Home = private and therefore totally different than walking down the street. I know that seems impossible in your blinder view of the world, but welcome to the New World Order.

    Fixed it.
What's bizarre is that you people actually think you're in a privatized setting when you're out in public. I don't care what you think, you're not, and pretending that you should be somehow flys in the face of logic.

I'm sorry, even while in public I still do not want to be spied upon. Why it wouldn't bother others is what truly flys in the face of logic.

If you don't want to follow the rules of the road just because you are in a big hurry to go nowhere, then deal with the ticket when a camera busts you breaking the law.

Following the rules of the road!?! There are plenty of unspoken rules which is why they give you a driving exam. Not coming to a screeching halt to avoid an accident to keep from getting a ticket is one of the unspoken COMMON SENSE rules.

Cathy shame on you for your statements if you don't own a vehicle or don't drive. That's just wrong.

Driving is a privilege which requires the constant use of common sense!

Wow. So anytime some crazy legislation comes up, you satisfy yourself by simply saying, "welcome to reality"? It's only reality if you let it happen. Besides, it's only reality in some of the most liberal areas of the nation... it does not show the thoughts of how life should be from the perspective of the greater population of america.... from this standpoint, california may as well be a different country... it's no wonder legislation coming from this state is so often challenged in court.

I used to install cameras and dvr's. When someone didn't want us spying on them they snuck up behind the camera and broke it. As for stopping crime the same thing can be done ahead of time. Another neat little trick my buddy and I found out just messing around is to take a little cheap laser pointer and point it right at the camera. The image is destroyed. Add a cheap little camera tripod you can destroy the image unmanned without actually disabling the camera. A spotlight will do nearly the same thing. If you think you are going to dent crime with cameras you are sadly mistaken. Too many people watch TV shows where they identify people with cameras all the time is a fairly tale. At night they are next to useless. So being an ignoramus thinking that cameras are OK I have a bridge for sale. If they know who they are fallowing they can kinda watch where they go. They are not going to hire a whole team of cops to sit there and watch the cameras. One thing I would like to know is where are they planning on mounting these cameras? Set up to try to pull income off traffic, or are they actually thinking crime deterrent? If a business wants cameras they can do what they have been doing and put up their own cameras.

For those of you who think or don't think were all being monitored, may I suggest you goggle "Echelon (signals intelligence)" for starters. Just remember every phone call, e-mail, forum post, everything you do on the internet, credit/debit card transaction, TV show's you watch (if you have cable or satellite), etc.. IS being monitored and stored, So I say why not cameras every 10 feet because were so far down that "slippery slop" were NEVER going to be able to crawl back up to the top.

Now some of you may say I'm paranoid, but I'm not I know I'm being monitored/watched and you know what I really don't care because there's absolutely nothing I can do about it. Just my .02

And for alll you folks that truly believe the founders could have envisioned the awesome power of the technology that THIS FREE Nation would create, I have news for you. Ben, Thomas, George, and John (the first FAB FOUR)would have surely denounced it's use against the free people of the United States.

Let me ask this... should a parent put a surveilance camera in their 14 year old's bedroom? How about tap their laptop so every keystroke is a matter of scrutiny? I am willing to bet that such a case would be grabbed by the ACLU and a new jail would be built, with that kid's parent being used to mark the cornerstone. Why then, is it ok for the government to not only view the citizenry as children that cannot care for their own best interest, but to place themselves in the position of being our parents. Last time I checked, I did not vote for a father or a mother. I voted for a President, a Senator, a Congressman, a Governor... and if they want to be my Mommy and Daddy, they should adopt me so I can have some of their MILLIONS they steal from us anyway.

There are far more examples of criminals not giving a crap about yours or anyone elses rights and breaking the law. More & more cops are getting shot/killed in the line of duty.

I have seen more drivers run red lights when the orange pops up, then 3 other cars behind the first one decide to go through as well. I've seen drivers go through red lights in the early morning hours simply because no one was on the street and they didn't feel like waiting.

If you don't want to follow the rules of the road just because you are in a big hurry to go nowhere, then deal with the ticket when a camera busts you breaking the law.

Please posts examples of people getting tickets for jaywalking or breaking all of these other ordinances that you paranoids are so worried about happening. If you can't prove it, then it is simply your paranoia talking and has NOTHING to do with reality.

