I recommend swapping out all the capacitors and resistors - they are old at this point and could use some freshening up

Have you ever done any crossover mods on Monitor Audio speakers. Overall i really like my GS 60's but there is something missing in sounstage depth that i have heard done better by other speakers. I wonder if some better components might help? If you start do any mods again i would like to chat about doing mine thanks. Please forgive my ignorance but do you need the whole speaker or just certain parts to be shipped to you.

Anyone looking to do crossover mods can email at the following address

    VR3MXDMICBLCE2K7 AT GMAIL DOT COM

This will forward your email to my real email and we can talk about modding.

Crossovers are pretty much the same across the board...

Either on a circuit board or mounted on some MDF inside a cabinet. Older speakers were mounted on an enclosure wall.

Most cases you can just mail me the crossover, if it is MDF and you are not sure enough to remove the MDF with a chisel or something of that nature then you can send me the entire thing. Whatever works for you :)

Hands down the biggest improvement I have heard in audio to date (with top notch parts) is crossover upgrades. I wish I could modify every speaker I lay my ears on. The difference is like lifting a veil off of the speakers.

    Alright folks!

I am ready to modify crossovers again..

Here is what I am thinking

$20.00 Basic crossovers - Normal size parts, nothing over 20uf, 10 at most - etc
$30.00 More advanced crossovers - Larger sustained caps (500uf and below) - 20 at most parts, MUST BE ABLE TO FIT BACK INSIDE ENCLOSURE
    $120.00 External crossovers

    Price is per board)

The above is just labor - no shipping or parts.

I can turn these around faster than you can shake a stick at them!

Get me a parts list or send me your crossovers - you pay for the parts up front, they come to my house - you ship my your crossovers, I modify them at the speed of light and ship them back to you!

    :)

Id like to comment that my recommended parts will be the following

Clarity Cap MR, ESA, SA, PX (First)

    Dayton 5% and Solen (Second)

Mox Resistors (10watt) and Mundorf Supreme (20 watt) (First)

    Mills Resistors (12 watt) (second)

    Duelund resistors (When budget allows)

hey--in the Tyler application,,is the MOX that much better than the Mills? Reason I ask,,I am about to start the 7U upgrade this weekend, and I plan on using the Mills unless there is that big of a difference between the two,,I chose the Mills cause they seem a tad more natural/nuetral--laid back that the MOX,,from what I've read and heard. Eh?

The mills is more laid back - but the mox will bring alot more detail out. IMO

Also - if I have values on hand of what goes in your crossover I will only charge 60% of their value...

    I have Solen 4uf (x 6) and 8uf (x2), Hovland 8uf (x2) and 5uf (x2)

I also have misc resistors on hand I will charge 80% of their value...

    Quite a few 15 or 16 ohm -- 18ohm, .1 ohm, etc

    Anyways

    :)

    Nice.

Why did you go with SA on the 3.9 and not the ESA????

The MR is sick man. Magic.

Amazing how different your parts are from my Taylos...

    4uf, 12uf (x2) and 5uf

Did he use any 20 watt resistors in yours/

I meant ESA--the resistors are eagle brand,, 12 ohm and two 4 ohm,,they appear to be 10 watters

    here's a pic

    I calculate-measured it @ 4 ohms

Id keep the Eagles in the tweeter network. They were better than Duelund with my super towers (synergy baby!) - Just a though to try before you toss them...

    So strange...

That is like every other speaker I have from Ty except the 22uf -- the Taylo monitor has alot more resistors in it... interesting

You should be able to throw a 20 watt in the woofer network. FWIW

I was gonna use Mills--12 watters--I also am replacing the 22uF lytic's with ESA's as well. You realy think the eagle will sound better than the mills in the tweeter network?I know you've tried them(various resistors)Thanks for the tip,,as I planned on tossing them in the am when I start.

Eagle and Mills are virtually the same IMO.

I kept them in my Taylo monitors where they were used... :)

Man you guys make me want to upgrade my taylo 7u towers.
But I dont know much about crossovers and have no experience with soldering.
What would it cost to upgrade my crossovers to make big improvement???

Clarity ESA;s and an MR for the tweeter--475 dollars--sonicap--half maybe less less.

    Honestly?

To do it right - it seems to be an average cost of 5-800 dollars. (Closer to 800 doing external)

    And worth every freakin penny!

If you are not comfortable doing them yourself - Ill do them for 40 bucks plus shipping.

Just take a flat head screw driver and remove them from your enclosures - mark which wires go where, ship them to me - Ill drop in new parts - send them back your way :)

The thing is.. I spent 1k on the speakers. Would the 800 dollar investment really be worth it???
