I think, because of the fuse, these are probably RTA12B and that is probably a Peerless tweeter. Those Axon caps are metallized polypropylene on the low end cost wise and are made by the same maker of Solens. If all the drivers are good, $150 seems like a terrific price.

I am almost certain that tweeter is an RD-0

Yeah you're right. I brightened the picture and you can see the circular polk audio indented graphic. The early RTA12C came with the SL1000 and it did have a fuse, so maybe the owner replaced the SL1000 with an RDO-194-1.

How can I tell? Any markings I should look for?

    Sorry I am a noob.

It helps to squint, for me at least 🤣 The RD0-194-1 has that circular polk audio and you can see it in the photo. The speaker itself should probably say RTA12C on the XO/binding post cup. If the owner replaced an SL1000 they would've had a cutout that was too small. They probably didn't enlarge the cutout and probably just screwed it on anyway. You can kind of see how the top of the tweeter plate is right up at the top of the tweeter baffle near the bevel.

I like peerless just as good if not better than the RD0-194-1 myself as far as sound gos but if it's a SL- 1000 (peerless copy ?) From what I understand they do not sound so hot.

Good price in North Carolina for 2.3’s. Based on the description, think they might belong to somebody here. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I ALMOST went to look at these when they were for sale up the road a bit, but Steve ( a great guy) DID go and buy them.

He found me somehow and he came over to listen to my SDA-SRS2's to hear how the SDA was supposed to sound like. We talked for quite a while about audio and Polk speakers.

I just emailed him to touch base again. I really don't have the space right now or I'd be running to get these.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
  • Yep, Tony is correct, they are mine. I just need to sell these, and some more audio gear, to make room for some open baffle kits I am building. Time to try something new. I also need to list the parts for a dreadnought I never built for the Polks. I ended up buying an amp that was compatible. Thanks to all on here for the tips and advice on these Polks!

I like how some of the older Polk models that were sold were 4 ohm. According to this "http://www.hifi-classic.net/review/polk-audio-rta-12b-339.html" they dipped down to 3 ohms. Expensive for the time at 1000.00 a set. M.P. knew what he was doing. He knew some of us just had to have big 200wpc plus high current amplifiers and made the speakers accordingly. He also knew if we did not have that kinda amp... we would be looking to get one !

No riser on the bottom so maybe someone swapped in SL2000's and lost the diffraction spoilers in the process. You can tell they have been used hard..
