Pretty good sounding speakers. Had two sets. A good deal for someone for a Benjamin!

Do you guys update the xovers to 2Bs?

    I think the 2A's had a 2 board xover.

I was given a set that I assumed were 2A's (looked just the ones linked above). I figured since they had the 2 board xover I couldn't upgrade to 2B and do the TL mod. Funny thing is when I opened them up they WERE actually 2B studios with wood grain vinyl. I thought the studio versions only came in black vinyl.

Far as I know the A's were two board blade blade. In between from what I have heard they used up parts from newer to older vice versa in old new cabinets so yes there were 2b's that look like 2a's. As far as conversion all it takes is 2b networks and two 6511 mid drivers in the SDA position. I am not 100% certain on some of this but I am sure someone will slip in and correct me if I am wrong.

I'll chime in. I did a quick check of SDA Handbook and it says the 2B had (1) MW6503 (instead of MW6510) for stereo driver and (1) MW6511 (instead of MW6510) for SDA driver. Passive was the same SW121.

Internal cabinet volume could be different as well as the piece of MDF inside that went between the mid woofers but that I am not certain on either. May have been, may not have been
As far as x overs there is not a problem with building them on a board if one has or can source the components.

2b and 2a studio cabinet should be the same.

I've substituted a 6502 in place of the 6511 in CRS+ cabinets and SDA-10Bs. I'm not sure what the substitution would sound like in the larger 2B cabinets. Maybe someone has tried here before?

these look to be in great condition. I think that they are the silver basket ones.
I would love to get them, but the wife would kill me.

Thanks @wispolkboy for this find. I followed up on these and picked them up!
Welcome to the club...are you going to update the crosseovers?

I’m going to listen to them unmodified initially but yes, based on everything I’ve read and all the recommendations on this site, I will definitely get the crossovers updated.

I did the TL upgrade on my 2A's. You still have to use a common ground amp and you can't use the isolation transformer, but you can use the RD0198 tweeters with an additional 5.8ufcapacitor if my memory is correct.

Oh crap now you tell me! In all fairness, in my hour and a half drive each way through the middle of nowhere every day, if it wasn't for foruming and driving I may have dozed off and drove off a cliff. Now I know some of you are saying... And your point is???

No point. Thank you for keeping me alive one more day.

I really don't have anything special planned for them. They will simply enter the rotation of a somewhat vintage setup that I've been tinkering with.

Currently it consists of a Yamaha CR1020, a Pioneer PL10, and some Boston Acoustics A150's. Other components come in and out of rotation as the need for tinkering develops.

Nice. Crazy low price. I would pounce on that. One driver isn't silver basket, so probably not the original driver. I did not know that they were countersinking the passives back then.

Ones I have seen like that best I recall were not countersunk and as you said have the silver metal baskets. Probably shifted a magnet. Who cares for 50 bones that's a deal.