I've actually had one hell of a bad experience with some of these.

When I was younger, they were installing lights with the sensors for the vehicle. I was driving with my step-brother's father in his truck and we came to a stop at a red light rather late. We didn't know it had the sensor to turn so we were sitting there for a minute before he decided to creep the car closer to the light (and actually into a crosswalk). Apparently it wasn't close enough as the light was still red and had been for at least a solid minute. Right as he was about to creep up again, I heard a deafening crash as a crowbar or a heavy wrench or something (to this day, we don't know what) went through the passenger window. So he stood on the gas and sped away, blowing through the red light at the deserted intersection in the middle of the night.

Anyways, a police report was filed and insurance money was claimed but that **** who shattered the window was never caught and never prosecuted. If there was a camera there, he'd probably have escaped just the same.

Now then, I don't approve of cameras going up everywhere to catch people breaking minor laws and, maybe once in a decade, catch an actual felon. The places most vulnerable (schools) and most lucrative (stores & banks) are already monitored.

The only other thing to mention is the GDR's Stasi. Give "The Lives of Others" a watch. As AI & surveillance increases, our own overseers will be more effective in monitoring us than the Stasi. One thing to note is that senior Stasi could and often did sate their own desires with the information gathered.

I agree with this fully. Except, some parents do log what their children do, especially on the computer. All these net-nanny programs and requesting logs from the service providers listing all phone calls & text messages sent. I've had it done to me with dubious results.

How do you teach anyone to be trust worthy, when their every move is monitored? This is the problem. There's no need for "honesty" anymore--because I know where you've been. Another way to be lazy about parenting. Some limp noodles like being "policed" and protected, some of us choose to do it ourselves. Also, who pays for this invasion? WE DO. That's why Kali is BROKE.

Is a "common area" camera, that happens to also capture your front yard an invasion of privacy? Leave the cameras to the british, they're used to being without many of the freedoms we enjoy.

There are 2 kinds of people in this world. Those who obey the law because it's the morally right thing to do; and those who obey the law because there will be punishment if they don't. Think about it. I don't need anyone making that decision for me. It removes all honor and integrity of the individual, making them a subject, not a citizen.

Interesting....the divide in thinking on this subject. There is a definate nanny state mentality out there that wants government to do more for them. That usually equates to freebies, or using other peoples money for your benefit. Social justice I believe is the new terminology. I cringe everytime I hear it. As far as laws being broken,I submit to you that we have way too many laws, stupid laws, to be broken in the first place but were created as income generaters for state and federal bodies.
Steve,I think you hit it, they would rather have good obedient subjects rather than a citizen capable of critical thinking. Think about it. The news used to be just that without the pundits opinions. Now everything seems to be opinion pieces rather than just reporting the facts. Your told what to think by schools, news channels, even the government. Unions have allways been big on telling you what to think and who to vote for. The internet has put a monkey wrench into the message. So now you have them trying to back door control over that under the disguise of safety. Sad really, that soo many are willing to give up their freedoms for what they consider safety. Safety in reality has always been your responsibility, not someone elses.

My question is, when does this stuff cross the line on treason ? You have Bill Ayers wife,a professor at a University, calling for the fall of America. Used to be a time when these nutjobs were locked up. Now we give them prominant positions in our education system. Why ? To promote the anti america sentiment of the socialists,Marxist ? Personally I think the greater enemy is within our borders, not the middle east. Hopefully enough citizens will wake up to this in time to save the land of the free before we become the land of the somewhat free.

Only the tip of the iceberg Tony... The Constitution is now being protected by those that have no desire to follow it. The only reason that Ayres and Dohrn are not in prison today for killing cops and blowing up buildings is that the statute of limitations expired. The enemy is truly within and it is time to put all the partisan crap aside and recognize the situation for what it is. I could go into stunning detail on all of this, but to say more would get me banned.

Take a deep breath brother, no sense popping a vein in your head.

You are welcome brother. I just can't even begin to understand how any Amercian could find this acceptable. We pay taxes already for a Police force. Let them POLICE. These nimrods want to take away the freedom of 98% of the population, so they can have a better "chance" at jailing 2%. Talk about punishing the many, to get at the few--it's just stupid in the extreme. Once you go down this trail, it is VERY difficult to come back.

