Gotcha. Yea, most psychopaths with antisocial personality disorders also have some sort of malignant narcissism, so making celebrities out of them is basically rewarding them and training other psychopaths to act in similar ways, knowing that they'll achieve similar results.
Shooting sprees and other terrorist acts account for a minuscule percentage of deaths in this country... even in 2001 with the attacks on the World Trade Center. If the goal is to save American lives, we should focus on heart disease, cancer, auto safety, and healthcare in general. We, as a nation, spend way too large of a percentage of our "defense" budget on threats that account for way too small of a percentage of the deaths in this country.
I'd like to see an analysis of the number of "dollars per death" that the Federal Government spends protecting us from different causes of death. I'd bet that the preventative money spent for every terrorist killing outweighs the preventive money spent for every cancer-based death $1,000,000 to $1.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Uh......this might mean that those preventative dollars are actually spent preventing something. -

Most likely the mom was a bit off her rocker as well.
And if junior wasn't stable, giving him easy access to weapons wasn't a great idea.
Nobody seems to know what form of income mom had.
She's a mystery at this point. The 1st reports said she worked at the
school. Now they say she didn't.
The only difference between our crazies and Mid-Eastern ones
is they use theirs as weapons. But if you look at them, they are just as screwed up
mentally as ours.So it's not just a US problem."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -

I absolutely agree; I just don't think we're getting the best bang for our collective buck with the current allocation of death-preventing funds.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

For me, the jury isn't in yet on the mother. Having a suspect child with guns at the ready and tons of ammo ? Not the act of a sane woman either. Did the father or other son know this ? Supposedly she took them to the range too and taught them how to shoot. Really ? A somewhat mentally challenged kid, your going to put a weapon in his hands ?
Seeing that public schools are funded with taxpayer coin, and so are policemen, take one off from writing traffic tickets all day and stick them in a school. Or have at least 2 in every school who can conceal carry, a principal, teacher, secretary. Most schools these days however are gun free zones.....didn't stop this one did it ? Matter of fact, everywhere you have tough gun laws, it leaves these types of crimes wide open because there is nobody able to confront such crazies. Call the police ? By the time they get there the damage is done. No fault of there own, they can't be everywhere.
Also for those wishing to limit or regulate automatic weapons/clips/ammo, I will entertain that thought when police and government do the same. You want me to become defenseless, then so should those in power positions.HT SYSTEM-

As for the mom, it appears that her split of the divorce set her up for pretty much whatever she wanted to do. And gun ownership among women and their involvement in the shooting sports is one of the fastest growing trends in the country. Can you say empowerment and liberation? Those are the two most frequently used descriptors by new women gun owners. And before we judge her, we might want to know if she died because she wouldn't let her son have access to the guns, or died trying to prevent him from leaving with the guns. We also don't know if the son had shown any open tendencies that would lead his mom or others to believe he would commit a violent act like this. I think we might want to know more before we leave tire tracks on her back.DKG999

Sorry for the Freeman post if it's not accurate. I still wholeheartedly agree with the message. I just can't watch the way the media deals with this. Makes me loose respect for humanity. As long as we watch this crap they'll keep broadcasting it. Slanted sensationalistic "journalism" has reached an all time low. If one person, child or adult, innocently dies at the hands of a deranged psychopath is it any less tragic than 20 kids? We are shocked and appalled at the numbers but why does the media treat this as "worse" than a man killing his wife in a drunken rage? They all weigh equally heavy in the hearts of loved ones left behind. I choose to no longer watch the crap the big networks churn out.
As for the debate on how this could have happened my take is simple, if this nut job hadn't had access to firearms his mother may have died anyway at his hands but I very much doubt the school would have even been visited.SDA-1C (full mods)

I think there is a difference between "Middle-East crazies" and ours here in the US. The act of detonating a bomb in a crowd of people is attrocious. But when you squeeze off round after round and watch your victims die, in this case young children, they seem to get a certain amount of satisfaction for every one they see fall.
End results are the same, but a different state of mind is required.SRS 3.1TL

I have no problem with the rights of gun owners. But with it comes the responsibility to safely store/secure such weapons, something that unfortunately too many fail to do in my experience.Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

Don't really know where this thread is going. Swirling around, digressing, tangents? What we have experienced is tragic, that's really about "all" that can be said. To forward "arguments" seems futile and impotent to me! To defend or oppose "rights", equally absurd--it only shows one's political biases or neuroses one way or the other. And there is "plenty of paranoia" to go around at the old CP! But one thing I can assure you is that "societies" have existed where such things were "largely" absent and unknown, we have some data on that.
Other than that. I have "nothing" to say that would influence anyone here one way or the other. And, personally, I'm more focused on this moment of grieving than trying to "explain" or "prove" anything. And I would suggest that that's where most of us should still be?

