Keurig coffee

My wife and I received one as a wedding gift. Got the smallest one. I love the Keurig, but the smallest one lacks some key features that the others have. We'll probably be selling it on Craigslist and getting a larger one.

Jimbo18 has the right idea!

The problem with the Keurig's is that they break down a lot... The water pump is directly over the pwoer transformer and if it leaks, ZAP!!! There are issues with water leaking from the base (not easily fixed) and water leaking from the dispenser. It makes grat coffee, no doubt but the reliability leaves a lot to be desired.

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
that sucks , I have had mine for well over a year maybe 2 now and I haven't had any issues yet(knocks on woods)
Me neither, plus, after reading about potential problems, I bought a very inexpensive SquareTrade warranty for a 3yr. period so..................... mine can't/won't die until it's 37th month ! -
Yeah I'm using the filter so I can use my own coffee. Put the bunn away. Keurig really works good.

If there is anything in life about which I am more fanatical than my stereo (counterfactual conditional!), then it would be coffee.
Pod coffee makers, whatever the brand, are good for their convenience, and they can make decent cups of coffee. My daughter has one that makes her life as a commuter very easy early in the morning.
But, if you want the best cup of coffee that is possible at home, you have to go with a high quality espresso machine -- e.g., La Cimbali Junior Casa DT1 with an equally high-quality grinder-- and you have to learn barista skills, and you have to grind your beans fresh just before dosing the portafilter.
Believe me, it can be a passion that is almost as all-consuming as audiophilia! Digging up an old thread...
Wife got me/us one for my birthday yesterday. It's no nitty gritty (last year's b-day present!!)
She got the Keurig Special Edition Brewing System. Worked well on day one. Only tried it out so far with the sample cups that are included. She also got the reusable cup so we can grind our own coffee...which is probably what we'll do most of.
My French press (which said indestructable on the side) just broke so the timing is good. I'll probably get another French press, however, as I really enjoy that when I have the time.
But this machine seems like a nice unit and good for a quick cup.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A -
One thing to remember about coffee guys...It's all in the grind!
-
I use mine every morning with a reusable cup and Kona beans my buddy sent me. I am pretty anal about the grind.
For motorcycle trips/camping, I bring my French press and grind enough beans for the whole trip and then double ziploc them."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

I had the Platinum one at it completely quit working 2 months out of warranty, they won't fix it or send me a new one since its no longer covered. My only option is to buy ANOTHER platinum one for $80, it's a good deal but after the first one crapped out they won't be getting any more of my money. I liked it while it worked though.
-
Use distilled H2O only, it will last a long time without the lime scale buildup ! My Platinum is 2+ years and still going strong. This might be because I heard all the failure stories and got a Square Trade Warranty.

I saw on t.v. that instead of buying the case of prepared puncture cups you can now buy a cup set up of some kind that is reuseable and you use your own coffe of your choosing all the time. That to me after buying the machine is the way to go. It's the pre package coffe that will cost an arm and a leg after a while. The machine like any other machine is for increased speed, production ,ease of use and so forth.I live alone and only use a one cup Brookstone coffee for one. Obviously not ideal for
a family waiting in line .If solo then it's perfect.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

We bought the Cuinisnart one a bout 3 weeks ago. I was using the Cuisninart Grind and brew but was only making one cup as my wife drinks tea. There was too much to clean afterwards for just the one cup. I chose the Cuisinart one for reasons others have stated plus it comes with a 3 yr warranty. Directly from them. I do really like that I can make a cup in the morning, after dinner make a decaf or a flavored drink. I also really like making iced tea with it. My wife uses it to boil the water for her teas and in the pm she will make herself a green tea and sometimes a sleepytime tea after dinner. I am having a hard time finding the right setting with the right Kcup. Some taste better with 6oz others with 8oz. The cuisinart comes with it's own My kcup which I have yet to try. I also use the water filter that came with it plus I only add water from my already filtered brita jug. So far so good.

Total coffee snob here. First thing - acquire fresh whole bean coffee (lots of on-line vendors), grind it up in my Baratza Maestro and put it in the filter basket. Second - pour fresh filtered water into my Technivorm Moccamaster and turn it on. Oh man are we talking about kick a-- cup of coffee. The key with the Technivorm is brewing at the correct 200 degree temp and saturating the ground coffee for the correct amount of time.
If you want your coffee to taste like the cup you get at your local specialty coffee shop (or better) get a good grinder and a Technivorm.2-Channel System

Obsession18, that sounds like the way to get the best cup of coffee, but I can get by the cheap way with boiled distilled water poured over fresh ground beans in a molita filter and drip funnel over my coffee cup. Takes about 2 or 3 minutes (the grounds start to pack down after a bit in the paper filter so you have to pour the water in stages) but it taste great! I've tried those plastic cup sets to put your own coffee into that work with the Keurig. They don't work that great, I think the Keurig pushes the water through the grounds too fast and just don't give the grounds a chance to release all of the flavor IMHO.
-
I have tried the My K-cup thing that came with my Cuisninart and haven't had much success yet. It likely depends on the beans and the grind but I haven't found a good combo yet.
For a tea, I like the Twinings English Breakfast. It is hardly cost effective but it is good if you are in a hurry, which is sacrilege when it comes to tea. The Cuisninart is nice since it has a rinse that keeps the tea from tasting like coffee.Stan

I grind my own and use the special K cup.
The green mountain breakfast blend is nice, though, for a quick cup.
I prefer to french press when I have time, but mine broke a couple weeks ago.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A -
On an ecological note, the store-bought K-cups can not be recycled and billions of used ones are going into landfills every year ! I just got a new refillable one called the Ekobrew. Made In USA !!! Works great, about 11 bucks from Amazon. I'd bought a cup/filter paper system (EZcup) but, the cup & paper filters are from China ! Bleccchhhh, not gonna happen in my house ! Returned the whole mess, ASAP !

Now that beats the hell___ out of any cup of coffee I got from a Keurig machine.
