    +1!

In regards to measuring, I think it is good if we can equate it to our listening experience and apply it to our future gear choices. For instance, I had some tube and SS gear tested for distortion. Not just total, but at what frequency and what amount and what kind of distortion. While it opened my eyes to what I like and don't, someone that doesn't or won't try and understand what second order distortion does would look at the graph and dismiss/bash gear based on that. It's no wonder manufacturers don't or won't provide that kind of detailed info to the public.

Not a new concept of course. Older audio folks will recall the measurement versus listening debates that occurred while we were growing up (or just getting older:biggrin:).

Listening to LZ I on the office rig. Not bad at all, actually sounds pretty good. Still too early to tell for sure. I'll pull out the original and then the typical remaster and see if I can hear any differences...........well I'm sure I will between the 80's original and this.

I have to say the original release of LZ I sounds mighty fine, mighty fine. Less digital for sure than this box set remaster. But it doesn't have the space around the instruments or vocals. But it's not as "crunchy" sounding up top as the remaster. Glad I hung on to the original releases from the 80's in addition to having this boxset

I have to say the original LZ I is a more enjoyable listen than the remaster. Now if you only had the remaster I think you would be happy, but after listening to the original cd, it's a lot more analog sounding.

The cymbals "shimmer" rather than "crunch"

The boxset sounds good. I really think they are the same masters/pressings as the Atlantic Japan CD's. It's LZ, so higher-fidelity isn't in my set of expectations. I do have a couple of the early 80's radio station kits with all the LZ CD's distributed to radio stations at the start of the LP to CD transition. I've never opened them so not sure if those are the origninal masters or not.

Mine finally arrived today. I couldn't get it out of the shipping carton even after opening the bottom to try and push it out. I ended up pulling the carton open at the side seam. I found that both top, back corners, which would be on the bottom in the carton, have the black coating peeled off and of course the plastic is ripped, which indicates that someone jammed it into the shipping carton. I found the black pieces of the coating inside the carton. I sent Rhino an email, so we'll see what they do. Right now, I'm extremely unhappy.

Mine was packed pretty tightly also. I turned it upside down and shook it and it kind of slowly slid out. I would guess that Rhino will send you a new box.

Yeah, they don't need to send another box set, I would be happy with a new outer box.

LZ 3 from the boxset seems to match exactly to "Led Zeppelin III AMCY-2433 Atlantic ~ east west japan 97-11-5.log" when using the bit comparison software after I ripped it to the server. It didn't match to whatever stat file and master dbpoweramp thought it should use for comparison.

Got mine today and it was packed very tightly also. Luckily no damage to the box set. I'm very excited to listen to these as most of my LZ experience is from the 4 disc box set and the Led Zeppelin DVD. I know all the songs but have never actually listened to any albums except IV and In Through the Out Door.

Have fun listening to the albums in their entirety, should be a new high! :) Especially if you start at LZ 1 and continue the journey through to the end! Happy listening!

Mine came in a larger box with some stuffing and one of those air packs. Not jammed into anything to tight. You'd think with the size of operation Rhino runs and because they are mail order they would have some shipping consistency.

Glad they took care of it...

I tried to place an order last week but the website wouldn't recognize my address. Finally called the next day and the rep was extremely helpful. He wasn't able to manually place the order because this boxed set is a code/link referral offer, but continued helping me until we figured out the city/zip on their database was referenced incorrectly. Made a change and the order went through. It's worth calling...their CS is very helpful, but he said the only way to get the offer is through the website.

Now, just waiting for the boxed set to arrive.

Ordered mine on Fri, 28 Jan, and received it today. Thoroughly impressed w/the packaging/reproduction quality. This set is way cool! Takes me back to high school and hanging out in my best friend's basement, thumbing through the albums. I'm listening to the first CD, track 9-How Many More Times, and the SQ is very good.

If you're on the fence w/respect to purchasing, IMHO, it's worth every penny of $87, + free shipping to boot (USPS).

The first thing that anyone who purchased this box set needs to do is order replacement "**** bags". The original ones are terrible....the glue on the strip is too strong and the plastic is too thin causing the damn things to rip.

Wes at www.soundsourcecds.com sells high quality replacements, actually made in Japan.
