Id like to modify your crossovers...

I dont know if this is a no-no or not...

But I would like to modify crossovers like RT - LSi, speakers along the lines where the crossovers have maybe a maximum of 10 or so parts -- (no SDA speakers)

I would probably only charge like 30 bucks per crossover plus freight.... obviously you pay for parts...

I just would like something to do at nights between work, working on the house and my sub when it is just to late to do anything but browse the internet. Keep my brain tinkering...

Thoughts?

Again if this is a no-no please delete!

Turn around time would be generally 3-5 days.

You got your first costumer here. This is great for someone like me that doesn't have the tools or know how to perform a crossover mod.

    Thanks

I think I'm interested as well. Just don't have the free time to devote to speakers I actually want to listen too! My current project has been sitting torn apart of my table for 2 weeks lol.. I need to listen to something! =)

    I'll send you a PM

Cool - I look forward to doing them!

Also, for wire leads to reach certain points I will be using DH Labs silver/copper wire. It is very nice wire - I wired up my super towers with them on the inside.

It is like 1.25 a foot.

All leads that exposed will be heat shrinked -- and all parts hot glued into place...

    Yep yep.

I love this stuff, it is addicting. I find if I am tinkering with other peoples gear - I am not spending money on my own ;)

    What speakers do you have?

If so - usually not - just have to disconnect the speakers then take out the binding post plate

no way dude just label the wires you take off the speakers(most are self explanetory) and what speakers there from would be a big help. It may also help to label left or right speaker, but then again he said no SDA's so it may not matter

    Sounds good --

Like I said, 30 bucks per crossover (board) --- basically 10-15 parts the smaller SDA speakers that have two boards I believe I will do for 40

All I need from you guys is a parts list - capacitance on the caps (usually designated by uF, pF, something along those lines)

And resistor values -- usually saying something like... 20w7r5j (20 watt, 7.5 ohms)

Dont know if you do them ?

Any links to what a general dissected speaker looks like as guidance for taking some polks apart?

That is easy - disconnect woofers and tweets, pull the binding post plate and u are ready to roll...

For the guys that are unsure of how to read the parts - you can always send them to me, I can do that but it obviously slows down the process by a few days...

    Thanks -

Thats cool - I just want to see alot of different crossovers, bunch of parts - etc - Just see what is out there.

This is a good way for me to do this and help a few Polkies out...

It is very fun and I have accumulated alot of tools to knock stuff out fast.

    Vr3...

I've got a set of Monitor 10B's. I think b no fuse on the back for tweeter protection. I would like to know what my options are as far as upgrades go, I've seen some kits on ebay but truly wouldn't know where to start. Depending on your location in NC, (I'm in the Tri-Cities TN) could bring to you. Where would you recommend to research what parts I would want? Thanks

shipping it would cost 10 bucks - way less money than driving that distance (Im about 6-8 hours from the TN border...

Caps Good, Better, Best -- Good = Clarity Cap SA, Auricap, Better = Clarity Cap ESA, Mundorf Supreme, Best = Clarity Cap MR

Resistors - Eagle, Mills, Duelund - etc

Really depends on you, if you send me a parts like of what your speaker uses and a budget you want to spend I will spec you out one.

Douchey. Just rebuild it and not hype it.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I dont mean to hype anything. I personally feel modifying DT speakers is more than worthwhile - and then some.

I have never modified Polk speakers - they do use alot better parts out of the box, but I would still envision Auricaps/Clarity SA, ESA would be a worthy upgrade.

I have a pair of rta 15tl and 11tl. The 15's have the new 198 tweeters from Polk. My question is, if I send you the x-overs how will you know the mods will improve the sound until they are back in the speakers doing their thing? Is the idea that you're simply improving the conductivity of the current? Does changing the capacitors, etc adjust high pass/low pass stuff?

I'm kind of a noob to this stuff, I just remember a really smart and tenacious Polkie a while back posting all about his 15tl mods, and it was quite a journey for him. I just found his post again, here

I am absolutely in love with these 15tl's, they replaced my 1000p's in a game-changing way. But again this are old parts and I'm all for easy upgrades.

I will mod just about anything...

I have never heard a speaker that did NOT benefit from an upgrade.

Alot of time cheap crossover parts cause smearing in the highs - which throw off staging, clarity, really everything

Not to mention clarity, and increased amount of presence, imaging, pin point-ability, roll off, detail and overall a better experience to the speakers you already own.

I still hate you Trey.
