I'd buy them and put them up on the shelf with my other ones because... :)

I could "never" pass up a good deal for many years.

Thanks vsat88. Very generous. I've actually got an old receiver that I could set up a 2nd system with but I just wouldn't listen to it really if it isn't as good or better than what I have. So I guess the bottom line is I want these to get played and not just sit on a shelf. I asked my neighbor if he wants them for his bar (converted backyard workshop) but they are both into the wireless super mini mono speaker thing (uggh...groan). I would also hate to strip them down for parts, which I don't need but others might.

Picked up a pair of 5b for $25. A few dings in the finish but they sound great.

Nice acquisition. I always thought Peerless and SL1000 cabinets were considered 5A's.

    Cool.

    Enjoy. :)

Maybe you'll want to hear what other Polks sound like in the near future.

After I bought my first Polk audio Model 10's and heard my classic Rock on them, I was hooked.

I went on a quest to own every Polk speakers made. I would buy them second hand though because that was my budget for almost all of my life. Pawn shops, yard sales and the Goodwill and Habitat stores had them too.

When I was given a set of POLK SDA-SRS2's, I heard what I was missing out on.

But I KNOW what these smaller monitor 5's can produce because I own a couple of sets of this smaller series bookies. They're amazing for their sizes. These 6.5" woofers are so powerful even when one is all there is in each cabinet. B)
Put some super glue Gel on the magnets to keep them from shifting from age. both sides of the magnet needs gluing.

My little collection of the smaller series. 4's, 5jr.s and I have a set of 5's on another shelf.

I had to check. Those tweeter cutouts were definitely made for the slightly larger Peerless bezels but I'm not sure that means anything considering the way they used up older parts. I know for a fact that they sold some 7B with SL1000 and some 7C with SL1000 (crazy!). It looks like the 5B had the SL1000, based upon this from Audio Oct. 1984, but the question is did they sell some 5A that had it too?:

Ha ha and then in Oct 1985 the 5B and 7C had the SL2000:

I haven't a clue other than what the seller told me. No matter I like them.

If you look at the back of your speakers, the XO/Binding Post plate should show a 5A or 5B, like this:

Sorry about that. It’s either operator error or a function/limitation of OfferUp. I’ll look into what I might have done wrong and if I figure it out I’ll repost the link.

I had a pair of those pass through here a while back. The mids had a mild but annoying buzzing even after a proper refoam. Other than that they were ok at best.

The mids are domes that need to be replaced, not refoamed or am I confused?

The ones I had didn't have domes. Apparently they used both types.
