That first one looks super early with that early method of grille attachment. Interesting that even that one has a countersunk passive radiator. Makes me think that they must've done that from the beginning with the Monitor 5. Not with the 7 though in the beginning. Things that make ya go hmmmm.

I considered but probably not going for it personally. These are Series II for $75. They don't seem to have the updated tweeters because you can see the foam ring.

They take the drop-in Wuhans. I believe the pole-pieces may have copper shorting rings. Would be a fun project. They look well treated to boot.

You'ld be first to have billet SL2500-RDO hybrids. The alloy plates have the RDO throat profile. You may like what you hear.

These are fair game for one of us. I'll be noble rather than a hoarder o:) But I will put the $75 in a slush fund towards a nice pair of CRS+.

This is pure evil at work, and $25 less for my slush fund. I really don't have a space for them. Don't have a 2nd system anywhere in garage, basement, or bedroom and don't really care to listen there......groan. PLUS this sort of thing never happens in NJ so it must be a trick :p

Thanks vsat88. Very generous. I've actually got an old receiver that I could set up a 2nd system with but I just wouldn't listen to it really if it isn't as good or better than what I have. So I guess the bottom line is I want these to get played and not just sit on a shelf. I asked my neighbor if he wants them for his bar (converted backyard workshop) but they are both into the wireless super mini mono speaker thing (uggh...groan). I would also hate to strip them down for parts, which I don't need but others might.

Picked up a pair of 5b for $25. A few dings in the finish but they sound great.

Nice acquisition. I always thought Peerless and SL1000 cabinets were considered 5A's.

    Cool.

    Enjoy. :)

Maybe you'll want to hear what other Polks sound like in the near future.

After I bought my first Polk audio Model 10's and heard my classic Rock on them, I was hooked.

I went on a quest to own every Polk speakers made. I would buy them second hand though because that was my budget for almost all of my life. Pawn shops, yard sales and the Goodwill and Habitat stores had them too.

When I was given a set of POLK SDA-SRS2's, I heard what I was missing out on.

But I KNOW what these smaller monitor 5's can produce because I own a couple of sets of this smaller series bookies. They're amazing for their sizes. These 6.5" woofers are so powerful even when one is all there is in each cabinet. B)
Put some super glue Gel on the magnets to keep them from shifting from age. both sides of the magnet needs gluing.
    oq5uvjon9lgv.jpg

My little collection of the smaller series. 4's, 5jr.s and I have a set of 5's on another shelf.

I had to check. Those tweeter cutouts were definitely made for the slightly larger Peerless bezels but I'm not sure that means anything considering the way they used up older parts. I know for a fact that they sold some 7B with SL1000 and some 7C with SL1000 (crazy!). It looks like the 5B had the SL1000, based upon this from Audio Oct. 1984, but the question is did they sell some 5A that had it too?:

    4y1vnomrl6jw.jpg
    g4wdtnxxexda.jpg

Ha ha and then in Oct 1985 the 5B and 7C had the SL2000:

If you look at the back of your speakers, the XO/Binding Post plate should show a 5A or 5B, like this:
