I wonder if this sick story is real or is there some data that is not printed?
Some people will say nasty things just to get them published.
There have been many examples of this on the Polk Forum. -

I don't suggest it, but if you don't believe what is printed, watch the video, it doesn't get more real than that! -
Where is even HALF of the outrage when it comes to, you know, little things... like "ethnic cleansing" in Eastern Europe?I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I have no reason to watch that video.
Why would anyone want to watch that video?
I know there are sick things done by people to animals and people. But why watch it?
I don't even want to talk about it.

I wonder the same thing too.
Hell, forget about Eastern Europe for a second. Michael Vick, convicted dog fight promoter. Served time. People were outraged over it. They send threatening letters, protest at the Eagles training camp and games and wear clothing and hold signs with tasteless jokes.
Meanwhile, in the midst of all of the Vick clamor, Dante Stallworth, driving drunk in Miami Beach, ran down an elderly man and killed him while driving drunk in his Bentley. It was a news story relegated to page 4 with Vick's BS plastered all over the front page. Nobody mentions a word about Stallworth. The only place I saw it mentioned outside of the Miami area was in the "Truth and Rumors" section of SI.com and Peter King's MMQB column. Most people I know didn't even know it happened. They could tell you what were the colors and names of each dog Vick had though!
I'm not saying that cruelty to animals is acceptable in any way. But all the horrendous stuff from the poverty of war refugees to the mentioned ethnic cleansing in the same area that this video comes out of and THIS is what gets people's panties in a bunch? Sorry but that's some seriously misplaced priorities there.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

The reason for which I know this hits close to home is that I have 2 dogs and to think someone doing this to them. In no way am I downplaying or trying to minimize the severety of what goes on elsewhere.

REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
Good Lord just reading it made me sick. I pass on the video as it may leave a nasty impression stamped on my memory. People can be more savage and inhuman than wild beasts.
-
I won't even read the article. These things happen all too often along with the other human atrocities previously mentioned.
But, it really hits home when animal cruelty is involved as we have had a variety of them over the years.

I wasn't making comments on people here, specifically. But hey, if the shoe fits...
What I was commenting on was the seemingly instantaneous "outrage" around the world by the various news media outlets and the animals rights groups concerning the story. Individual people are going to be pissed off about what they want to be pissed off about for their own reasons. Hence the reason for and behind Willow's response. Nothing wrong with a man sticking to his convictions.
What I find appalling is that these same reporters will travel to this war-torn land to report on this happening and ignore the devastation around them. When was the last time you heard about anything going on with Bosnians, Serbs and the like? Years ago unless it's a blurb about a trial. Read a German newspaper. Nothing has changed over there in 10 years. Where's teh outrage for these people and their plight? The same with animals rights activists who are "outraged" over this mistreatment of animals that they just MUST speak out about. I mean, who's gonna protect the poor animals if they don't?
Last I checked, people met the definition of "animal" quite well. In the literal sense of course.
I don't know the story behind the video but given the environment that the happenings took place in, I wouldn't be surprised if someone was messed up in the head enough from environmental impacts to their psyche to find such things enjoyable. On the survival side of things, poor people with a family pet can't afford to have the pet neutered or spade and if babies come along, they certainly can't afford that either. So unload the babies somewhere and you know what, probably the original pet should go too. There are kinder and more gentler ways to accomplish that task than to chuck them in a river but I'll reference the previous statement about damaged psyches to explain that abhorrent behavior.
Bottom line, I find it sickening that there are much larger problems in Bosnia than some girl, messed up or not, chucking puppies in a river to get outraged about yet they are not even mentioned. It's a bad/wrong thing without a doubt. But it's not worth an international witch hunt. On the same note, neither is a miserable old lady shoving an unsuspecting cat in to a garbage can.
I'm not trying to start a fight nor accuse anyone of anything. Just looking for some perspective in something that seems to have been blown very far out of proportion. And not necessarily by Club Polk members.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

But people are wild beasts. We are not domesticated and the definition of civilization has been defined and purported by us. We are all "living in the wild". The difference between us and animals is that, for better or for worse, we do our best to bend our world to our will. Just because our jungles aren't wooden anymore but rather concrete doesn't mean we aren't still wild.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

The story about ethnic cleansing is an old one and has been reported on ad nasuem the current story about the puppies is new and sensational that is the reason why.
Now that doesnt make the plight of the serbian people any less horrific in my mind and im certain in most peoples.

I don't need "help" "figuring it out". I know that the majority of the world is made up of small-minded individuals with voyeuristic tendencies. It's not the interest in the news story that strikes me but rather the level of outrage associated with the story. People's reactions are what I find disgusting, not the news story itself. Well, I find the news story rather disturbing as well but I don't believe it's worth the press it's getting or the mobilization of activists to come to the aid of the puppies.
You know, in Rwanda, they were throwing infant humans off of bridges and in to gullies. The local news picked it up and the attention just fueled the atrocities while the international media largely ignored the events to the point where they got stories wholly wrong. It was such an international black eye that the story became an Academy Award nominated movie about how screwed up the situation was. Maybe you remember it? Hotel Rwanda? It was striking and honestly the only way a good majority of the people here found out about it. You think they'd have known since the whole "Black Hawk Down" incident in Somalia was occurring for a year before the Genocide happened and that got HUGE press because it was a political and PR disaster.
You know what made the news in 1994 over the atrocities? The clubbing of Nancy Kerrigan by Tonya Harding's goons and subsequent investigation and trials. Yeah, Cobain and O.J. happened too but they didn't come along until about a month afterwords.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Wow. That's insanely cruel. It's hard to tell, but if the puppies are old enough to swim, they should be okay. But still, who does this?

I hear where you're coming from to a certain extent. I voiced this same opinion regarding the mosque near ground zero the other day and was nearly beaten to death with an American flag shirt.
While we more times than not miss the big issues b/c we're too busy focusing on the small ones, it doesn't mean the small ones are any less repugnant. I don't see why you'd be angry at people's reactions to this story. Sounds more like you're angry at the non-reaction to more pressing matters.
And my previous statement stands. As much as you like to write those long rambling responses, why don't you put that talent to work and start cranking out your own publication/website if you don't like what mass media is putting out there. As I said, it seems to have worked out ok for Matt Drudge...2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ

The reason why this particular sad tale is getting the press it is currently is that it is uncommon, you dont see every accidental drive by shooting of a child reported either by the national and international news nor do you see stories about every beating of an eastern woman etc because it has became so common place that it would hardly get a glance but a story of a 102 year old woman fending off a home invasion would get more attention than a man jumping into a icy river to save 4 children and drowning himself even though one is more heroic than the other.
The media will print whatever story they feel will get the most attention and or sell more papers rather than what may actually be more important in the grand scheme of things.

What are you guys arguing about?
Its human nature to react more strongly to what you actually see than what you don't. Who doesn't know that?