You're right tonyb, all citizens should have the right to buy/possess 50mm bullets, automatic weapons and banana clips, just like those on the front lines in our nation's defense. -
Words cannot describe what happened.
What we can do is look for the patterns. The fact a gun was used is trivial. It's just a tool. Just recently a man in China went nuts and killed a bunch of children with a knife. Could have easily been a wooden baseball bat with nails pounded though it. The last two are not as convenient as a gun but can and will kill others.
So what are the patterns in all of this? Seems a number of the mass shootings in schools the parents have been teachers and some sort of medication has been involved. Anti-Depressants, etc.
We as humans are in reality nasty, vile and generally unpleasant creatures. Everything about us is based on electrical and chemical properties in our bodies. Those chemicals get out of whack, or something short circuits in our brain and who knows what will happen. Sure there are drugs to put those back into some sort of normal range but what are the long term effects? Are we just starting to see those effects now? We are capable of amazing and beautiful things, but are also capable of some of the most mean and cruel things anyone could imagine.
Something is not right with people who do these sort of things. Ever known someone who commits suicide? The will to survive and live is a primal instinct that will take over when your life is in danger. What has happened in the mind of someone who kill themselves? What happened to that instinct? Did they figure out a way to suppress it or is it a combination of chemical imbalance and/or a short circuit?
If I had been tested as a child for aggressive behavior and such later in life I would have failed and likely tossed in the looney bin forever. My teachers in public school always told me I was worthless, stupid and would wind up a drug addict. I heard this every day, from every teacher. I was the quiet kid who kept to himself. It wasn't until I was moved to a private school my sophomore year of high school were the facility and staff actually cared for the students that I was able to open up.
Patterns.. we have to figure out what the patterns are and start there.
My heart goes out to the families. I'm visiting my sister soon and will give all of her kids big hugs. -
elieve me people will stop carrying guns.
Her crazy son wouldn’t be able to get his hands on guns otherwise.
And no we are not going to bans knives next. I rather have my child slashed than shot.

Keyword there is IF Sal. Anyone can find a gun on the street. That still won't keep people from getting their hands on them. Besides, you and I both know, these "types" of discussions are frowned upon and generally never turn out well. So I will stop now.--Gary--

Osama Bin Laden killed 3,000 Americans, essesntially, with boxcutters.
Tim McVeigh killed 168 Americans, and injured 800 others with fertilizer.
Andrei Chikatillo murdered 56 woman and children. Some nutjob in China killed 22 school children with a knife. Both Russia and China are 'gun-free' countries.
Evil will always find a way to conduct business, regardless of what tools are available.

They are on the street now. After the global clean-up of all guns in the US by our goverment it'll be much harder to find one.
It did wonders for Australia.

If 3 guys break into my house armed with baseball bats, my family could be dead if I didn't have access to a gun. If 3 guys break into my house with guns, if I get one shot off, hit or not, they're probably not going to keep coming. If you think making guns illegal will decrease things like home invasion, you're crazy.

Great idea! Let's start with your house. What time would you like the gov't officials to come by? Oops....that would allow you to hide your guns....I guess they should just come by unanounced to toss the joint! Yes, yes now THAT'S progress! -

OMG! Can you imagine what he'd do if the gov't officials that came to his house looking for his hidden guns took crowbars to his SDA 1.2s? Afterall, they DO look like the perfect hiding place for a stash of assault weapons. -
The data is still coming out, so some quotes might not hold up. When his mother was asked how Adam was she replied,
"When I talked to Nancy that time, about how he was doing, she said he's been going to the (gun) range a lot recently," Diaz told CNN. "That he'd taken that up as a hobby."
