1937 Philco Radios
I have inherrited my grandparent's old Philco 37-650 from 1937. It has sat for many years unused. My aunt passed away in August, the house is being emptied to sell and I couldn't see this radio going to waste. It was dirty as he-double-toothpick and I was amazed how it cleaned up with vacuuming and some very dilute mild dishsoap. The cabinet need a little work and I'm hoping I can bend Jesse's ear for some advice.
I am not sure if it works yet and am refraining from trying to power it up without a dim-bulb tester. I have also read that the caps should be replaced before even trying.

This is true. Where my grandma lived in Arkansas, only the very wealthy had basements. The bedrock was very shallow and to have a basement they drilled, placed charges and let'er rip then cleaned up the blasted rock. This was 1977, maybe things have changed now. High water tables are also a concern.
It hasn't changed. It adds about a third to the cost of the average home in Arkansas to have a basement.
The cool thing was in the basements I seen way back then, the walls and floor WAS the bedrock. It was so cool to see the drill marks along the walls.
Cottonmouth and Rattlesnake were problematic in basements😂😂
Grandma kept a hoe next to her door going out to the carport. All it took was one rattlesnake sitting just outside her back door ONCE. She murdered that sucker about 77 times, it was well chopped up😉😜.
I remember asking her why she had a hoe next to her back door in the house. She just looked at me with that matter of fact look in her face and said, "here going out to get the paper can be deadly always look before you go out the back door". She was spunky!

It is amazing what lowering the noise floor can do. I recapped a lowly Parasound C/PT-600 and HCA-800ii with Nichicon caps and was amazed at how dark they became. I still love them in my office rig with the LSi7s.
I got a taste of Benchmark with a little DAC-1 that I found in a thrift store. It is my first experience with an external DAC and I am a ture believer now. It is also in my office rig since that is where I listen most. I am not sure how it stacks up to modern external DACs. I'd love to upgrade with the DAC-3 and would also love to try some of their amp offerings but money is the issue. Besides that, I get my jollies out of finding great deals on good stuff; cheap thrills I guess.

There's a set of volterra on ebay for 6500, seems like a decent enough price? I don't follow that model

Yep, the Volterra's are superb ear candy. Willy is getting it done! Congrats.
I want them so bad.. I actually talked to Skip sometime ago about them, just can't let myself do it..
I'd have to sell both Kidneys, a lung and a liver to be able to afford them, but yea, WHY not you only live once....
