Thinking about getting one does anyone have them and what do you think?

My mom is a big coffee drinker and she loves hers. I also a enjoy a cup when I visit.

My experience with hers is that the preparation is easy, quick, and clean.

A real time single cup can be an advantage, of course, and the quality is good.
One pays a premium for the convenience, though. The gizmo is expensive, and the per-cup cost of the prepacked cups is high.

A very good and inexpensive way to make single cups (mugs!) of coffee is to get a funnel, a package of (conical, not flat bottomed) coffee filters and a package of good coffee. Heat water to very hot (near boiling) in a microwave and do a "pour over". Fast, easy, cheap, and yields an excellent cup o' joe.

+1 - Pour over is my preferred choice after French Press, if I'm not having a double espresso.

I've had 2 Kuerig's ,one crapped out about a year ago, but the company sent me a new improved one free of charge. Makes a decent one serving cup of coffee, but mhardy6647 has it right, hard to beat pouring HOT filtered or distilled water over freshly ground whole beans in a coffee filter dripping into your cup. Now that beats the hell___ out of any cup of coffee I got from a Keurig machine.

I've had one for about three years. Very convenient and makes a good cup of coffee. Well worth it for the convenience. We buy bulk packs of the coffee at Sam's club which significantly lowers the per cup cost.

I gotta be honest - we grind about a week's worth of beans at a time and store 'em in an old coffee can :-)
Not optimal but I am deeply and profoundly lazy!

Please note first and foremost is that there's nothing to go wrong with the "hardware", no up-front "capital" cost (unless you need a grinder) and the per cup cost is way less than the Keurig gizmo. :-)

The cost could be going down slightly since Green Mountains patent just expired. That should lend itself to a little more competition, though the price will probably not drop significantly.

My woman has one and basically its a proprietary trap. You pay for it dearly too. As soon as they run the course on the V cup they will come up with a new format to force people to buy new junk. They will do it over and over when people find ways to get around their high prices. I am not a coffee person I admit that but I do know business and I can spot this tactic from a mile away. There is no more profitable business than if you can sell something at a high price which the machine is, and then sell them constant consumables in fancy packages. Stay away that is my suggestion.

I love ours. We only used distilled water in it to avoid early failure from lime scale buildup. We buy and grind various "gourmet" coffees in a burr machine and use a refillable/permanent K-cup. Much better and cheaper coffee than buying the cups. I don't miss burnt,stale coffee one bit either !

i love mine! i like having all the different flavors and you can get a filter basket thing so you can use any ground coffee. we buy our k-cups bulk online and the are cheaper that way.

My wife has one and loves it. We bought a couple of those stainless steel cups that are fillable and she can use her own coffee. It's not quite as convenient as buying the cups at the store, but is still easier than a traditional setup and is much cheaper than the K cups

I bought one for my wife and the newly remodeled office and she's hooked. It's convenient and easy to use....I make tea from it and couldn't be happier. The Kcups are almost always on sale and not expensive in bulk.

i saw a machine at sams that uses k-cups in the $30-$40 range you just have to put the water in each time for a cup.

We got the Cuisinart Keurig coffee maker and love it. You can adjust the water temperature, has more drink sizes than most, has a larger tank than most and has a rinse feature. One of the big complaints with the Keurig is clogging. The rinse takes care of that issue. The other complaint is the taste quality of the coffee. This can be caused by the K-cups you choose but also the brew temperature. I think many of the cheaper models do not get hot enough to properly brew and extract the coffee flavor in such a short time. I set the Cuisinart on the highest temperature and it does great. This model is built very well with a mostly metal frame mechanism. It is a little more expensive. Bed Bath and Beyond sells them and you can use their coupons that they so frequently send.

I tend to like strong coffee. The K-cups that you choose make all the difference. I typically get the Starbucks Sumatra or Anniversary blend. The output rivals what you get in the Starbucks store.

Another option is Starbucks Verismo? System. I had some samples if its output in the store and it is very good. You can get more creative with your coffee drinks and make Caffe Latte or espresso too. Ah, well you want to talk about analogue coffee making. I used my Shark steamer that I clean records with to make foamed milk for cappuccino. No joke, before I got what I have now I used the Shark in combination with the Aeropress. My wife thought I'd finally gone round the bend when she saw me holding the Shark's nozzle in a glass of milk trying to foam it up.

I got one and love it. It makes a wonderful cup of coffee. You get to select from a very wide range of different brews. My advise is to get the Sampler pack. This way you can tryout many different kinds and not waste money on a box and hate it.

We also have a Tassimo which I like as much and better. It makes a more organic tasting cup as it changes the time and brew temp on the fly depening on which disc you put into it. It has a bar reader. You also can do Cappuccino as they come with 2 discs , one is the Expresso and the other is the milk. It comes out excellent. I have not seen that on the Keurig. But there is more to select from with Keurig. Star Bucks and Duncan Donuts both make K cups along with a very wide range of companies.

I say get one , I believe anyone would enjoy a cup from it. Hardcore Coffee drinkers who only like preparing their own beans and such may not like it. But those of us who drink one maybe 2 cups in the morning max it's a blessing. You don't have to waste a pot as I have many times as I use to make a pot and I would end up throwing a lot of it away.

Started using one of these when camping about 35 years ago. I think there are still 3 or 4 of them flaoting around in my camping boxes.

The 1 cup Melitta, not as classic as a funnel but the filters for these are readily available.

I got the Nespresso U last month...pretty happy with it. Most of the choices are pretty good, but its difficult to remember which color container was your favorite. If you don't mind the limitations of their weird coffee club its good and convenient....

We have had one for a couple years and like the convenience of it. However, even in bulk the K-cups can be expensive compared to regular bean coffee so we grind our own and use an EZ-Cup filter pack with it. It has it's own tiny paper filters so it's easier to use than many of the other pods which have metal baskets that have to be washed out each time.
