JL Audio F113

Hello,

For the past year and a half, I have been on a Subwoofer journey!

I started out with a Paradigm DSP3400, Good on Movies not that great
on Music. I give it 8 out of 10 on HT....6.5 on Music

Next I moved way up the Sub Food chain to the Klipsch Thx Ultra2 KW-120
subwoofers. Very Very Good on Movies, OK on Music. The Klipsch have a
Quick accurate sound, true subwoofer, not much mid-bass or warmth.
I give it 9.1 out of 10 on HT.....7.0 on Music

Next up is my Favorite Subwoofer on HT the SVS Ultra-13! The Ultra-13 is
one Great sub! Awesome on Movies and Good on Music(20hz,15hz modes).
The Ultra-13 has a Big Fat warm sound with great Output, this makes watching Movies very Fun:D. The Ultra can be a little slow on Music, but
still has a nice warm sound on Music.
I give it 9.5 out of 10 on HT.....8.5 on Music

Next was a step down from the Ultra-13, the SVS PB12-Plus/2. This Sub was
a Beast on HT, Even more Output than the Ultra-13 but not the SQ of the 13.
The PB12-Plus/2 a big hard hitting sound with Mega Output on HT. On Music
the PB12-Plus/2 can sound a lil Dry and Hard on some Music:( But over all
a good Sub!
I give it 8.8 out of 10 on HT.....7.5 on Music

I saved the kind of Best for Last, The JL Audio F113. All of the reviews are
TRUE. This is one GREAT Subwoofer for Both Movies and Music. The F113
has a Small foot print but a Huge sound:D. The F113 has a natural warm
quick sound on Movies with good Output-and Hits Very Hard(not as big as
the Ultra13) On HT the F113 was on Par with the Ultra-13, only giving up
a lil on the Output..But it's a lil better SQ on HT. Now when it comes to
Music the F113 is the CHAMP-One of the Most Musical subs made today!
I give it 9.5 out of 10 on HT......9.9 on Music:D:D:D

I have a stereo pair of F112's in my two channel system. They can hit hard and accurate. I don't have them cranked to thunderous levels but they certainly are capable, I know, got a bit crazy just to see, feel and hear what they are capable of doing. If you can swing it, I'd definately look into a second one :D

Danz- Thanks for your reviews of all the subs you've had. Not surprising to me that the JL Audio sounds amazing. It's a very well reviewed sub and has won several awards. I'm going to be in the market for a sub this year and keeping JL Audio in mind- probably the F110. My sub progression is as follows: Polk SW10-> Mirage S12-> Velodyne SPL1500R-> ????

Subs are soo much fun. Enjoy!

The F110 is very quick and Musical, and has Deep bass for it's size.

While the JL's are pricey, if one adds up what is spent on a progression of subs, in the long run the cost can be a wash. I think I'm done buying subs the JL's are that nice. I'll qualify that with if I won the lottery, a pair of Gotham's could be possible :D

One aspect about the quest for the ultimate is that you're chasing the nth degree and it get's subjective. There's a guy on AH and AVS that just swapped out his F113 for an Ultra and is getting another one for his 8000 cube room cuz the Fathom just couldn't cut it. I've been considering an upgrade for a couple of years, but have always backed out for one reason or another...mainly because I've come to realize that I really don't need more LFE or subjectively better SQ. I want it, but don't need it. I'm still considering a pair of Empires or the new TCA 18.2. Both of which will be an increase in output and are sealed which I think won't effect my extention much and be an uptick in SQ.

Anyway danz, it's fun to do what you've done, expensive, but fun.

I have to agree with the OP about the quality of JL. I absolutely love my 112 for music. Fortunately it has plenty of output for the size of my room. And yes, it was worth the added price (about half of retail). I can't stand listening to many other subs now.

I envy you bro, nice setup. I know you've been on a quest in the sub depart. and have owned some good ones. I would agree with you on the ratings also. I have dual PB12/plus 2s and they murder for HT. I don't use them for music though. I would love to own dual Gothams but the prices for JL subs are kind of up there. Again bro, congrats on the nice gear, good read for sure.
