    Quote:
ISLAMABAD, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Urdu TV channel Geo News quoted Pakistani intelligence officials as saying that the world's most wanted terrorist Osama Bin Laden was killed in a search operation launched by the Pakistani forces after a Pakistani army helicopter was shot down in the wee hours of Monday in Abbotabad, a mountainous town located some 60 kilometers north of Pakistan's capital city of Islamabad.

At about 1:20 a.m. local time a Pakistani helicopter was shot down by unknown people in the Sikandarabad area of Abbotabad. The Pakistani forces launched a search operation in the nearby area and encountered with a group of unknown armed people. A fire exchange followed between the two sides.

When the fire exchange ended, the Pakistani forces arrested some Arab women and kids as well some other armed people who later confessed to the Pakistani forces they were with Osama Bin laden when the fire was exchanged and Bin Laden was killed in the firing.

Local media reported that after the dead body of Bin Laden was recovered, two U.S. helicopter flew to the site and carried away the dead body of Bin Laden.

Initial reports said that at least one was killed and two others were injured in the crash. At least two houses were engulfed by the huge fire caused by the crashed chopper.

Rescue team rushed to the site shortly after the crash was reported and the armed forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation there.

Sources of Xinhua said they tried to enter the area after the incident took place, but no media people were allowed inside.

"No one knows in that helicopter crash Bin Laden was killed," said the sources.

    Good riddance to garbage.

Don't believe a word of the above. We live next to Pakistan and it's an open secret that the establishment there, protected him for 10 years. It's also a fact that the Pak establishment covertly supports, funds and trains the terrorists.

During the 2008 Mumbai attack the terrorists from Pakistan, were in touch with controllers who were part of the Pak army and intelligence services.

For Gods sake don't look at his extermination through moralistic lenses. These guys have 0 morals and deserve no pity. The actions of the American forces need to be commended not questioned.

    First off:

During a Phillies extra-innings game Sunday night, the word spread through the crowd of Bin Laden's death. Chants of "USA, USA' spontaneously arose as word of that event spread through the crowd.
(jump to 1:00 mark if you wish to avoid President Obama's announcement)

For that, I will no longer refer to Philadelphia as "Filth-adelphia".

As a matter of fact, I searched the Web for an appropriate version of this Kate Smith song. Took place way back in 76 at a Philadelphia Flyers playoff game.
Great song by a great lady.
    Don't enjoy it ? Tough ****.

This one's for the SEALS who went above and beyond. As usual.
And made it back. Not necessarily as usual.

    Second off:

The merits of our presence over there and how we got there and why we're still there certainly can bring up different points of view.
Some of these different points of view are 180 degrees apart from each and are held by reasonable, intelligent people.

However, IMO, it doesn't matter HOW we got there; the fact of the matter is that we ARE there.

So while our soldiers/sailors/Marines are in harm's way, it would be my opinion that we avoid situations that, while temporarily might be pleasing to us, would put them further in harm's way while having no productive military value.
Such as displays of bin Laden's body in a manner that would offend normal Middle Eastern people.
Or dragging the body through the streets.
    Or nuking Pakistan ().

Listened to an interview last night of .. ?.... a former Lt. Commander in charge of Navy Seals. As he said, this operation went by the book. Stealth in, stealth out, maximum minimal collateral damage while completing the mission. In his opinion, the SEALS that went in were hand-picked, the best of the best. He mentioned that he wouldn't be surprised if their heart rates remained relatively low (120), even in the middle of an extemely dangerous mission and a resultant firefight.
It would be a good idea, IMO, to emulate their actions. In and out, intense but calm, complete the mission and go on to the next mission/goal.

Not necessary, IMO, that the government put pictures of bin Ladens double-tapped body out for public consumption.
Not if it means putting our military that are over there further in harm's way.
Of course, it really shouldn't matter to me; I'm not over there.
My inconvenience is extremely minimal as it is. Not much chance of physical harm. I possibly pay a little more at the gas pump, so my inconvience is probably purely financial.
It might be a patriotic idea to put a 10 cents a gallon surcharge on gasoline, strictly to be used towards the police action in the Middle East. Just a thought.

As always, the rule of thumb is: NEVER do what the opposing force wants you to do.

I tend to agree with not pouring fuel on the fire. They want us to show the pictures as it would be the best propoganda for their cause. If any world leaders have doubts, send HIllbillery over there with a stock set of photos as proof. If they still don't believe, let them look for him for ten years.

I believe we should show the pictures, bring out all those scumbags from hiding so we can shoot them.
As far as not showing them because they are supposedly pretty ugly....well, nobody had a problem with showing video of our soldiers, think Black Hawk Down, or better yet, David Berg getting his head sawed off. Seems only fitting to show the world what a terrorist looks like after we get our mitts on them.

Lets also not forget that this doesn't mean the end of terrorism. Personally I believe the new wave is not the same road obl was on, but a road more traveled, like through governments. Take a look at the uprisings in the middle east and the groups looking to seize power. It is no longer necessary to strap a bomb to your body and blow up a few people, or crash planes into buildings. Now you can control millions, and a countries resources by simply toppling the existing government. The fun will really get started when the control of most the worlds oil falls under these nutjobs. Not that they weren't controlled by nutjobs before hand, but at least the past ones you could deal with. The new nutjobs....I'm not so sure anymore.

world events seem to be making it harder to sleep soundly at night. bin laden dead. if so, good riddence. but i feel there is something much larger than the likes of bin laden. i'm not sure when it will hit or in what manner, but if we don't come together as a nation, we're going the way of the romans. and by coming together i don't mean left or right. there will always be a divide. but the sense of America as it once was happened to be our only saving grace. as divided as we are today, how can we survive. and how can we expect the rest of the world's population to respect us???

destabilize the world...to me that's like throwing up the chips and letting them fall where they may. there is no real direction. but i can see more everyday that we, Americans, are on our own. i sure hope there will be a way to come together. we did for a moment on sunday/monday... but that's already fading.

How about we take up a collection and let those Westboro Baptist nutjobs protest those funerals and memorial services?
