Janusch, Man I feel for ya. I too hope e-tool makes good on this. To ship speakers in the condition that was stated..bubble wrap and loose.. is totally unexceptable. At this point I would be reluctant to deal with members that don't have a reputable history on this forum in the selling, buying or trading of gear. Don't mean to offend anyone but this is how I feel. Kind of sad how in the short time I have been a member there have been a few bad dealings that shadow the numerous pleasent deals that have occured.

    Sid,

Put a friggin' lid on it.

If you aren't going to post something REMOTELY on topic, start another thread or zip it.

We've got a brother who is, I fear, getting hosed on a forum deal. Let's try to deal with that in this thread.

I think that is basic common sense. After all, though a Polk Audio forum is at the center of communications, it is nothing but a conduit for communications. Trust shouldn't be given blindly. I am an honest guy, but based on the amount of time I have been here, and the amount of activity I have here, I would be amazed if anyone trusted me to sell them a product that I couldn't extensively document. The only way I would trust a new member of the community for any transaction is if they lived close enough to Phoenix for me to pick up the purchase in person.

There are people, Russman and Har_navalta come immediately to mind, but there are others who classify as well, who have reputations from past transactions that are so stellar, I wouldn't hesistate to send them money for any product even though I haven't been here long enough to know people well.

The key is to use a little common sense in your transactions. In this case, a relatively new and inactive user appears advertising speakers that are NIB. A search at transactions on Ebay shows a user with an identical name just bought the same speakers OPEN BOX from a vendor. Personally, that would make me doubt that the speakers being received were really new, and that one was still sealed. A single blurry picture of one speaker would not be enough to allay my fears.

    Steve,

    Good research!!!

Here is the link to that auction,
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14993&item=3017871485

He paid $810.00 plus shipping, so for $975.00 plus shipping he got all his money back out of it. Personally I think that's a raw deal, especially since they were not NIB as e-tool claims. And this brings up another question, it appears that the seller shipped to e-tool via FedEx, so what's up with that. Was e-tool afraid that it would be obvious that the cartons had been opened before. After looking at his pic again, you can see all the extra packing tape. I think Janusch probably has grounds to file fraud charges in this case if e-tool doesn't man up and refund him the full amount.

I think Janusch probably has grounds to file fraud charges in this case if e-tool doesn't man up and refund him the full amount.

If you look closer at the auction he won, he paid $120 to the seller on Ebay for shipping. I haven't shipped anything via Federal Express or UPS in years, but I would think that sending 2 60 lbs packages would eat up the $45 profit margin. The only question in my mind is whether the damaged speakers were damaged before the transaction was made, or in transit. When you look at the Ebay sellers other transactions, you will see occassional complaints about things like receivers missing volume knobs and the like.

Eulogyt00l left favorable feedback on this transaction, but it is possible that he did so before having a chance to inspect the speakers.

Also, another thing sticks out like a sore thumb. Why did he decide to sell the speakers almost immediately after buying them? In the first post in this thread, he mentions that he decided on getting a different model of speaker immediately after buying these speakers. That just doesn't make sense. Normally people will do some level of research before making a $1,000 purchase. The idea of changing his mind after buying these speakers just doesn't sound legitimate.

Since we know these speakers are open box, I would have to wonder if there is something else that is wrong beyond the aforementioned damage. Though the buyer mentioned they still worked, I would assume that means that they produce sound when attached to a receiver. I doubt he had time to truly test them before posting.

Closed auctions will still be there for a couple months after completion. In this case, simply look for the user id, then look at feedback from completed auctions.

    my specialty,

go to e-bay, click search, click advanced, and check completed items, then type the item.. Ie: speakers or what not,,
Or click search, bidder or seller, type in user id and you can also click completed auctions, auctions bid on by or only ones that were won by said bidder,, same with seller search..

They last for 30 days only.. then gone to the abyss

I think most of are wanting to see how bad the damage is? It's a curiosity thing. NIB speakers should be exactly that, new and no damage whatsoever.

It just that the upper left hand corner of the speaker PIC by E-tool that looks ??? Light playing tricks??
