New iPad was announced today.
They're doing more catching up and pretending that they're the first to do all these things.
My jaded hatred of Apple aside, if this was $200 cheaper I would actually buy it now.

Meh, I've used quite a few of the higher end offerings from other companies, and I wouldn't give my 2 up if they paid me. 3 is in works for me...

So what they now have like 100 Billion in the bank? Company is worth 500 billion? Sounds to me they are doing something right.
This new iPad is pretty sweet , the Apple TV on the other hand I was hoping for a little more but I'll take it as it is. Nice very small improvements that should have been their last year.
Excited for Mountain Lion this summer , things are really looking upward.Dan

New iPad and Apple TV scheduled for delivery on the 16th!
I do Linux and Windows system admin work, but when I come home...I love my 27" iMac. Best desktop computer I've ever used. It's 2 1/2 years old and still runs like new.
Haters...go enjoy your windows and android stuff! No excuses! -
I dig apple stuff also.. but why all the douchebaggery by the die hards?

For me the best part of the announcement was that Apple will continue to sell the base model of the iPad 2 for $100 less. That means our school will be able to purchase the secure mobile storage charging cart (each set of iPads will be shared between the two classes of the same grade). The following year we will buy the second set. The teacher will get an iPad 3 that with an app can display the screen wirelessly instead of buying a smart boards at $3k a pop.Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

When do phones ever have a key board?
My daughter is a special eds kid due to her heart transplant when she was 7 days old, and getting her the iPad has taken her learning abilitys to another level, yes even over her PC, but she uses it for everything and loves it. My only compliant is I didn't buy her one sooner then I did.
So you see it as a toy I see it as a tool.. -
When do phones ever have a key board?
All of my phones have had keyboards. Currently using a Palm Pixi (running WebOS). Not everyone's cup of tea, but as far a I am concerned, a more perfect phone has never existed. Small, thin, rugged, great OS, great keyboard, nice tactile feedback, the battery cover acts as a case for the phone so there is no need to bulk it up by putting another case on it, has inductive charging built in... I have bought spares for when the one I am using now dies. That's how much I love this phone.
Tablets are another story. I do have a Touchpad, but I mostly play games on it. Occasionally I will use it to look up something while I am sitting on the couch instead of walking back to the computer, but if I do need to type a bit, I have a Bluetooth keyboard for it.
More to the point, however, I think the loyalties that exist among gadget fans are pretty much ridiculous. I am loyal to my Pixi only because of its hardware. But when you are talking about slab phones, hardware-wise they all have the same format. Large screen, no keyboard, maybe a few buttons. The OS sets them apart, and there is nothing I need to do that I could not comfortably do on any of the available OSes, and I am sure that is true for most people, even if they don't want to admit it. My last phone before the Pixi ran Windows Mobile, and if the Motorola Charm (Android) had been available on Sprint, I might have gotten that before I ended up with the Pixi. But I'm very glad I did end up with the Pixi. I doubt another phone with a more perfect hardware layout will ever exist. I was never a fan of Palm's phones before or after the Pixi, but this phone IMO is the standard by which all other phones should be judged.

You can right click on macs. I've been right clicking on mine since 2007, and it was available long before that.

My son's learning curve has grown exponentially ever since we switched to MAC. He knew the PC thing at a very young age and it's all related to the enjoyment and the willingness to learn. I would never switch back.Michael

Apple puts out a good product, you can't say otherwise. They aren't the only ones though. I think the Apple haters have more to do with the company's hypocracies than with the products themselves. Like Nike and a few others.
The same people who hold Apple up on a pedastal, are the same ones who rail against being dependant on foreign oil, but turn their heads at being dependant on foreign slave labor. Mind you, Apple isn't the only ones, they just make themselves the target when they start opening their mouths.
That aside, I like their products, to a degree. Their magic is in the software, not the hardware, and they are very good at meshing the 2 together to come up with newer and better products than their competition. They always seem to be one step ahead of everyone else.HT SYSTEM-

Blackberry - Honestly, I love the physical keyboard and I definitely see that as an asset for the purposes it serves. Some of which makes it better than a touch screen. -

I miss my blackberry almost every time I need to type an email on my iPhone. But the blackberry wasn't very good for checking in at restaurants and playing angry birds. -

Bold 9900 + Playbook 2.0 = Does everything you listed and more with great speed.
Edit: Not to mention I can use the phone's keyboard to type all my emails that I view on my larger screened playbook. Remote control FTW!

I have a Windows Phone. Does most things faster than iPhone, has a better on-screen keyboard, and I don't have to install buggy iTunes on my computer at all. If I can help it, I will never buy an Apple product. But I at least respect what they're doing by bringing this stuff to the masses, however hipster-cultish it seems to me at times.
And yeah, I miss the physical keyboard of a Blackberry sometimes... but the pros definitely outweigh the cons.Equipment list:

As a loyal Zune HD owner and user, I contemplated ditching my BB for WP7. I never took the plunge but I agree, WP7 is an awesome OS and the phones are stellar. I would pick one of these up no questions asked over an iPhone any day. Probably even Android too.
-
WP7 is very good. That would be my next pick behind WebOS.
Apple does one thing and one thing only better than any other company on the planet: Marketing. Yes, that is an underhanded compliment, but I am being sincere. I seriously believe they have the absolute number one marketing team in the world--by a large margin. They care very much about the image presented by the company and its products--much more so than they care about the actual product itself. Take the iPhone 4. It's got glass on both sides. Not only that, the edge of the glass is exposed, not recessed and protected. To my mind, that is just mind-bogglingly, monumentally stupid. But hey, it sure looks sleek... until reality sets in and you realize that you either have to put a case on it to protect the glass, or make sure you never, ever drop the phone.
http://youtu.be/elKxgsrJFhw
And if you have to put a case on it, then what was the point of making it look so good in the first place? Instead of having a sleek, glass phone, you end up with a plastic brick. Everyone I know with an iPhone 4 has a plastic brick because of the case they carry it in. Looks like they were made by Fisher Price. But hey, they sure looked good in the commercials and in the store. Meanwhile I carry my Palm Pixi completely naked, since it was designed to be carried without a case. And did I mention the built-in inductive charging?
It's clear to me that function follows form at Apple instead of vice versa, which apparently is appealing to quite a lot of people. To quote Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson, those people are what I call wrong. So if I am an Apple hater, it's because Apple sets the trend in the marketplace. The problem is, the trend is wrong. The masses want sleek looking toys, and Apple delivers. Then to compete, the rest of the market decides that they too must have sleek looking toys, and suddenly it becomes much harder to find a phone where form has followed function--which is why I am stockpiling Pixis.

I'm an Apple hater because their products don't deserve the price they're sold at. That they're generally great products can't be argued, but still not worth a 200-300% increase in price over competitors.
Obviously the American people disagree with me, or Apple wouldn't be the behemoth it is today."Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men.
