i need that one more jl sub

Any of you guys using a JL sub with a two channel system?
I am toying around trying to connect one of my F113s to my two channel system with no luck.
I've calibrated the sub via the A.R.O. but very little sound is coming from the sub.
I am using a Rogue Audio Magnum 99 Tube Preamp and two monoblocks. I have the RCA interconnect connected to the preamp's "Left" channel output (there are two sets of outputs on preamp) and the interconnect connected to the "Left or Mono" input on the back of the sub. The sub is set to the "Variable" setting instead of the "Ref" setting.
Any suggestions? -
First I would try to isolate where the problem is. Preamp? sub cable? sub?
To check if its the preamp connection- unplug the speaker cable from your preamp and use one of those same outputs to your sub. If problem still exists, try a different sub cable.
Maybe it's the setting on the sub. Check to make sure you have it set to "Master" and not "slave". -
Has anybody tried using the Balanced inputs on your Fathom sub? What difference did you notice vs. the rca inputs?

I tried but did not hear any difference in sound quality. Also the hum level when I put my ears right in front of the sub was the same, therefore I switched back to RCA to save me from installing a new line of in-wall XLR. By the way I only used Monoprice XLR, nothing fancy.Gears shared to both living room & bedroom:

Running balanced should be a little quieter and the bass a tad bit tighter.Linn AV5140 fronts

I haven't set them up yet since I'm still awaiting the long XLR cable for master-slave connection, therefore the grills are still off as of now.
How do you like the "Master/Slave" connection? I ended up setting both subs as Masters. I purchased the xlr cable (BlueJeans) but have not moved the gear to connect it to the subs. -
I love JL products, I just need to scrape together the cash...

I use a pair of 112's in my 2 channel system with XLR connectors. You might try using a splitter. Is the JL even turning on? Perhaps your not sending enough voltage to auto turn on? Suggestions: Buy pair and run them stereo!!:biggrin:

I tried the M/S combination but it did not give me enough room to tweak each sub for it's location. I set each one with the SPL meter and a test disc, then ran ARO independent of each other. Lots of work but worth the effort!!

Hi Gordon,
Once I got behind my gear, I realized I had the RCA in the wrong input. once I corrected that minor detail, the pair were ready to rumble... and rumble they did.
Since then, I have re-connected them back to my HT AVR. I was just curious as to how they would sound with two channel stereo.
I'm running out of space in my media room with these toys! -
For those of you that may be interested in the JL F212, someone on eBay is offering two of them in separate auctions:

I'm surprised that not one bid has been submitted in either of the two auctions. I think that his starting bid is pretty good for the age of the subs.
This is really tempting me. -

I would definitely need to sell my pair of F113s if I grabbed these.

Someone got a good subwoofer for $3,000.00. The seller is liquidating all of his gear (4 McIntosh MC501 mono blocks and other items).

$6,663 less than those twin-Gothams brand new, and it could become even cheaper if you take away little details like the granite and emblems, and switch the amps to the I-Tech 6000.- Computer Rig -