Even if we can look beyond the unconstitutionality of these big brother systems, imagine the expense of such a system; purchasing, installing, monitoring, responding, maintaining--this stuff isn't free. And once again, they won't prevent the crime--they'll simply document it--IOW, the crime has happened--past tense. A simple halloween mask will render them USELESS. All this, at the cost of your freedom, and your pocket-book. Wake up.

Want to be pro-active? Organize a neighborhood watch. Oh, I know...that would require effort and mean that YOU would have to participate, instead of letting Uncle Sugar take care of it for you, and not inconveniencing you and your busy life. The lazy get governed, the active do the governing; take your pick.

I don't care about the expense as much as I do the loss of sovereingty these cameras provide. As I said in a previous post, once installed, how hard could it be to imagine a central(foreign) power put in change of monitoring them. Outsourcing anyone??? There are elements within the government that would be all to happy to let The United States of America whither and die so that a "New World Order" can come to be. The only thing standing in the way of such a dream is the pride and freedom (guns) of the American people.

To counter this, America has been systematically portrayed as evil around the globe. Our crimes are global warming, to much wealth, to much power etc.... Let me ask this, and I heard this question posed to the late Robert Kennedy in a debate with the late (great) Ronald Reagan. I paraphrase...

"At the end of WWII, the U.S. soley possessed the awesome power of the Atomic Bomb, yet we did not seek to use this power to advance global conquest. Do you think for even a second that if the Soviets or the Chinese held such power, that they would have been so benevolent?"

Our children today in school are being taught apathy towards their country at best, and it has been documented countless times that students are being taught far worse. Our OWN Media constantly goes out of their way to show our enemies to be the ones oppressed by the Evil U.S.of A. Remember the footage from American Reporters showing Iraqi insurgents firing on our troops and reporting their actions to be justified? The only rational reason for such distain of the U.S. is that we stand against tyrany, and tyrany is what is coming our way if we fail to stand against it.

I could go on and on here, but I won't. These systems that are being installed are not there for the ability to stop a robbery here or a rape there. They are there for control and nothing less. The Shadow Government fears the people and their freedoms. These cameras and other moves they have taken in the past ten to fifteen years are designed to erode those freedoms, nothing more...and soon, nothing left.

One could make a strong case for there being a lot of sheeple here on the forum that are to afraid to pull their heads out of the sand long enough to smell the coffee and see what is going on:rolleyes:. Perhaps it is because when you become consiously aware of what is happening, you become compelled to take action, and it is far easier to say that it could never happen here and do nothing. I will gladly be paranoid and aware than follow the heard mentality that inevitably leads to the slaughterhouse.

Where's my Reynolds wrap -- apparently their is a US patent for transmitting audible sound over microwave transmissions that are received by a bone behind your ear... hence the aluminum foil hat... It was developed by the defense department for psychological warfare purposes.

The NSA monitors all communications (except blackberry apparently) and runs a word proximity algorithm. If you say Dick Cheney and 911 to close together their little flag goes up :D

    Just kidding.

The reason Ripon has these cameras is because it is between two of the worst cities in CA: Stockton and Modesto.

Having these cameras in public places is in no way a "invasion of privacy". You should have no expectation of privacy when you are out in public...it just goes against the very definition of both words.

And as far as it "leading to more police abuse" or anything along those lines...it might. I'll give you that. However, it'll also give YOU a means to defend yourself if you are ever falsely arrested or accused. If you know you've done nothing wrong, you'll have video proof that proves your point.

Tony, it is definitely the enemy within! Now for the catcalls of paranoia.

Yeah,I expect it Joe. Lets look at it this way. Myself and others could be wrong, and if we are, no harm no foul. But if we are right, it would be too late to do anything about it if everyone kept their heads in the sand. You just have to pay attention to their own words and follow their actions. You don't need to guess anymore, they come out now and say it openly. But we've become a nation more in tune to who wins Dancing with the stars or the next Apple product, to care about stuff that may require some thought or action. Kinda reminds me of the little boy who cryed Wolf. You cry wolf for so long and he doesn't show up,people stop listening. But what happens at the end ? The Wolf shows up and eats the boy because everyone turned a deaf ear. I'm afraid we are at that stage.
