    I have the Fathom and started with a double single ended input and now only use a single and I didn't notice a difference.

    No, I don't have a balanced rig. Only component that has XLR's is my amp.

    DMara,

    How are the Dual F113 coming along?

    Danz, I had to hold up my Dual F113 musical review until today due to the fact that I sold my Oppo BDP-93 to one of our CP members last week as well as having to wait till last Friday to receive the new Oppo BDP-95 :smile:
    During the last two days, I put the subs through a line up of hi-res music discs via that Oppo BDP-95:
    * Andea Bocelli's Vivere Bluray disc
    * Chris Botti's In Boston Bluray disc
    * Inception soundtrack on the Special Features Bluray disc
    * Porcupine Tree's Anesthetize Bluray disc
    * Porcupine Tree's Stupid Dream DVD-Audio
    * Porcupine Tree's Lightbulb Sun DVD-Audio
    * Diana Krall's The Look of Love DVD-Audio
    * The Carpenters' Singles 1969-1981 SACD

    I got to tell ya, the addition of the dual F113's as well as my decision to move the L-C-R Polk Audio LSi speakers away from the wall about 1 foot more than previously helped opened the soundstage tremendously! Audio output enveloped the entire big room while the center channel accompanying singers' voices was the clearest I've ever experienced, drowning me in a dreamy mode with my mouth opening wider than ever before :biggrin: I enjoyed discovering a huge amount of low frequency notes that I had been missing with my old Polk Audio microPro 4000 sub. Andea Bocelli's Vivere Bluray disc was just top-of-the-line! The most important compliment I reserved for the F113's was: listening to them at high volume did not make my ears feel fatigue at all.
    What could I say more? I love them JL subs more and more everyday, and I still haven't finished testing them :biggrin:

    Addendum on movie testing: beware, these subs really showed the inferiority of some Bluray movies. Today I tested the first two discs of The Alien Anthology: Alien & Aliens. Video quality was fine, but bass output, both mid- and low-bass, got to earn a below average grade. For example, in Alien, when the cargo ship touched down on the little planet, sound of wind howling around it definitely earned an F. The same effect when the little plane carrying the vehicle full of marines got to the infected industrial site in Aliens was a bit better but should not be considered Bluray audio. I know those two movies were quite old, but turning them into Bluray should include better sound quality. For wowing your friends with these F113 babies, guys, you definitely need to play U-573 Bluray disc's scenes in which the Germans' torpedo blew the S33 up, then the U-110's torpedo blew the German sub up, and finally the depth charges from the German destroyer exploding around the U-110. Those are the numero uno bass quality scenes, don't miss them! Another one is the Dark Knight Bluray disc, its bass was DEEP, and I mean DEEP of the deep's! Love it :biggrin:

    DMara,

    Check out the kid's movie "Despicable Me" for nice bass (as well as overall sound). It should amaze you to say the least.

    I'm glad you are enjoying your new additions.

    How much of a difference in sound can be realized with stands?

    I used one of those Auralex Subdude HD's for my old 55lbs Polk Audio microPro 4000: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2612/4134388186_938a992727_o.jpg
    It would be OK for lightweight subs such as the microPro. However I don't know if its foam legs could stay strong for long to carry the JL Audio Fathom F113's 130lb weight even though its specs showed it can hold up to 200 lbs.

    My goodness, danz, yesterday and today I've tested 2 action Bluray discs: Terminator Salvation & Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. U-571's bass performance still beat Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, but Terminator Salvation provided the best bass attack via the dual F113 setup, well, for now. Heavy hitting while preserving tight response, chest-pounding sub pressure did not lose clean center-channel output. Terminator Salvation is definitely the gate to bass heaven :biggrin:

    That must be insanely loud with the excursion that far... knowing what my f112 does when it's not pushing that hard my ears don't want that pressure in his room.

    Yeah Dan. It's pretty impressive. But the JL subs are sealed, so the power required for doing that kind of excursion is insane. I think Gotham got 3KW plate amp?

    I think it's diggin deep low. I don't hear really loud music from the video but it's hard to tell. It depends on the mic on the Video Camera he is using. IMO, the excursion is probably doing the low end extension...

    I just looked it up. It's 3800W short term power. You better have 40A dedicated outlet for each of them. :biggrin::biggrin:
