I don't agree with all of his findings in that article.

"Fourth-best opponent: Notre Dame played Michigan (20th) at home and won by a touchdown. Alabama played Mississippi (33rd) on the road and won by 19. Georgia hosted Mississippi (33rd) and won by 27. All three won. Most impressive of the three: Notre Dame."

    Should be GA

"Sixth-best opponent: Notre Dame visited Michigan State (39th) and won by 17. Alabama visited Missouri (43rd) and won by 32. Georgia visited Tennessee (54th) and won by seven. Most impressive of the three: Notre Dame."

    Should be AL

    Here's the big WTF
"Ninth-best opponent: Notre Dame hosted Pittsburgh (66th) and won by three in triple overtime. Alabama hosted Western Kentucky (82nd) and won by 35. Georgia visited Kentucky (92nd) and won by five. Most impressive of the three: Notre Dame."

ND played at home to 66th ranked PB and won by a field goal in triple over time.

AL played (at home) to 82nd and won by 35.

How is scraping by a 66th ranked team in triple OT more impressive?

And this one is so far out there in terms of rank, that it's really impossible to say
"Worst opponent: Notre Dame visited Boston College (121st) and won by 15. Alabama hosted Western Carolina (204th) and won by 49. Georgia hosted Buffalo (135th) and won by 22. Most impressive of the three: Notre Dame."

Does he take into account when the first string was pulled and what the score was then?

Cool article though. I do sometimes get tired of the 'SEC is best' mindset, but they've backed it up several times. I was so freakin tired of hearing LSU people last year I couldn't have been happier that they got 'rolled' in the championship.

It doesn't look like he's taking into account the margin of victory, just the ranking of the team that they beat. I actually agree with that approach to a certain extent. Not all teams are built to pile up the points and so looking at margin of victory or 'style points' isn't really fair to a team that's built more around defense than offense. The same is true in the NFL, while a great offense is a good way to win, you have your teams like Baltimore that have won championships based solely on defense.

IMO the criteria for ranking should be a blended metric of your record and the record of your opponents, and if it comes down to it conference record. So you can't have a team that's undefeated and has beaten up on a bunch of unranked teams finish ahead of a one loss team like Alabama who has played tougher opponents. To me that seems like the most fair ranking system. I don't think HOW you win should come into play because different teams do things differently and then you're placing judgement on HOW they got it done vs they got it done.

Thing is, even with something like that in place this year ND would still be ranked number 1 because they're undefeated AND beaten teams with a collectively better record.

All that being said, yes the SEC has surely shown over the last few years that they're a force to be reckoned with.

Actually, it looks like he is taking score into consideration...

"Third-best opponent: Notre Dame played USC (16th) on the road, never trailed and won by nine. Alabama played Michigan (20th) at a neutral site, never trailed and won by 27. Georgia hosted Vanderbilt (29th) and won by 45. Most impressive of the three: Alabama."

Yeah I guess, but that one is a little different because USC when beaten by ND was a) without their starting QB and b) already on a downward spiral having lost the previous two weeks.

I'll tell you one thing, the Saints have got to be better at completing contested throws than any other team in the NFL. Lance Moore is a highly underrated receiver IMO.

I got no worries... I know if they meet the niners later on in the playoffs the niners will beat them. How many games have the falcons won that were close to call?

46 years of the falcons, enjoying the good teams lately, but i will truly believe when they roll in the playoffs.

I think matt dimitroff and arthur blank will make it happen eventually, but im just still shaky with this team.

Here are some pics from a few years ago when my sister was arthur blanks personal secretary.

The statues are outside his old office, they are metal and these pics dont do them justice, methinks they would look good in steveinarizonas house.

Just noticed, i look like i think hes drawing down on me.

one pic is blanks suite at the georgia dome,my sister connie is the one with the black boots, and me standing beside Jeff Van Note, falcons center.

I don't trash talk until after the game. But I have a lot of respect for Ga, they're good and it's not like they're a bloody rivalry against Bama like Auburn or LSU. Both team played very well, Bama only outgained Ga by about a hundred yards. Ga needs to do better on their rush defense though, Bama 349 on the ground. I was glad it wasn't a blowout, I think some people thought it was going to be one. I don't think the ND coming up will be a blowout either, anybody can play Bama tough this year.

Oklahoma beating WVU by one point doesn't count, 50-49, what a joke.

Impossible. The big 12 has the hardest conference this year (Reference pg 4) and they've only lost to one big 12 team!

I think the fact that 9 of 10 teams in the Big 12 speaks to the depth of the conference. I know there are 35 bowl games yada yada, but when 90% of your teams go, not bad.

The SEC is a top heavy conference and the Big 12 is a deep conference, plain and simple.

Again, you guys are referencing the two teams that illustrate my point of the Big 12 being good: A&M and W.Va. (along with TCU). You have to really believe in coincidence to think that all of a sudden A&M is great and W.Va. is terrible. You don't think changing conferences had anything to do with their change of fate???

OU over-rated?? They are 10-2 with losses to #1 ND and #5 K. St. and they are only ranked #11. This is over-rated? WOW!

some useless trivia really, teams play totally different in Bowl games, doesn't really matter how the rest of the season goes I don't think.
