Picked this Sansui Model 8 up for 25.00 sight unseen. Met the gentleman & he said his wife bought it new in the 70's. Front face is perfect-wood has some scratches & rear top has a big ding. That said this sucker is heavy & makes the Monitor 5's dance
You really like a lot of midrange. ;)

Very nice. I have a CR 800, which I like better than the succeeding series. I find the 800 gives you an excellent feeling for the vintage Yammie sound, which I like but find a little too neutral. I prefer the warmth of HK units. The Yammie strength is in more high frequency detail.

i agree. Those smaller HK receivers back in the day were built like tanks & sound wonderful. Very conservative

The Hafler could've jumped into my trunk -- it's a pretty nice amplifier.

Not all Peavey stuff was/is junk; just most of it :-P

I even own one Peavey amplifier; it is sort of a poor persons Manley Stingray (i.e., push-pull parallel EL84 stereo amplifier)! :- )

This peavey stuff I got is terribly sad, a power booster amp thingey and a set of old speakers, t-300's I think. They do have dual paper cone drivers which are working, tweets are mostly dead.

Working on a deal to trade the Hafler for an Akai amp to go with my 280D SS RTR.

I have a lead on a crown IC150 preamp for cheap that originally came with the 150A amps.
Not sure if I want to pursue it.

I used to install Bose speakers like that if they are the true hi-hat style and not car speakers. To install on prewires Bose made a cutout template that had a locking spring assembly that was also installed. When the house was nearing close you would grab on to the springs that fit into their locking mates on the speakers and the tension of these springs would just snap up the speakers just like hi-hat lights. For existing houses Bose made basically the same template only in 2 halves so after your hole is cut you could slide the ' rat trap' and wire the speaker and lock it into place. These went w/ 3 room amps that looked like car amplifiers w/ an input for a sub and volume controls and were meant for basements or closets and not to be seen.

For serious listening not a chance. For background music there just fine. People went crazy nuts over those things during the building boom of the 90's and spent close to 10k to do a full house w/ multiple amps, subs. volume controls and input plates. Then there was the Lifestyle surround system for the family rooms at $5k.

Latest pickup, KEF CODA III. Two way 8" bookshelf, ridiculously cheap, the guy threw in a, supposedly, defunct HK 340 for free!

    zpzwvsc004bq.jpg

Surprisingly detailed and airy top end, tight bass, not very deep but competent for their size-only 18" high!

Now I have to source a missing BALANCE KNOB for an HK 340 and hit it with deOxit. The receiver seems to play through H-phones fine (well, with the regular drop outs associated with dirty pots, that is), but needs cleaning. If I can find a replacement knob I may just return it to the guy I got it from! He seems to think this unit is dead? I still have to test it on speakers. But I suspect it will work if the H-phone section is working? We have one for sale on this site: NICE warm full (20 watt per side) sound! Someone should buy it!

    http://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/167197/70s-harman-kardon-receiver-available#latest

Any ideas as to what I can use for a knob. Not looking to source one from ebay. Anything that will work and I can spray paint silver would be fine. Not that concerned with cosmetics, if I had a 3D printer I could just measure a knob and reproduce one of similar size. But I don't.

    Thanks!
