Got Mugged Tuesday Night!

I was taking a 9:00 PM food shopping run Tuesday night and as usual was making trips to several stores to get the best deals I can on food.

I pull up into a shopping center parking lot which is poorly lit.

When I made the turn into the parking spot, the cell phone slide off the passenger seat and wedged between the door and the seat so, still strapped in, I'm leaning over the passenger seat trying to dig out the phone when I heard my driver's side door swing open. I sat up and WHAM, WHAM, WHAM, three blows to the left side of my mouth and jaw with a metal object which turned out to be a gun. Stunned but keeping a level head, I leaned back over the passenger seat to protect my head and reach for my equalizer but was still strapped in. Took two more blows to my ribs, one to my kidney and one to my pancreas.

At this point I hear two guys screaming, "gimme your money!" I scream I don't have any money, guy hits me again, I say, "f$ck you **** fu5ker" and grab the equalizer. At this point I can peak over my shoulder and see two silhouettes of two black guys and the only thing I could make out were their teeth as they were yelling at me trying to get through the driver's door. I start kicking and poking with my equalizer when the guys screams, "shut up da f4ck up and don't move" at which time I felt the metal barrel end of a handgun against my head and heard, "click" so I froze.

The bums rifled through my pockets and got all my money (a considerable amount) as I keep it in the lower left bag of my cargo shorts. They wanted my wallet two but because of how I was laying, they couldn't get to it.

Then as fast as it occurred they split that fast.

I sat up and had a mouth full of blood and the jaw joint on the opposite side they struck me hurt.

I started the car and roared off after them to see if I could get a bead on where they were going.

I went home, and checked the damage. My upper left lip was swollen like a hemorrhoid, my lower lip inside was split and swollen, my upper left front tooth and lower left front four teeth were bleeding and sore, my right jaw was starting to swell. My wife being an RN caught my trying to clean up in the bathroom because I didn't want to upset her and saw all the blood in the sink and floor.

She looked me over and said that she thought I should go to the hospital but I declined cause the ER charges a lot of money even with Medicare. She wanted to call the cops and I tried to dissuade here from it but she had 911 dialed before I could do anything more. The cops came took a report and offered to take me to the hospital. I told them I was fine and nothing a little ice and pain relief medication couldn't take care of. Both the cops and my wife were really concerned about the split and my jaw was swelling.

Since a gun was involved they wanted me to go to the police station with them and I told them all I wanted to do was take some Tylenol and Advil and go to bed. They agreed but told me to get there first thing in the morning.

I didn't sleep well during the night because my jaw was killing me. When I finally got up Wednesday morning my right jaw looked like I had the mumps. So I iced and kept taking the pain cocktail which did nothing. So I went to the small medical building close by where they have a mini ER and they checked me out. Took xrays of my jaw. They said the contrast of the xray wasn't good enough to see anything. They wrote me a script for 10 pills of a really strong med and told me if the symptoms worsened I should go to the main ER at the hospital to get a CAT scan done. In either case they recommended that I get to my neurologist ASAP.

I went to the police station and gave them the report and the best description I could of those two swine.

Well I woke up this morning and my fat lips and split inside my mouth were a lot better and my jaw, although it hurts like all hell and is even causing my ear to swell a little and hurts like hell are better and the swelling is almost gone.

If I didn't have **** for luck I would have no luck at all. I'm not as upset about the physical injuries as I've had a lot worse during my years what's really killing me is they got all my cash!!!!

Cowardly pieces of **** didn't give me a chance to get out of the car! Although if they did I would probably be dead right now as I had my equalizer and would have started swinging so . . . the moral of this story is, the seat belts saved my life again.

Cash comes and cash goes, life is a different story. Hate to hear this happened Joe, but just be glad you're still here with a gun involved; screw the $$.

Good moral for everyone that reads this actually; no matter how tough you are, it's simply not worth risking your life for a couple hundred bucks or whatever.

I'm glad this didn't escalate into something more tragic and that you are healing. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that karma will deal with those thugs in a special way.

Good grief, Joe, that's terrible! I'm really sorry that happened to you. I know the jaw hurts and the money gone is painful, but considering what might have happened, I'm glad you're alright.
    Take care.

Sorry to hear that Joe, glad you're in one piece and still among the living. Not to turn this into preaching, but why on earth would you carry that much cash around with you? That's what banks are for and debit cards, checks. etc.

I really am sorry this happened. You're luck was changing a little, hope you can still make Polkfest.

    Good Lord!

Miserable sunsabitches! Hate to hear that Joe. That's terrible, but glad your okay...it could have gone so horribly worse, even if by accident.

I'm personally glad you didn't get to your equalizer, cause the only thing to do when a desperate criminal is pressing a gun against your head....is listen! Pride will get people killed every time in that scenario.

    Glad your alive...

Man Joe...That's terrible. I had some close calls when I lived in Manhattan but you're in Delaware? Still no excuse for such abuse. I can't believe you maintained your composure through all that. I think I would've been shot, myself?

I know losing money you need in the current economic climate is no fun...but at least you walked away! Thank God! Get well buddy....we don't want to miss you in N.J.

If there is ANYTHING 'we' can do to help your recovery please drop us a PM?

    Get some rest, and heal.

P.S. What is the 'equalizer'? A baseball bat?

The only thing that didn't get him killed was a malfunction of the sewer rats firearm apparently. Pride has nothing to with protecting yourself; it's called survival.

I assumed the click was a cocking, not a misfire... I sure hope that was the case.... though I suppose either way the outcome was "Joe's not dead."

    Joe,

    So glad that you're alive.

What happened to you (sucks isn't nearly a strong enough word). The animal low-lifes that attacked you will undoubted live brutal and short lives.

I hope that you heal, physically and emotionally, quickly and completely.

As far as the cash goes, if it was enough, your insurance policy (if umbrella) may actually cover most of your losses, but even if it doesn't, be happy. How much would you pay to keep your life?

Joe, I'm so sorry that this happened, but at least you are ALIVE! Take it easy & do what you need to do to heal.

You are still alive to get more money. That is the most important fact. And from now on, do your shopping during the day where more people are around to assist.

    Take care.

Joe, I am sorry to hear! But I also hope that it didn't happen to you for real.

Please tell me it's a joke. If it's not, you have a reason to celebrate for staying alive.

Been attacked before, get over it. If you let it consume you, just give up.
