going on. Maybe some security measures like that might help. Honestly, there must be a frigging internet club or some s... Like that because the mo between this one and the one in oregon earlier this week were kind of similar.

Disturbing to say the least. Why dont they just shoot themselfes and noone else.

I agree. I don't think normal people just flip a switch one day and become maniacal killers. We need to do a better job as a society to identify people who are deeply troubled and take action before it leads to something tragic.

Prayers sent. I consider myself to be a fairly strong individual and when I see this kind of stuff at arms length I certainly feel for the victims. But this hit me on a whole other level. My stomach has been in knots all day and I was on the verge of tears earlier. How can anyone walk into a kindergarten class room and open fire? I still fell ill just thinking about it. Can't even bring myself to turn on the news right now as I can't stomach hearing anything more about it at the moment.

Those were 5,6,7 year old kids, just cut down like it meant nothing. This had to be one eff'd up disturbed individual and there had to be warning signs.

    Completely disgusted and melancholy

    H9

P.s. Most of my friends and family have kids this age and I can't even imagine....................probably why it has hit me so hard.

Agreed, Brock. This has hit many folks hard. Not so much that it is this time of year but that it's senseless and that so many innocent souls were lost. My heart got heavy when I heard the news. Simply unbelievable that someone would do this. My prayers and many thoughts go out to all that have been affected. A sad day, indeed.
