Will Polk RTI A7 Floor Standers output good sound when paired with Denon 1611 5.1 AVR

Hi All,

I am planning to buy the polk rti a7 floor standers next month & i am more confused if my current denon 1611 avr which supports 75 watts per channel @ 8ohms & 110 watter per channel @ 6 ohms would able to drive the rti a7

My room size is 11x11 & wish to seek advice if it would fill the sound pretty. Currently i have Polk RM 6750 satellites & planning to replace the fronts. Please provide your suggestion

Your receiver will run the A'7s but you will be a very long way from experiencing the A7's full potential. Your room seems pretty small so they should sound okay.

If you want to see what the A7's are capable of you will want to look at external amplification. The problem is that your particular AVR does not have pre-outs to support external amps. Personally, I would see how they sound with your current AVR because once you go down the road of upgrading your AVR it is hard to turn back (upgradeitis) and becomes expensive.

    Agreed,
I suggest a receiver upgrade as well with your system. Get the speakers first as it will work then look to upgrade to a higher end model with more power.

I agree w/the other replies minus AVR upgrade as I'm not knowledgeable on the finer points of what u have or should buy.

If used/vintage amps are on your radar, consider Hafler XL280. 145 WPC into 8 ohms, over 200 into 4 ohms; stable into 2 ohms; important because the 'A7 is 4 ohms below 125hz. Similar, Rotel RB 980 or RB 981 about 120 into 8, 200 into 4.
Another, though much harder to come by, is a Belles series One. A high current amp stable into 4 ohms. Any will do a respectable job driving those speakers.

Meanwhile, learn what is warm and/or hot for your AVR w/ your current speakers so you'll know when driving the 'A7s to avoid frying it.

ok so more it recommends not to go with my current avr. i cannot upgrade the avr as of now. How about going for polk tsi 500 or tsi 400 floor standers. would i face any limits there too?

Your AVR does not have pre-outs, so buying an amp will be pointless. The one single pre-out you're seeing on the back of it is for the subwoofer and it is even labeled subwoofer underneath it. If you want to use an external amplifier, you will need a receiver with pre-outs not only for the subwoofer, but for each channel

hi, i am from indian and its denon 1611 indian version. The preout is for subwoofer and external amp too. It asks if i want to set the preassign to normal or front i.e dts es or dolby pro iiz...i can connect and external amp and make the system 7.1 i mean comeon it's my avr n i know what all it has got :-)

I just checked your 1611 and it does NOT have pre-outs so it will not work for an external amp. It would make a nice second system for you if you have already purchased it and if you have not purchased it then don't. What I recommend is the LOWEST receiver in a series of your selected manufacture that has full pre-outs AND THE NEEDED DO-DADS SUCH AS HDMI, USB, WIRELESS, ETC. I know that in the Onkyo line up it is the TXNR 709 and can be had for at or under $500 at club onkyo. com as a re-furb. I have a TXHR 708 with my main system and it passes off the fronts and center to an external amp and the onkyo fires up the rears and surrounds with lots of power and happiness. Something like the 709 will also run your system marginally on it's own for the near term until you get an amp. Best of luck.

My question is: why do you want something as big as an a7 in a 11x11 room? Especially if your receiver doesn't quiet have the juice to push it well?

Why not get a nice bookshelf that will sound great with the power your receiver provides and you can always add a 8 or 10 inch sub if you want more low end.

[paraphrase] your AVR CAN drive bookshelf speakers (or what you have) very well. Add a quality 8 or 10 inch sub to "do the heavy lifting" if you want more low end.
I have to agree Lieiuvis. I didn't notice your space was that small. Unless you plan to upgrade your space (room size) w/in say the next 12-18 months 'A7s will overwhelm your room.

That said, consider RTi A3s w/a CSi A4 or A6 CC, across your front; FXi A4 side/surounds should do nicely!

    Hi,

I might move to a new apartment but i am not sure how soon it could be...may be within 6 months or it might take more than year too...its just unsure...till then i dont want to wait for the sake of room size. so my idea is to have floor standers (some great ones really) & use them at moderate levels..i am looking out much from music & guys my avr has 2 preouts 1 for subwoofer & 1 for external amp (have uploaded the image here of my avr back so you guys can be sure ). Another question is the preassign ask me to set to either front heights or normal (surround back speakers) i.e dolby pro IIz or DTS ES so incase if i get an external amp & connect the rti's to that then how could i set the rti to main fronts while watching movies in 5.1 or 7.1. For music i shall listen in stereo mode so no issues & hence pls suggest me a good power amp for rti. As i already have satellites & i feel its time to upgrade the setup as it is pretty mediocre for me & i am really not interested in book shelves as i would feel the same in sometime again. I have a jbl 12" sub which rocks my house...here many people are using floor standers in a small room & they get really good output. Since i would be investing this for once, i dont want to endup getting something & later crave for another

The India version of the Denon 1611 is 5.1 and has pre-outs for adding an amp for front heights, not what you for what are trying to do. Try a search of India Denon 1611.

okie so even if i get an amp it would be for powering either the surrond back or the front heights

A reciever can make a world of difference in the sound of a set of speakers. I have Rti A5's which are very easy to run speakers. First they where connected to a old sony HTIB avr, then I purchased a mid level consumer Yamaha avr, then a Pioneer Elite and final got a seperate power amp. Each time I upgraded it improved the sound. Point being that just because a avr can make the woofer move does not mean you are really hearing the speaker.

As gp4jesus said getting a smaller speaker will be easier on your current avr and will sound better then underdriven A7's

I do totally understand you wanting to buy the best speakers you can, so you don't have to upgrade again, but everyone is right, the a7's are not going to shine with that small amount of power running through them. In all likelihood, they'll be harsh on the highs, and that receiver will have a very hard time moving those woofers adequately..

The Polk TSi series is an updated version of the Monitors that I listed above. I would go with TSi 400 with your reciever.

If you like Onkyo then I would start here or go higher depending on budget.
    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_580TXN809B/Onkyo-TX-NR809.html?tp=179

If you want to stick with Denon then I would use this or better.
    http://usa.denon.com/US/Product/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?PCatId=AVSolutions(DenonNA)&CatId=AVReceivers(DenonNA)&Pid=AVR3312CI(DenonNA)

Both models will drive your new speakers very well with no amps needed. Neither is what I would personally use if I was going to RTIA series speakers. I would use this.
    http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/AV-Receivers/Elite+Receivers/VSX-53.
Reason is I feel Elite's are better sounding receiver over both Denon and Onkyo , thats a personal opinion and take it as such. Features also dictate which model to go AFTER you have a good quality receiver that will allow your given speakers to shine. Buying the best receiver your money can buy will only yield the best overall sound quality and experience of your system for years to come. This is a place where you want to spend the most amount of money possible.

I'm a big fan of Marantz. They have a similar tone to Denon IMO, hell I think they are owned by the same company...

The SR5006 will push your A7 fine in your current room and in a larger room.

If you really won't to start pushing your A7's, you can still add a 2ch amp for them with the SR5006.

I just purchased an SR5006 and I have A7s. I am biamping them, and they sound so much better than my old pio. A lot better depth.

If you have little satelites on the back and use 5.1 and biamp, you will feed between 150 and 200W per channel to the A7s, which is pretty good even for external amp. At least on paper you will, not sure it will be as good as a high current amp.
